Beastly Kingdom Discussion

Well, I'm sure TDO has some ideas they're tossing around for potential attractions at AK. Let's face it, EE and KS are the real reason that the park is even a half-day park. Lee, please tell me they've at least been contemplating expansion or an addition or SOMETHING.

Can somebody explain to me why Beastlie is even being discussed?
It's dead and buried. Gonna stay that way, too.

The reason is that YOUR company came up with a BRILLIANT concept that truly touched many of us.

It was creative and would thematically challenge Harry Potter. Many of us have visited HP and left with a "WOW, Disney has a lot of catch up to do to match this."

Unfortunatly, BK is the GREATEST thing that has been leaked to the public. MILF, M:S, Philharmagic, LMA Stunt Show -- NONE of these have been anywhere near what we have been shown as the potential that Imagineering is capable of.

Everest is neatly themed, but it is no better themed than the Asia Quest exhibit here at the Columbus Zoo.

Now FLE looks amazing, but it is a decade late, and helping the healthiest park in the world. Seems very misplaced in priority.

Lee, maybe if your crew had come up with something that put BK to shame, these rumors would die. Or if they finished that park. Fact is, lack of pulling a trigger or developing anything that rivals has led us all to believe that this is the absolute best card Disney has up its sleve. We all would like to let go, but where is the topper? As far as we know, Disney doesn't have one. At all.

Will this new land ever come to fruition? If its scrapped, then why is the dragon on a lot of AK signage? Why is there a Unicorn parking lot?

I personallythink that eliminating Camp Minnie Mickey for this would fix AK's issue with lack of rides and the fantasy of it would certainly go head to head with HP. Of course, this would lead to what we have in MK right now... Eliminating meet and greet lands.

I couldn't agree with you more! When I first heard about Animal Kingdom being built, the part I got excited about was Beastly Kingdom. But, as we all know, it didn't happen. What we got instead was an opulent zoo. Kind of underwhelming if you ask me. As a result, I rarely visit AK. And since the yeti is still not functioning on EE, there's no reason to visit at all IMO. Who wants to go to yet another zoo to watch animals that either hide or turn their backs on you, just like in all the other zoos? Lame.

The sad part is, this is more the rule than the exception. There are a great number of guests that question why the most expensive park at WDW is the most disliked. Don't let attendance fool you. The $12 to go to any zoo in the United Stated (except San Diego) is barely exceeded with the $80+ ticket to AK.

I agree with this too. The FLE sounds great - especially the Dwarf Mine Train - but unfortunately, from what I've seen and read about it so far, nothing in it comes close to challenging the technical and thematic brilliance of Uni's Potter Land. And that's what's needed - Disney needs to truly rise to the challenge. And Beastly Kingdom seems like the answer. I once had hopes that Narnia would be the answer, but...well, we all know what happened with that...

Disney mad Narnia more bloated than it ever deserved to be.

I'm not sure if AK will ever become a true full-day park, because they do have to close early for the animals and such, but you make a point that people don't have to stay from rope drop to the gates closing around sunset because once you've been to AK more than once the animals and zoo-based locations can be passed by, and then its just about getting on the good rides. Like i said before BK would seem repetitive and unfitting (not that chester and hester's isnt) but i kinda wish for TDO, heck all the imagineers around the world to meet together much like they did when everest was built and the stunt show was brought over, get the creative juices flowing, and get a knock-out attraction that isnt a response to universals secret weapon.

The films were kind of a let-down, I'll grant you that. Especially Prince Caspian. The film-makers changed too many things when translating the book into film, and the story suffered big-time. I realize that books always get changed when adapted to film, but it beats me why film producers don't respect prose that's stood the test of time and instead decide to rewrite lines of dialogue from the book so that they sound cheezy in the film. In the case of Narnia, it really ticked me off. If you can't improve upon something, don't mess with it!

AK has plenty to fill a 9am-6pm park day. If you can't do that, then I'm guessing you just don't like what it has to offer. It needs more, definitely, but to say that it is just an overpriced zoo is way off. Plus, my zoo here in MN is $30 to enter, and while I love it, there aren't any rides at all (except a monorail thing that isn't very interesting). The Disney price seems to be in line price wise when considering its offerings compared to a non-theme park/zoo hybrid.

There has to be something we can do to get TDO attention that this park needs something new. I know petition and letter campaigns hardly work but this park has great potential and isn't living up to it!

My guess is it is being discussed because it's an idea that (10 years later) still actually excites a majority of forum members. It was going to be the centerpiece of that park - it would be like Disney building the Magic Kingdom, running out of time/money and then deciding to skip Fantasyland altogether.

There is a Disneyphile list of great white whales - original JII, Lucas Land, original Tiki Room, Indiana Jones Ride, Horizons, Mountain in World Showcase, Beastly Kingdom ... anytime something like FLE is announced and built, it's going to be compared to these ideas and concepts.

The first film was an hour too long. Frankly, I barely remember the second. The third was okay, but paled in comparison to the book. Plus, they worked way too hard on making the Susan conclusion pay off. If you don't get the Susan conclusion without being banged over the head with it, you may not be mature enough for children's stories.
