AVATAR land - the specifics

I don't get why that place is so packed to the gills all of the time
Because the other restaurants are always full to the seams?
No seriously. Have you been to Columbia Harbour House during high season? or Tony's or any table set?
It gets worse when WDW suddenly decide to shutter Tortuga's and Peco's.
Speaking of random burgers. No idea why always the food at Ray's feel like they have had re-heated few times. The burgers are extremely dry and the patties tasted like frozen the 2 times I went there. I said NEVER after that.
Funnily we didn't had much faith in Peco's and the hotdog stand infront of it. And they were waaaay better.
Haven't had a bad meal at Columbia's Harbour House too.

I enjoy eating at the Animal Kingdom more than any of the other three parks, actually. I think Harambe Market, Yak and Yeti and Flame Tree BBQ are all solid. I'm looking forward to trying Tiffins later this year as well.

IMO, the Chicken Tikka Masala at Yak and Yeti is the best entree in any of the four parks.
I always try to have at least one entree at Yak and Yeti. I always like the stuff there.
Still wishing they could fix their purification systems. The taste of Chlorine is overpowering compared to other restaurants.

irony..

anyway.. regarding comfort food.. WDW hardly has any of that "level" you speak for.
WDW is filled with subpar below McDonalds burgers for example.

Irony x 2.. "high end.. do not flaunt"..

After trying Universal's "quick food" service (like hotdogs, burgers and street stuff). I have to say indeed. WDW seems very superior to UNI in this aspect, havent tried other parks.
But higher food.. I dont know. I tried a few and some at UNI were very good. But my best was definitively on WDW's California Grill

LOL I did not say flaunt Academic Capital. Once you join the 2 percent, let me know :)

As for disney burgers, chicken, and dogs, they are all delicious to me. Sorry, I do not go to disney to pay $50 for a steak. I can go to golden corral for that lol

The problem with cosmic is that they produce so much food fast, they focus more on quantity than quality. I get upset when I get 2 chicken breast nuggets with fries and other people have a ton of fries and i get a little scoop.

Universal does have the better pizza though.
Should try the pizzas next time I'm there. Any specific area?
Last time I was there as shaperone to my niece's birthday present (I gave her an all paid trip to both WDW and UNI). And she was all there for Harry Potter. So I didnt try much food outside the themed food at UNI's HP (both sides) and some of the outer ring restaurants in IOA and City Walk.

While the menu is a fusion, I'd argue the very dominant influence is Chinese. This doesn't seem very Na'Vi to me at all. What would fit better? I'm no cook, but as I said, the characters in the films are a collection of Native American stereotypes so that might have been the way to go.

I think this is a symptom of trying to create a complex, immersive, Potter-style land around a very simplistic and underdeveloped franchise. Any choice will seem a bit forced. What's more, Potter is essentially a fantasy of consumption - a large part of many of the stories features the characters buying things in stores, and at school their identities are largely expressed via clothing, wands, and other consumer goods. Avatar is almost anti-consumption, celebrating a simplified stereotype of communal "Native American" living.
Once again, while there are some Asian influences, the menu is not "dominated" by "Chinese" flavors. In fact, I see a a diverse array of ethnic ingredients and flavors from Native Americans, Latin America, Europe and even the Middle East. This makes sense since the Na'vi's culture is a composite of many different indigenous populations (not just Native Americans).

What I'm cautiously optimistic about is the focus seems to be on fresh, "earthy" ingredients, which also makes sense with the Na'vi being hunter-gatherers. I'm not aware of many of these items being available pre-made from food service vendors, so I'm expecting it all to be fairly high quality.
