Biergarten - yes or no?

Biergarten is my DH favorite place to eat in all of Disney. Then again, he's a huge fan of German food and since it's buffet he loves it. The food is good and the atmosphere is awesome!

Another fan.

We wont be going our next trip, but normaly it is one of our stops.

Be aware you will most likely be seated with other people. For some reason that really irks some people.

We ran into that - were really looking forward to sitting and talking to other Disney fans, but the people DD & I were seated with acted like it was the biggest inconvenience of their lives. Wouldn't even make small talk.

Other than that, we really liked it. Food was good, service was exceptional, and the music was so much fun!

I'm a Pescatarian (I eat seafood but no other meat) and I found things on the buffet that satisfied my appetite. The atmosphere is great, entertainment is fun, and the service is wonderful. My family and I once lived in Germany so we have an affinity for the food and culture. That all being said I say go for it.

We usually go at lunch, and because it's much less crowded than dinner, it's much more likely that you'll have your own table, if that makes a difference to you.
In either case, another thumbs up for Biergarten from me!

I was forced to eat there a few years ago as it was the only restaurant still available when i booked with the Candlelight Processional package. I ended up loving it and would definatley recommend it.

Atmosphere is great, and we had some fun tablemates. All of us were drinking the large mugs of beer.
The food, however, was disapointing. I like German food, but this just seemed average.
To my shock, despite having a great social experience, my wife said upon leaving, "we don't have to go back there for a long time".
She NEVER says that after WDW restaurants.

Love the atmopshere-not crazy about the food(shh, don't let my German relatives know!), but I was the only one in the group who didn't really like it.

A million times yes!!!!!
The food is wonderful and there is SO much to choose from if you don't like everything.
The atmosphere is one of the best I have been to. I absolutely love it in there!!

Not old, just vintage.
On my last trip I ate at Biergarten for the first time in about 15 years. I was pleasantly surprised by how much food there was on the buffet that I really liked. I went in not expecting to find much, but that was not the case. The entertainment is pretty good too. I think it is definitely worth trying it once.

It is always a must do for us. The kids love it as well and the adults in our group. This past trip June 6-13th we had a bad experience, but not with the food or the entertainment. We have never in our 15+ years of dining at the Biergarten have we witnessed such unruly kids. We have always let our girls (now 13 & 8) go down to the stage when the performers call for the children. This trip however, people let their kids roam the dance floor when the performers were not playing. At one point an older CM went to the floor and asked the kids to return to their seats. They did for about 2 minutes. Next thing you know the kids were back in force..two boys, about 10, even tried to climb up on the stage and then started to uncover the handbells and ring them. At this point three female security CM's came running up, escorted the kids off stage, put up ropes to block off the stage and stood there almost daring the kids to try to return! When the performers took the stage they asked everyone to keep 'their little darlings at your own tables, if you don't want them ruining your meal, no one else wants them ruining their meal!' that got a round of applause. The meal was wonderful & the server was attentive. The unruly kids could happen anywhere and we won't let it ruin our opinion of the restaurant.

i seem to be in the minority, not a fan of this place at all

you sit at picnic style tables with people you don't know, nto my kind of thing

we are a couple of two, there was another couple, and a family of four

the family of four downed pitcher after pitcher of beer and got rather loud and obnoxious, the other couple made one trip to the buffet and left, they were there for a total of 20 minutes

we don't drink at all, normally other people drinking around me doesn't bother me much, this family was way out of hand

the server was getting rather confused and actually started charging us for their beer, something that took some time to straighen out

being german, i can say the food is not authentic in any way
don't go if you think you will be actually experiencing german cuisine

the entertainment was fun, that was just about the only thing that was enjoyable

rating wise
food C
entertainment B
service C

Yes for the atmosphere, No for the food

If you're a fan of german cuisine, go right ahead, you'll have a blast

To my taste, the food was quite awful, compared to previous german authentic food i've had

