AVATAR land - the specifics

While I was fully expecting a full pan-Asian menu (since that seems to be the go-to flavor pallette on-property recently, especially Asian-style slaws), to be honest, there are only a few items (tofu, bao pods, fore-mentioned veggie slaw) that are overtly Asain.

The three sauces available in the bowls (chimmicuri, black bean vinaigrette, creamy herb dressing) certainly aren't, nor is the potato hash.

While the menu is a fusion, I'd argue the very dominant influence is Chinese. This doesn't seem very Na'Vi to me at all. What would fit better? I'm no cook, but as I said, the characters in the films are a collection of Native American stereotypes so that might have been the way to go.

I think this is a symptom of trying to create a complex, immersive, Potter-style land around a very simplistic and underdeveloped franchise. Any choice will seem a bit forced. What's more, Potter is essentially a fantasy of consumption - a large part of many of the stories features the characters buying things in stores, and at school their identities are largely expressed via clothing, wands, and other consumer goods. Avatar is almost anti-consumption, celebrating a simplified stereotype of communal "Native American" living.

Absolutely comfort food. No need to feel sorry for me. I love Disney comfort food. I love ohana, boma. But my food likes are very specific.

No offense, but your food tastes sound very mediocre and pedestrian at best. People like you are why WDW serves crap quick serve while people with actual taste out at Disneyland, who demand better quality, get good unique items at each quick serve. Burgers, chickens, fries??? Just go to Mcdonalds if that's what you want.

Hey, hey, hey. First, quality has nothing to do with it. Burgers and fries can be high quality or they can be low quality, just like anything else. And there's no more value in liking "classy" foods rather then "pedestrian" fare - let's not go trying to flaunt our cultural capital on a theme park board.

All that said, I still don't think the food in Pandora looks very good, regardless of how unusual it is (and is a burger in a bao that unusual, really?). It also doesn't seem thematically consistent.

You're missing the point.

Yes, the food at DLR is sooooo much better, both table service and Quick serve, it puts WDW food to shame.

I do not think you want to come for me. First of all, have you been to Disneyland. Have you had their burgers in tomorrowland? Terrible! With that said, Disneyland has delicious food at The Plaza and numerous other places. And obviously you have no idea what social and cultural capital is. WDW has some the most expensive burgers in a theme park. $20 or more on the high end. You do realize, people like me go on vacation to have comfort food. No I do not want expensive nasty food; however, that is my taste. I am never one to spend more than $50 for a meal (the most I will go is that with Ohana or Boma). I strongly suggest you look up the definition of social capital and cultural capital. I am on the high end of both but do not flaunt either nor do I fit into that stereotypical category.

Exactly.

Nah, I think I got the point. You want to blame Disney4life and his brethren for the lack of options instead of pointing the finger at WDW management. Look, if the Pandora fare is as underwhelming as it looks, people won't eat it and it will be changed into more standard stuff pretty quickly... and that'll be WDW's fault for a lot of reasons.

First, you are debating food that hasn't been tasted. Come on now.

Secondly the sickness at WDW is homogeny. Burger burger burger. Fries fries fries. Coke coke coke. Now it's becoming Starbucks...

Live a little... there is more to life than a slab of meat and deep fried foods.

Exactly.

I've been to DL probably 100 times. Safe to say I've got a handle on which park has better food. It's not even a debate.

I'm not the one who doesn't like unusual food. I just think Pandora's looks unappealing.

I actually think there is an increasing diversity of quick service items available at WDW.

No, it is a debate, because it's based on opinion. If we're waggling credentials, I've been to WDW "probably 100" times.

Anyway, let folks have their tastes and opinions. You like DL food better. All well and good.

And don't try to be a condescending food snob on a theme park message board.

i think DAK does a pretty good job of diversity of food as well as appealing to people who dont like to venture out too far

i deal with this with my wife and daughter (which is the reason they wont try Tiffins)
