Base tickets

I'm the opposite of some of the other posters. I get the park hopper on our longer trips, but not the shorter trips. On our longer trips we are much more likely to want the flexibility of the park hoppers, and are more likely to utilize them enough to justify the extra cost. However, when we are only there for 3 or 4 days, we just do one park a day. On a trip that short, there might only be one time where we would want to go to a different park in the evening....so the extra cost of the hopper is just not worth it, especially since we don't like to do EMH.

We feel that the hopping is not worth it and wastes too much time traveling from park to park(even with our own car). We had them once years ago and found ourselves not really using it. Planning is key to take advantage of EMHs, Special showtimes, etc. And we now have had base tickets for the last 6-7 years (if not more) and have not had a problem of missing things. Granted we usually stay 10 days and and just plan to do everything we want to do in a particular park on that day. We spend 2 days at MK and AK (Our Fav), usually 1 at Epcot and 1 at MGM(yes I called it MGM! :p)

This year we only stayed 5 days and only went 1 day to each AK and MK.

We don't park hop. At all. We do six days. One in each park, the 2 repeats. If by chance on one of our early days (we never seem to get them) we go to DTD, ride the monorail or relax in the resort/swim. Honestly, last trip we didn't have enough time. A park hopper would have made it worse. When you leave one park for another, you are literally burning your money. The travel time you waste is worth more than hopping. You actually end up spending less time in the parks.

Its park hopper for us! if it busy at one park, we can just jump to another, Plus with dining ressies and fireworks, its a must. And the added bonus of wait times for rides on iphone, we can choose which park is less empty.

In the past we have always purchased Park Hopper tickets. This trip (11th) we decided to stick with the base ticket (one day, one park). We noticed on the last trip we ended up staying most of the day at the park we started with, and thought we should give this a try. It saves quite a bit of money for a fanily of 4. Any thoughts on this?
A lot of guests like the park hopper option as it is not much to add it to your ticket and gives the guest more flexibility.

That depends on how your family spends their days at WDW. Alot of families, especially those with young kids, take afternoon breaks at their resort everyday....so they are leaving a park and returning to one later in the day anyway, whether it is the same park or not.

Exactly, there is no "right answer" for everyone. We were totally prepared to do this (leave for naps) this past trip, and had park hoppers, but were able to get our DD to take nice long naps in her stroller every day that allowed us to stay in the same park all day each day. We didn't hop once. Next trip will probably be different! I think I will taking the advice of those above though and buying the base tickets and upgrade on site if our plans change for the next trip.

I plan ahead of time which park we are going to visit each morning/evening based on operating hours, parade/show times, EMH, crowd level predictions, special events, ADR availability, etc... and many times it ends up that the one park will be ideal for us on a morning, but another park is better for that particular evening.

Once I have all of that decided, I take a look at my schedule and see how many times we would need to park hop and then decide if it is worth the extra money, or if I need to rework my schedule to avoid park hoppers. We usually end up park hopping often, but there have been times where just by chance it worked out that we would be in the same parks each day (this usually happens on our shorter trips, like I mentioned in a previous post), so on those trips I obviously opted not to get the park hopper, knowing that if I changed my mind I could add it at any time.

Our last trip was for 2 weeks, with 10 day park hoppers. We go to one park in the morning, and then have the option of visiting another park in the evening for either dinner or EMH. We eat a lot of meals at Epcot, but don't want to spend every day there, so the PH are a big help for us. This past trip, we actually hopped and visited all 4 parks on our last full day, hitting faves at each park!
