You would assume that Disney already knows how much people love Figment. He his on all their special merch. I thought a while back their was talk of moving Figment into Tomorrowland. I might be making that up. I hope Disney realizes that people enjoy Figment (The character).

He has dominated the merchandise in Epcot for the past 5 years. A huge resurgence has definitely taken place. Hopefully they notice the popularity. Also hasn't it been stated that his plush sells EXTREMELY well?

I just saw this on Twitter and I am shook. They used this same tactic when they closed Pleasure Island.

They REALLY would go through with this AGAIN? I would be horrified.

I think you are right. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney closed Imagination and used Figment to sale retro merch. Then, they could charge more for the product.

They tried to erase him before. They know he sells merch but I don't know what the means for his ride. You'd think a successful comic (that should have been a movie instead of Pete's Dragon) and merchandise would save his ride but I do not trust them when it comes to this ride. I love Inside Out but I do NOT want to see them replace Figment. The Cranium Command theater would have been a fantastic place for Inside Out. I always thought they should have moved the cranium theater to the Magic Eye theater and move them into there. Oh well.

For a company that's all about synergy they keep having glaring gaps in the strategy:

  • Get Disney Animation to create a 3D Figment short and attach it to a feature film and then show it in the Mind's Eye Theater
  • And how about an Oswald the Rabbit short, too?
  • And if they must, a Mickey short featuring Duffy? (Duffy 'comes to life' a la Toy Story when Mickey leaves the room)
  • Run The Muppet Show continuously on just about all Disney channels

I know this isn't the right thread but did you see petes dragon? It was an extremely well done movie probably the best live action movie that they have done. I fail to understand though why they can't do a figment movie because they made petes dragon?

I saw it. It was well done. I just think it wasn't necessary. And it's not that they can't do one because of the other, not how I was trying to phrase it, I just think they could have struck while the comics were selling. Instead of Pete's Dragon they could have done a Figment movie. Not saying it needs to be one or the other though.

I think they still could. I know it is a small population but they are making the Marvel Figment comics. That might be the way to introduce Figment, again.

Figment's sales were high enough to shock Bob Iger. And he's the one that has to hear a Dreamfinder question almost every shareholder's meeting Q/A.

There's gotta be some awareness in the company that Imagination's one of those rides that has potential for multimedia franchising.

It amazes me that product sales can shock the CEO. Does it mean he has little faith in that product? You would think that they would get the hint if people always asked about Figment and the Dreamfinder. In my opinion, it shows that they really don't like the characters.

It shouldn't be a surprise that he's out of touch. I agree it shouldn't have shocked him. But this is a company that has little faith in a lot of the movies they put out and then are shocked they do so well.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't even know they were using Figment to promote specialty items and festivals. However, I guess the CEO of a massive company does not need to know that.

I like in the meetings Q/A when someone asks when they are going to re-release Song Of The South :)

That's why I feel like it keeps being pushed back in terms of project priorities. Don't have to put Inside Out in there if it's faded from the short attention spans of Iger and Chapek. Gives the Imagineers a slightly better chance at pitching the Dreamfinder and Figment reunion that they clearly want to do if there's no IP to compete with.
This is why I suggest WDI hold off on the bulk of this project until Iger and Chapek leave and hopefully their obsession with everything being tied to an IP with them. Assuming that's not too much to hope for.
