Avengers Endgame Spoiler Discussion

To be fair the MCU would have been fine without the spider-man deal its not like the MCU gained a whole lot from it. At the time the Spider-Man deal was made. Black Panther and Doctor Strange were about to make their debuts. Sure its cool to see the web-slinger in the MCU but it really does feel rushed to a certain degree. Can you tell me with 100% certainty that Feige would have really rushed Spider-Man into Civil War had he had the full rights? Probably not. We still dont have access to a lot of spider-man biggest villains.(Venom,Osborn) etc. Take spider-man out of the MCU and Civil War, Infinity War and End Game don't really change. Other than losing a certain scene at the end of Infinity War.

I imagine if they had the rights, Spider-Man would have been a part of the MCU from the beginning. He was their most recognizable character.

Far more likely they'd have used him as the central character over Iron Man.

Actually I disagree, one of the biggest motivators in Endgame for Tony was losing his protege. Without Peter a lot of the emotional aspect of Tony would have changed.

Ive seen some theories suggest If they had Spider-Man their might not even be an MCU they might have just gone the Sony route and done multiple trilogies. Marvel not having their heavy hitters forced them to be unique and creative and try something different. If they had x-men, FF and Spider-Man at the start I wouldn't blame them if they just did individual trilogies of each. without a joint universe. Like old superhero movies of 2002-2008. X-Men, Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight etc.

Spider-Man has always been my favorite comic book character. I love that he is in the MCU movies and Tom is absolutely PERFECT for the role. Yes, I’d prefer it if Disney had full rights to him, but I’ll take what I can get. But I would support Disney buying Sony just to get Spidey...no matter how dumb that deal would be. Lol!

That’s a possibility I hadn’t considered before. If that’s how we got the MCU in present form, then I’m grateful.

This is why I cant wait to see Feige take his time with x-men and FF now that they own them 100% and aren't tied down by a strict contract to get a movie out every 24 months. FF and X-Men are gonna feel so much different compared to spider-man when Feige isn't on a strict schedule.

I think both Marvel and Sony benefit from this deal. The addition of Spider-Man added depth to Iron Man's character and was the genesis of his guilt in Infinity War and eventual resolution in Endgame. And it didn't feel rushed to me. He debuted in the same film as Black Panther and then had a solo film which picked up right after Civil War and now a sequel that picks up right after Endgame.

Also in regards to the villains it's been said that a goal is to do villains we haven't seen before in film.

I can't imagine a scenario where Sony doesn't want their Spider-Man to be a part of the MCU.

They benefit from being part of the "must see" Marvel series of films. Also, as I understand it they share less (or even none) of the Spider-Man movies box office with Disney as part of the deal.

Who would look at the MCU and say, nah, don't want to be a part of that?
I don't see a reason Sony would keep spider-man from the mcu for the simple fact that if they pull him from it, they have to make a new movie. And a 4th reboot would be the nail in the coffin for Sony with spider-man. I see no scenario that fans embrace spidey if sony pulls him from the mcu.

Yeah man, I can’t wait till he gets his hands on those properties. It’s about time we got a decent FF movie!

Also regarding box office share. Just in case people forgot or dont know. Sony gets nothing from the Avengers and team up movies featuring spider-man but get 100% box office of Spider-Man standalone movies while Marvel/Disney get nothing from the standalone movies.

Parker was a big part of Tony Stark's later evolution... including key conflict points for his character in infinity war and endgame. He would have been flatter and more boring without Parker.

Feige would’ve introduced him Phase 1 most likely if he had the rights.

It’s freaking Spider-Man.

Feige was part of those early 2000’s movies and even back then he wanted to do a connected universe but they wouldn’t let him.

I’m thrilled Disney doesn’t have the Spider-Man rights.

We wouldn’t have Spiderverse, which is far and away, without peer, the best Spider-Man film.
