AVATAR land - the specifics

Very exciting - what I can't seem to tell by Flight of Passage is if you're going to be elevated above ground (like Soarin) or if you're simply in front of a simulator screen (Mission Space & Star Tours). I'm hoping for the former; I love the feeling of being suspended.

I think the seats will move forward a bit so that you will be surrounded by the screen...also underneath you... (at least that's also what I hope)

It would be amazing if this chair was attached to a Kuka arm that pushed down through a hole into a sphere that played the video all around you. It would be like Soarin' but better.

Just to adress a thing or two...
In FoP, the door will lift ala traditional garage, and put you forward and out into the screen.

While it may seem like a bit of a let down, they had a banshee design early on (not leaked) that was most practical, but would have raised many issues. Joe also didn't like the idea of straight up riding one since it is AK. You ride on a Jeep on Kilamanjaro, not an elephant.

Don't worry about the FoP queue being too mechanical, as you saw the transition point in the GMA video.

On Na'Vi there is only one true AA, but lots of moving parts, like mechanical figures, and limited motion ones.

The way they use foliage, when entering from Discovery Island, will make for a grand reveal.

Thank you for clarifying. To me, FoP sounds like a more glorified version of Star Tours. Unfortunately, I am going in with low expectations, but hope to be pleasantly surprised.

That said, Na'Vi looks high-caliber.

They mentioned virtual reality in the video. Are the glasses for more than 3D or how is this experience virtual reality?

I guess I'm curious as to why y'all want to know so much about this long before you ever get to ride it? What is the fascination with knowing all the behind the scenes details beforehand? I just don't get it. Why not just wait until you experience it first hand on your own? Whatever happened to that? Guess we're just old school in that way. We never view any videos prior to riding it ourselves, as to us, that would take away a lot from the ride when we did get to experience it. JMHO anyway.

I suppose this is a more philosophical question. Some people like to be "in the know" as things progress and more details are provided. Others like to be surprised. Two different mentalities, and purely personal preference, I suppose.

For me, I'm not going to get to see it until next year. I also of the belief that a video doesn't give you the true feeling or experience and I'm not going to get that until I physically experience it.

That was really my point. Seeing a video is obviously nothing like the real thing, but people seem to make up their minds about how good or bad an attraction/area is based on nothing but videos. Seems disingenuous to me is all.

I liken it to a trailer for a new movie. When you see a movie trailer, you get a preliminary understanding whether you think the film is something you'd think you would like or not like. I agree with your point though - you can't always judge something based on a preview. Sometimes your initial reaction may be right, but you won't know until you experience it.

Are you talking about when she's dancing like a robot? You can see they have a thermal camera or similar setup overlaying video to give the live video effect of making some avatar in that portion of the queue.

Yes many did especially when the CEO states you'll fly on the back of a banshee. Not to mention the actual pictures of a ride vehicle of that nature being tested from the site that shall not be named.
From the perspective of the ride, you will be on the back of an actual banshee.
I never believed that we would be sitting on a skinned animatronic banshee.
For reasons of durability alone, it would make no sense. As for that image, is their any actual proof of what it is?
Anyway, I'm quite confident that once one is on this ride and it begins, that we will feel like we are on the back of a banshee at least much as Soarin' makes us feel like we are on a hang glider, much more so really.

No she said when she got on the ride it's a virtual reality experience. I was just wondering if it is or not.