Here's my review from my last trip :

Biergarten (Epcot - Germany Pavilion)

e67oyd.jpg

Atmosphere : 4/5
This is one of the best themed restaurant within the parks. It looks exactly like a pleasant evening in Germany during Oktoberfest. Everything from the surrounding building replicas, to the handrails, the tables, and even the stage look quite authentic. All the waiters are dressed with classic traditional German clothes, which gives this place an enjoyable and authentic feel to it. This is the best place to experience Germany, without actually being anywhere close to Germany. They have a staged show that happens during your meal, which includes a traditional German band singing Oktoberfest party songs and some traditional Polka music. This place is definitely not quiet, actually it gets very loud during peak times, and since it's an open area restaurant, there's absolutely zero privacy. This can be seen as a positive aspect however, since it helps replicate the Oktoberfest experience. Depending on the style of dining you prefer, this can be a hit or miss for you. I enjoyed the experience, but once was enough.

Food Quality : 1/5
I have tasted quite a bit of authentic German food in my life, and I can safely say that (to my taste), this was the worst German food I've ever had. Everything from the sausage, to the meats, and the sauerkraut just tasted very bland and awful. The only two things I actually enjoyed about this buffet we're the much dreaded Disney mac and cheese served at mostly every buffet, along with the sweet Bavarian deserts. We left the place still hungry and slightly disgusted by the overall food quality. I wasn't expecting much from this restaurant, and I wasn't wrong at all.

Service : 4/5
If there's one thing I can say about this place is that the German people working there are quite friendly. Everybody we came in contact with was extremely friendly and nice. The only reason why I'm not giving this restaurant a 5 out of 5 is because it's a buffet with self-service, so we didn't quite get much interaction with our server, even though she was quite charming (looks back... and very cute too!). The people working at the reception desk we're quite nice, and we waited only about 2 minutes until we got lead to our table. The person who led us to our table gave us a small introduction about the ways of German cuisine, and the origins of the food and beer festival known as Oktoberfest. I'm sure this restaurant would benefit from being "A La Carte", because more interaction with the staff would definitely be beneficial.

Variety : 3/5
Let me start by saying that the German authentic food options was sort of lacking. There was maybe 3 choices of sausages, along with 5-6 other options. The rest was all American food, that you would normally find at any Disney buffet. However, one thing that was very good about this buffet was the choice of deserts. If you love sweets, this buffets is gonna win you over. Since my main course was so lacking, I had fun in the desert department. I mixed together a Bavarian chocolate cake, together with a load of vanilla sauce, and I threw a cup of mixed berries on top of that, god it was awesome. Back to subject. the variety of things offered was average, but nothing spectacular. It will give you a good preview of German cuisine, but it definitely isn't a culinary voyage.

Price : 2/5
The only reason I'm giving the price (20$ per person) such a bad rating is because I definitely did not enjoy the food there. It is worth it strictly for the nice Oktoberfest experience, but beyond that I would have definitely preferred spending my money on something else. I would not pay out of pocket for this restaurant, however, being on the dining plan made me feel better about trying new things in Disney.

Overall rating : 2,8/5

Pros/Cons
+ Amazing staff working there
+ Great themed (Oktoberfest) restaurant

- Terrible German food
- The music played during the shows isn't particularly great

Would I eat there again on my next trip ? No, once again I'm not a big buffet fan, but this one was definitely not to my taste as far as food quality goes.

I wouldn't call the food horrible

However

1) Its a buffet. You know that going in, so you know that the food is going to reflect that. There is no way around it. Food held in a steam table is not going to equate to food cooked a la minute.

2) It's American German food. Which again is what one should expect. No Liberkaske, Bloodwurst, Blue trout, or anything in aspic. It is cooked to appeal to the masses. There are many people who want bland food that does not push their taste envelope. This is a WDW restaruant after all.

So, for what it is, I will eat there again, fully knowing what to expect and enjoying it for what it is.
