Avengers Endgame Spoiler Discussion

In all honesty they could’ve waited for Phase 4 to introduce her and not have her origin in the 90’s. I thought the whole point of that was because she had a good part in Endgame and we needed to see how she started.
I think it would have been better to introduce her in endgame similarly to black panther and spider-man in civil war. That way you weren't expecting the build up her movie teased us. In the end, the way it played out is fine to me, as I didn't want her to have a big part anyway.

It wasn’t about story in my opinion...

It was rushing to get her somewhat “established” under the cover of the recognizable franchise stars.

Seems simple to me.

Thanks...he had gotten $50 for infinity war...I couldn’t find a report on endgame...but 75 isn’t surprising at all.

But it proves the point why he, Evans, Hemsworth, Johansson were not given new multipicture deals.

They are drawing a line. For franchise -
Based Disney, that’s a huge deal.

I wonder what tom
Hanks and Tim Allen are cashing these days?
If Hemsworth wasn’t given a new deal and that Guardians tease leads to nothing I’ll be mad.

There’s a perfect song for them to use in that movie for him too ;)

On the subject of salaries, and I have no idea if this is factually accurate, but it makes sense:

Marvel Film Star Salaries & What Comes Next

Hemsworth signed on originally for a relatively small salary, which makes sense. I don't think he was a big star before Thor, so why wouldn't he seize the opportunity? He needed the MCU more than the MCU needed him.

He subsequently renegotiated for the latest Avengers movies, which included appearing in future films.

I also don't think Marvel/Disney were too concerned about Downey Jr. & Evans salaries getting bigger over time. After 10 years and numerous movies, they were probably happy to pass the torch. I believe that if they wanted to continue their characters, Disney would have no problem paying up.

This isn't like Pirates, where Depp was getting more and more money but the movies were earning less and less. Marvel keeps getting bigger and bigger. Even at $75 million, there is sufficient return on investment for Downey Jr.'s salary.

Chris Evans has struggled with anxiety in the past, and I think he was ready to move on from the role. If Marvel needs to bring him back in future movies, they can probably negotiate with him.

This was Hemsworth's big break. I think Star Trek was his first film (and he dies within like the first ten minutes), but there were two films- The Cabin in the Woods and Red Dawn- that were originally scheduled to come out before Thor, but due to MGM's financial issues, they ended up coming out after Thor, when Hemsworth was suddenly a new star.

RDJ will be fine. He's a major film star now, and can finally have time to finish his Sherlock Holmes trilogy. I'm going to miss Tony, but I have a feeling that whenever Wolverine is introduced, people will flock to him, just like they were crazy about Hugh Jackman's portrayal.

Alright, my thoughts from Viewing #2 (in no particular order, just how I'm thinking about it)
  • Nat has two ironic echoes
    • She's the one who asks about Vormir
    • Also is the last person to speak before the Time Heist: "See you in a minute"
  • Nat's also wearing her arrow necklace that the Russos had her wear in Winter Soldier
  • The music cues... just perfect. The rock songs included between scenes and the orchestrations (Silvestri's best, IMO) meshed really well
  • Movie still has some unfortunate plot holes, and I do think it's an issue if the directors have to explain things after.
    • Examples: Carol not meeting with the Avengers in an early scene and the big question over Steve being in an alternate universe or not with Peggy
    • I honestly wouldn't mind an extended edition of this and Infinity War
  • The 1970s portion for the Time Heist felt long
  • Let's talk Cassie Lang for a minute
    • in Ant-Man and the Wasp, the actress who played her was 9 during production
    • in Endgame, the new actress was 15 or 16 during production
    • 368637
    • Idk where I'm going with this, I just thought the actress looked older than 14/15 (but I don't hang around teenagers, so I'm probably wrong)
  • Still a fan of Thor's battle look
    • could have done without half of the fat jokes though, they started to feel forced
  • Tom Holland did so much with the little screentime he had. He is so, so talented.
  • I do think it would have been better to introduce Carol earlier in the series, instead of the movie right before Endgame
  • Cap wielding Mjolnir was probably the scene that got the loudest reaction in my theater
  • There was a hailstorm that happened during the movie, right when Tony was dying, so that made things super dramatic

Wonder what this means for a renewal of the spider-man deal. Hopefully they signed something before she left.

Even if it wasn’t this will only make things easier. One of the YouTube channels I follow once did a lot on Sony pictures and this woman was behind practically every bad decision they made over the past decade.

The fact she’s now gone should be celebrated.

That’s a relief to hear. I hope you’re right!

I wouldn't expect anything to change in the near future with Spider-Man, unless of course Sony decides to sell its interest in either their studio or Spider-Man.

At Universal I could see her trying to revive a Hulk standalone film series, which I assume Feige would be ok with as long as it stays in the MCU and Ruffalo stars...

Apparently shes still overseeing spider-man films. per deadline.

Everyone at Sony Pictures, myself first among us, loves Amy. We are profoundly grateful for all her immeasurable contributions, both current and past, to our success. And the great news for us is that our partnership will continue for many years to come with her ongoing work on Spider-Man and other key titles. We are very happy for her.

I can't imagine a scenario where Sony doesn't want their Spider-Man to be a part of the MCU.

They benefit from being part of the "must see" Marvel series of films. Also, as I understand it they share less (or even none) of the Spider-Man movies box office with Disney as part of the deal.

Who would look at the MCU and say, nah, don't want to be a part of that?

Sony with Venom and Carnage. They should be Spider-Man villains not solo.

To be fair the MCU would have been fine without the spider-man deal its not like the MCU gained a whole lot from it. At the time the Spider-Man deal was made. Black Panther and Doctor Strange were about to make their debuts. Sure its cool to see the web-slinger in the MCU but it really does feel rushed to a certain degree. Can you tell me with 100% certainty that Feige would have really rushed Spider-Man into Civil War had he had the full rights? Probably not. We still dont have access to a lot of spider-man biggest villains.(Venom,Osborn) etc. Take spider-man out of the MCU and Civil War, Infinity War and End Game don't really change. Other than losing a certain scene at the end of Infinity War.
