Seeing it again tonight at 6:20.

I’ll get my second viewing on Friday, with my sweetie on our anniversary. So I guess I’ll have to curb my “what a man!” moments.

As mentioned in the other thread, I’m on a business trip. He didn’t wait for me and saw the movie on Thursday. I took my rental car from DFW straight to the movie theater on Sunday, so both of us will see it twice, but only once together.

So, very few people in my theater appeared to have bladder control tonight. Lots of moving around + lots of kids (and an infant) talking. After all of the previews, the movie started around 6:35 I think, and didn’t end until after 9:30... which was way past the point of me wanting to yell ‘Stop talking!!!’ across the theater.

I’ll post some actual movie thoughts tomorrow.

I lucked out. Sunday evening show, 8pm start. Nowhere near a packed theater. Some single guys, some families, couple couples. I think I was the only middle-aged lady there on her own.

Aside from a few Thor-related guffaws and other exclamations in about the middle of the movie, it was the quietest MCU showing is ever been to. I have no idea how many of those people were first-time viewers like I was. But I was struck dumb by the last half hour.

Except for the cheer when all the holes started opening up and Avengers coming through.

That said, I did think that the “girl power” moment was a bit over the top or forced.

2nd viewing was even better, especially the final battle. One of my gripes was that it was a bit chaotic but I think that was just the shock/awe of seeing 11 years all built up to 20 mins. With extra viewings it's easier to sit back and pick up the small details. And there are so many! Watching them charge looked like the comic jumped off the page

One thing I don't think gets enough credit is the score -- Marvel isn't known for having the most memorable scores, but Alan Silvestri really nailed this one especially when everyone returns, probably my favorite track in the whole MCU

Great points...

The score is fantastic...I was gonna mention it days ago and I got sidetracked.

Really incredible. They managed to weave emotional toned with FAMILIAR THEMES FOR CHARACTERS ...and it hangs with you?

Where have we scene that before? Let me think about that for a second 😉

If I recall, Evans wants to slow down on acting and focus more on behind the camera. There’s a reason why you really have only seen him in Snowpiercer outside of the MCU.

That’s a bunch of horsecrap...he and Hemsworth were pretty disgruntled on pay a couple years ago...then he spent the last two talking about “moving on”

He’s all in and only holding a pair of 8s...it’s a tactic.

Downey made $50+...he and Hemsworth made $15 and they had to fight for that.
No, he’s not 40 yet. But by the time they could come up with another period Cap movie, he could be. My point was simply that he’s aging (as we all are) and may not want to do more of these.

This, from someone who spent almost every scene he was in being distracted by thinking, “what a man” <swoon>

Do we have to hose you down there, Ginger?? 🚿

I went to Alamo Drafthouse for both showings.

Let’s just say, I struggled through viewing 1.

There’s a very easy way...he stayed back in whatever post-WWII year we last saw him in. They could easily do more period pieces and make movies about whatever adventures Cap had in between he went back and then wound up on that bench.

Problem is, no one is stopping a clock for Chris Evans (really, what a shame!) and at 40, he may not want to do it anymore.
Sounds good to me! I think the real issue is, as you’ve said, that he just may not want to do it anymore. I feel like he could continue playing Captain America for many years to come (if that’s what he wanted to do). He is perfect for the role.. The de-aging tech they have could be used or they could just deep fake him over a different actor when he starts showing his age. Regardless, Chris Evans is the perfect Cap in my book. His leaving the role breaks my heart. I mean it’s not as bad as when Christopher Reeve got hurt and could no longer play Superman, since obviously that was a true human tragedy and not just an actor leaving a role to do something else...but for me he is the embodiment of Captain America in the same way that Christopher Reeve was Superman.

The article indicates that’s when filming begins, not when it’ll be released.

Either way, I doubt the timetable mentioned in that article is accurate. Gunn is writing and directing The Suicide Squad for a 2021 release, so we may be looking at a Vol. 3 release around 2023.

Its entirely possible WB have quietly moved up Suicide Squad. Ive seen some indication filming could begin as soon as september and wrap in december. That leaves Gunn to start Guardians 3 in early 2020 lining up for a summer 2021 release. Gunn will most likely leave suicide squad as soon as he wraps production. He wont be involved in post production. WB will hand it over to someone else.

