AVATAR land - the specifics

It should be interesting to see what happens now that the movies are backed up. I agree they have total access to the construction site, so you'd think this could be done by the end of next year.... But this is Disney. Hopefully I'll get some updates soon. It's been too long for me!

And @Scuttle, I don't see you posing aerials anymore. Do you still do that?

If the ride system is as massive as anticipated, would it be plausible to expect that to start showing up before the building is closed in? I mean, we could have a really good understanding of the basic system way before any real details are officially given out. Am I correct on that assumption?

I haven't in quite some time, but I'll take a leisure flight over DAK soon. I'll really try to get some zoomed in photos so we can try and see what's what in detail. Hopefully I'll go within a month or two.

Any chance you could snap some photos of the new Harambe Marketplace area? I am curious to see the progress on that one. Actually, the way that DAK is going right now you could almost take a picture anywhere above the park and capture some type of construction going on. The irony is the one place most people would probably like to see new construction (or destruction of some existing offerings) is the one place where there isn't much going on - Dinoland.

the nearmap site has close high res aerials from dec 15th of all of animal kingdom including the harambe marketplace and many other parks across the u.s. like the kongstruction at ioa

heck the picture quality is good enough you can clearly see dinoland is still there and as awful as ever :p

Great tip, thanks.

Edit: interesting land clearing going on east of Rafiki's railroad.

Edit2: Also interesting how the resolution is naught at the location of the Poly Bungalows. Just bad luck I guess.

Great site, I didn't know about this one. You can also see the work beginning on Soarin' and the dumpsters for the Norway work.

Yeah, that land clearing is interesting. Google maps doesn't show it and thier images were taken right around the time that work on the new Lion King theatre was being completed. There is also a lot of other new stuff backstage in that area.

That is a nice site!

I noticed that land clearing also. Not that I think it is anything significant, just wondering what it is for.

I'll start the insane rumor now: They'll install the ride system before enclosing the building, at which point it will be completely unserviceable. If the ride mechanism breaks down, they'd have to tear down the floating mountains to fix it!

Darned Rohde, ya gone and done it again!

I marked the area on the Google Maps image where the clearing is happening. Maybe this is going to be used for the "canopy mockups" that the recent permit was for.

I would hope for either Beastly Kingdom (longshot, I know), Australia, or some kind of Fantasyland for movies like Lion King, Jungle Book, Bambi, etc.

I've long supported the idea of a FL-like "Critter Country" for the animated IP that centers on animals (e.g. Bambi, 101 Dalmatians, Lady & the Tramp, Aristocats, The Rescuers, even stuff like Tarzan and Pocahontas).

That said, outside of the long rumored idea of Australia -- which I think will someday go in the large undeveloped plot between Asia and Africa -- another relatively easy idea would be a Mysterious Island copy. Even if it were not done on the same scale as TDS, it would be a huge addition with JTTCOTE and the subs. They could re-calibrate it to be more in line with DAK as well (someone mentioned they were going to replace the lava monster of JTTCOTE with a dragon). I bring it up because MI was at one time in an advanced stage of planning for DAK; easy to dust off old blueprints.
