Base tickets

In the past we have always purchased Park Hopper tickets. This trip (11th) we decided to stick with the base ticket (one day, one park). We noticed on the last trip we ended up staying most of the day at the park we started with, and thought we should give this a try. It saves quite a bit of money for a fanily of 4. Any thoughts on this?

we always go with park hopper options, over the span of a week it may add up but the ability to jump over is worth the cash, at least for me. There are many times where I'll spend all day at MK then hop over to DHS to catch the last show of Fantasmic.

we had AP's one trip and hoppers the other.. we have base tickets now and I want to add hopper if we can swing it when we get there..but with 7 of us that's a huge chunk of change.. decisions decisions..

If you don't use the hopper ability enough to justify spending an extra $200 on tickets why bother?

I like park hopping, but I rarely visit more than two parks a day. I think if you plan ahead well enough to avoid parks that are closing early I think you'll have a good time focusing on one park a day.

I'd agree that it depends on your habits while at WDW.

In our recent trip, with our toddler, the thought of hopping to another park and spending that time in transit facing "I want to ride Dumbo again" while on the way to EPCOT was just not something we wanted to do. We worked 1 park a day very happily and successfully. Until the kids are older, we're most likely 1 park a day people, so going forward I'll be hitting up base tickets.

Pre-kids though, I loved just having the option to jump if the park was too crowded or if I just felt like it, even though I rarely ever hopped, so I always added the park hopper option.

Most likely what will end up happening is that I'll be sticking with base tickets until it's time to join DVC and potentially work with APs, which will be excellent!

We have to hop. It's part of the fun for my family. Deciding in the morning or on the fly what we are going to do that evening. We only do a couple dinner ADR's a trip.

I suppose it depends on how long you are staying.

When we go, it's usually only for three days, so Park Hopping is a must, if we want to see everything we desire.

But I suppose if the trip is to relax, then seeing one park per day, and then spending some time at your hotel or resort sounds like a nice option.

We only do one park a day when it is a trip with our daughter, so no park hoppers on those trips. On trips with just adults, park hoppers are a must.

It does save quite a bit of money not to add the hoppers.
If you have young children you probably aren't taking advantage of evening EMHs. That is when I hop the most.
If you noticed that your family doesn't hop much and you are staying in WDW long enough to see everything you want, then don't add it.

We are hoppes for sure. With the kids old enough to venture on their own its well woth it to us if they dont want to hang with the "Parents". I would agree with the other posts it would depend on your habits...it just leaves your options open for change on any given day!!!

We are rarely in HS or AK a full day and so hopping is necessary.

Yeh you have a point there. AK has always been a 1/2 day park and HS has become that way. Plus we are going in Feb. so I am sure the parks will close earlier. I'm not sure what to do now.

The good news is that you don't have to decide right now. At any time during your trip, you can simply upgrade your tickets by adding the park hopper option, and it will cost EXACTLY the same as if you bought them that way in advance. It is not less expensive to buy a ticket as a park hopper versus buying a base ticket and adding the park hopping option in the middle of your trip.

In other words, keep your base tickets as is, but if during your trip you decide you want to hop, you can add the park hopper option at any ticket booth or at your Disney resort's lobby concierge counter.

We did Hoppers in June and base in Novemeber. I am definitely going with hopper next time. AK never gets me past 3:00 PM and I missed having the option of swinging into whichever park had EMH.

That's a great idea. Thanks

This Thanksgiving was our 3rd year in the row. We go Saturday to Saturday. We always do base tickets. Even in parks that some people may "think" are one day parks (ie. Animal Kingdom), there is more then enough to see and do to keep you busy all day. Between shows, rides, food experiences, etc. We actually do Epcot 2 days (base tickets of course) and Disney Hollywood Studios (again base) and still find there are things we didn't get to see, do or experience. So for us, it's base tickets all the way!

For us, it depends on the length of our trip. If it's a short one like a long weekend, then the hopper is a must to get the most of our time there. If we are staying for a longer time then the non-hopper is fine for us with a little bit of planning.

Graphite,
theofficialticketcenter.com has base tickets really inexpensive, but the biggest savings is a 3 day base with 2 free days! So you can have the days to go to other parks and 1 day to do a return trip to your favorite! the cost is $237.00 each and the price includes taxes!