Not a shot in hell.

Gunn isn’t leaving a film he wrote and directed during postproduction.

You are oddly passionate of incorrect theories regarding Chris Evans’s future.

I have been blaring this track in my car ever since I got out of the theater...the first time lol! (I’ve gone 3 times so far, but will wait awhile to get a really good seat in Dolby to see it one last time.) There hasn’t been such a beautiful superhero score since Hans Zimmer’s TDKR, and even then I think it’s safe to say Endgame has a better score than Zimmer’s masterpiece. In my opinion, of course.

And who could forget Silvestri’s original?

“Totally Fine”, “You Did Good”, and “The Real Hero”, are also some of my favorites in the soundtrack. They’re very soothing, although somber. (“You Did Good” is played during Tony’s death. Most of it is just one note, but it is really powerful in the scene. “Totally Fine” (played after Marvel logo) and “The Real Hero” (Tony’s funeral) have a particular heavenly aura in them that I absolutely love that’s basically the same in both.

The first two times I saw the film the audience was going bonkers! I’ve never been in a movie with such a massive reaction. This is in a relatively small town as well.

  1. Endgame (I’ve considered this long and hard. Does it really deserve the top position in my heart? Yes. Yes, it does.)
  2. Iron Man
  3. Infinity War
  4. Avengers
  5. Winter Soldier
  6. Guardians 1
  7. Black Panther
  8. Iron Man 2
  9. The First Avenger
  10. Civil War
  11. Guardians 2
  12. Ant-Man
  13. Doctor Strange (My opinion of this film has gone down since I first saw it, but it’s still decent.)
  14. Age of Ultron (Gets too much hate IMO. It’s a decent film.)
  15. Homecoming (Keaton did a great job. Tobey is still the Spider-Man I grew up with. I like Holland, but it’s gonna take some time. Plus I feel like the movie’s story could’ve been better.)
  16. Ragnarok
  17. Thor
  18. Dark World
  19. Iron Man 3 (A disappointment.)
  20. Ant-Man 2 (It wasn’t terrible, but it was completely forgettable. Something to do with Hope’s mom? I can’t remember.)
  21. (Haven’t seen) Captain Marvel
  22. (Haven’t seen) Hulk
I haven’t been a big fan of the Thor movies, but I do love the character in IW and Endgame. Might have to rewatch them.

RDJ is getting 75 million for EndGame fyi.

Thanks...he had gotten $50 for infinity war...I couldn’t find a report on endgame...but 75 isn’t surprising at all.

But it proves the point why he, Evans, Hemsworth, Johansson were not given new multipicture deals.

They are drawing a line. For franchise -
Based Disney, that’s a huge deal.

I wonder what tom
Hanks and Tim Allen are cashing these days?

Excellent points...the point about the Nolan Batman trilogy is well taken.

I do love the Wonder Woman score and the signature guitar riff...it works for her portrayal.

But the funeral scene score and cap talking to Sam are just so poignant

If you just listen to the sound - the best music sequences in epic movies IMHO are:
1. From the reveal through the last scene of empire (the “losing a hand” sequence to Luke contacting leia on the falcon...through R2 saving their cans with the driving strings is still so good)
2. Many of the pieces/rehashes in Jedi...sail barge, death of Vader, “into the trap” and akbars line...still lumps my little kid sized throat
3. March from Superman. Best Johnny Williams theme
4. Last of the Mohicans (which makes up half of the backgrounds at wilderness lodge - with field of dreams)
5. The river Phoenix chase to the hat transition in last crusade.
6. The Cairo street chase in raiders
7. Pretty much all of Dark Knight.
8. The “I’m Batman” on the docks to him standing on the tower in Batman Begins...just a beautiful sequence.
9: Jean Grey sacrifice and the professors speech in X2.
10. Braveheart

There are a lot of honorable mentions.

But endgame did music that I thought was right up there and will stick with the audience. I’ve liked all the marvel soundtracks...this one was exceptional.
