News Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

For a company that's all about synergy they keep having glaring gaps in the strategy:

  • Get Disney Animation to create a 3D Figment short and attach it to a feature film and then show it in the Mind's Eye Theater
  • And how about an Oswald the Rabbit short, too?
  • And if they must, a Mickey short featuring Duffy? (Duffy 'comes to life' a la Toy Story when Mickey leaves the room)
  • Run The Muppet Show continuously on just about all Disney channels
Don't forget about an EPCOT channel which would be Disney's answer to the Discovery Channel and spread the EPCOT message beyond the borders of the theme park.

What really gets me about this even being a discussion is that haven't some of our insiders been saying that "80s nostalgia" will have some role in Epcot's overhaul? What's more nostalgic about 80s Epcot then Figment and Dreamfinder?

I missed that part of the forum. That could be one of the smartest things Disney did with Epcot. Especially, if it was done right.

The question I have is, Is it 80s Nostalgia as in the park will go back to it's original ideals from the 80s or will it be 80s nostalgia for the sake of 80's Nostalgia. The former would be great, The latter would be regressive.

One problem many are having is acknowledging that the 80's Figment and the Current Figment are two completely different personalities. Not that either are terrible, but, the old Figment was much more lovable then the current one. Although, he is still liked and his retail sales might be impressive considering there is no movie, cartoon or other media exposure, he doesn't, in my opinion, command the same loyalty that he did when they tried to get rid of him before. He will still sell under the nostalgia banner for all of us older folks, however, we are literally a "dying" group. When we are gone I truly think that unless they somehow find a way to make Figment a warm fuzzy again, he will be put out to pasture.

Iger understands product to a fault. He doesn't understand how Figment's sales could be high without a Disney Channel cartoon, a movie franchise, third party licensing deals, and some kind of kid pop star singing Figment's theme song.
Oh please I don't want to hear any Disney star singing One Little Spark!

The entire channel would be a spiritual successor to the original version Disney Channel Show "Imagineer That" with Tom Morrow 2.0 from the 90's before changing it to having Disney Channel stars hosting it.

I was just on Martin's tribute to Space Ship Earth thread and wrote an idea I realized for a new Horizons attraction while I was having a conversation. I'm not sure if anyone else has come up with this idea yet, but here it is:

What would everybody think of the omnimovers being replaced by the much more dynamic and thrilling ride system of Harry Potter's Forbidden Journey?, whenever Space Ship Earth gets it's next (in this case it would a massive) update. The vehicles could of course be built to be more encapsulating and not have guests dangling their feet. Or maybe we should save this idea for Epcot New York? (if it ever gets official support)

Replacing an omnimover system with a series of robot arms would lead to a capacity nosedive and a system as complex and thrilling as a robocoaster does not fit into a slow-paced history lesson about the development of human civilization.

It's like using a chainsaw as a butter knife.

Now that I think of it, your right about not trying to fit it into Space Ship Earth. But another brand new attraction, like "Horizons 2.0" or "New Horizons", could be built to specifically use the robocoaster G2 ride system. It would be awesome because it can programmed to move at a slower speed for viewing the scenes, provide a more engaging perspective, and it can then utilize more thrilling maneuvers with added special effects for scene transitions. About the worries of a history lesson compatibility with, an at certain times, more thrilling ride system, I think your wrong. I watch so many ground breaking informational shows on National Geographic, the Science Channel, the Discovery channel, the History Channel, etc., that are communicating so much extremely important, trans-formative, information for the progress of society, that is delivered in so many times, a very inefficient boring manner. I am not saying that Space Ship Earth is boring, because it is awesome and perfect the way it is. But I am saying that in the case of a new "Xpanding Horizons" attraction (cool attraction name?? maybe a "y" and "z" can be artistically shadowed or somehow placed by the "X" as a reference to the cartesian coordinate system), delivering such important information in a much more exciting format will create a much more popular and effective attraction than a new omnimover attraction.

Anyone else feel like they're taking an eye exam with all the font size changes???

As much as I want to see UoE get an overhaul, GotG definitely shouldn't be it. I finally saw the first one and while fun, I don't really see the need to rush it anywhere into the parks. If it wasn't one of the lone Marvel possibilities for WDW, I don't think it would even be a thought.
