AVATAR land - the specifics

Should we be worried about the ride opening timeline what with the FoP theaters being temperamental? Gremlins and such. I didn't think anything of it a few weeks ago but it does seem like they're still having issues and I've noticed a lack of Pandora TV spots with specific mentions of an opening date; although that could just be in my area. Are they still doing the TV ads?

I keep reading that there are presumed issues because they only have 1 or two theaters going but with the limited amount of guests getting entry it seems unnecessary to have all 4 going. Does anyone have confirmation that there are issues with running all 4 screens?

Also, I saw some mention that they felt the land was smaller than they expected. But I believe I read somewhere that the area wasn't fully opened to guests yet and only a portion was. What is accurate?

As far as I know, the only area that isn't open yet is the bridge from Africa, and I doubt there's that much extra space around it.

I would say what makes the area seem small is that lack of things to do. There's plenty to see and little nooks and crannies to find. Just not much in the way of interactive experiences that really fill out say Diagon Alley.

I talked to a CM in the FOP line yesterday and he told me they have not been up to full capacity with all four theatres going yet due to technical issues. That should be very concerning. They are normally running one or two theatres at most. The grouping of guests is taking a loooong time too. I think every seat needs to be filled so they are frequently running up and down the lines asking for groups of 1 2 or 3.

Im of the understanding that the single rider line hasn't been used yet so once they open that it should fix the issue of having to run up and down the line. If you need two seats filled, just grab two single riders.

At OU members have reported riding in Theaters B, C, and D, for what it's worth.

For those interested in all the "specifics," here's a very thorough 360° video that shows the exit steps from C3! Riders exiting from this level of this theater need to descend two flights of stairs to exit on the first boarding level, which is actually the third floor in the building.

Though we haven't seen footage of it yet, according to other references, riders exiting from all levels of the non-ADA theaters (A and B) have to descend an extra whole flight of stairs down to the building's second level, where a long exit corridor returns them to the front. At 18:00 in the video, you can see where that exit hall spills out one floor below and to the left of the videographer.

At load they specifically ask for no photography of any kind.

I was surprised that someone did so, and it's up on Youtube.
Just to be clear on this...Robb Alvey (Theme Park Review) has always stated that he never photographs or records anything without permission. In the description of this video he says that was cleared by the manager to record, so long as the camera was chest or wrist mounted. Alvey has done some things that have bugged me (promoting investment in the Orlando Polarcoaster, for one thing), but he's never disobeyed park rules to get footage, to my knowledge.

This isn't a stab at *you* - but -

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Come on. Sneaking cameras onto rides without park permission to monetize the footage on his YouTube channel is what Alvey DOES. It's what he's ALWAYS done.

Ask SeaWorld -- who had to go to the expense of printing up a slew of new signs after day one of Mako soft opening SPECIFICALLY because Alvey snuck a camera on without permission. He swears he "had permission" for that too - yet sent a nasty email to the park threatening that none of his minions will ever visit again if they reprimand him. He was even classy enough to include the "I defended you during Blackfish" comment to imply he was entitled to do as he wished.

Ask Cedar Point, who "allegedly" (in quotes to protect WDW Magic, but not really so "alleged") revoked his AP and banned him for a period of time after sneaking a camera onto Top Thrill Dragster.

Honestly, I could go on and on here - but it's easy enough to google and I have an Avatar preview to get to.

You seem angry :). Look, I only know that the guy has a disclaimer in the description of the video that says Alvey asked the ride manager who said that GoPro chest mounts, among other things, were okay (and not just for Alvey, but for anyone). If you claim information that suggests Alvey is lying about this and other ride videos, I really have no way to judge between you.

As I said before, I have my reservations about Alvey (and rarely watch his videos anymore, if only because I miss the lift hills, and no, I'm not joking). But I just don't have any reason to think he made up the story.

That said, the video from inside the locker is suspicious--by definition he didn't clear that beforehand, and I have to wonder how accidental it really was.

Well, they ran them nationally with the season finale of "Once Upon a Time" last night with the date, so I think they are still in full swing.

They talked about interactive stuff in the land. I know that the big plant at the entrance spits out water/mist if you touch it and I had thought there may be other things that they'd have. Has anyone who has been there noted things for guests to activate somehow?

Then again, it's possible that some of the "interactive" stuff might be things that are lit and only running at night, so they just might not be available yet. I don't think we've ever gotten confirmation of the existence of the path that lights up when you step on it.

Which, in an adult humor way, tickles me to no end, LOL. Especially since the "mist" is meant to be "spores", that must be gently massaged out of the sensitive area of the...plant. ;)
