We got Alien Enounter which was like an alien attraction, the original commercials made it LOOK like it was the real "Alien" from the movie(s)

And I rode it. Many many times.
It was nothing like Nostromo was supposed to be. Think Indy/Dinosaur ride vehicles with Space Ranger Spin interactive light guns.
So in other words, THIS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNdiTmYlbEc but much faster, darker, and deadly serious.
It would have been the best ride of all time.
Parents would have hated it.

Over-rated anyways, the hype will die down sooner than later. There have been some innovative things to come out because of Avatar, but it will not be a timeless classic.

Watching the movie, I couldnt help but think about Journey to the center of the earth and the 20,000 leagues ride at TDS. Both have a kind of weird bioluminescent scene with freaky characters, see here:

I can see Universal announcing this as an attraction for USF World Expo in 5,4,3,2...

I see conflicting words in the same sentence!

And LotR overrated?

They don't conflict. The movie is formulaic. My opinion is that it is a boring film (not a result of it being formulaic).

LotR was completely overrated. Those movies were obscenely longer than necessary, and even more boring than Avatar is.

I disagree with LotR being overrated. I read the books AFTER seeing the movies and was disappointed that they actually left OUT scenes from the book. But I can understand someone thinking the films were boring as far as the formula goes. Story, story, story, big epic battle... repeat two more times. But they are really entertaining films to me and brought the books to the big screen better than almost any book-to-movie franchise out there. Avatar was entertaining to me as well, but I still can't believe it's made more money than Titanic and it's STILL GOING! And there are groups of people after seeing it that are depressed because our world isn't that beautiful? Seriously? I fear for future generations if we're getting depressed about a fictitious planet being better than Earth. Sheesh... if that's the case, shouldn't we have all been in depression when LotR came out? And those places are REAL! (New Zealand) :brick:

So who do you guys think is going get the rights to the inevitable Avatar ride Disney or Universal???? I know that Universal has Cameron's Terminator but who knows disney might pull something crazy!

So where do you guys think you will most likely see an avatar ride, Disney or Universal?

(I vote for disney!!!):drevil:

I think a ride would be a bad idea personally. The technology used was amazing but the story sucked. Sorry

You know what other movie franchise took an archetypal story structure and turned it into something special?

Star Wars.

People are too jaded about movies nowadays.

IMO Avatar was one of the best films ever made.

Anyways, they should just make an Avatar theme park.

The Hometree could substitute for DAK's Tree of Life.

I'd rather the other Avatar gets the dark ride it deserves. Seriously, the Nick parks are really mediocre at theming stuff. All Aang got was a halfpipe coaster.

...and Spongebob got a freaking Eurofighter! (albeit a very short one).
So unfair.

If Disney could get the rights to it... I could see it as a replacement for the "beastly kingdom" in Animal Kingdom... have a whole "Pandora" section with animatronic flora, a skeleton of one of the hammerhead rhinos and maybe a "soarin'" type ride over pandora in Michelle Rodriguez' chopper, narrated by either Sigorney Weaver or Rodriguez herself.
