AVATAR land - the specifics

Flight of passage actually.

Looks stellar!

I think we can finally expect *something* for Epcot in 2020ish timeframe. Unfortunately, it is getting a semi-substantial investment this year, but misdirected.

When it does happen, I imagine it will come out of the blue. A bit like Test Track 2.0. Unfortunately I think it will continue to be quite piece-meal rather than a concerted DCA/DHS like redo.

Contrary to what we see, there are folks in the halls of WDI desperate to fix up Epcot.

The investment you are talking about, does it relate to a specific attraction or possibly a World Showcase film upgrade?

"The land will take on new life after-dark, with the landscape glowing and responding to touch. Even the ground you walk on will glow beneath your feet."

Is it to be expected that the entire path system will be Bio-luminescent? This seems very impractical and expensive. I am thinking this will be more limited to queue spaces or select trails. Thoughts?

Don't get me wrong, I am excited to see Pandora come to life, but I just am not that impressed with these photos of the bioluminescent plants. Kinda looks like plants with black lights on them. I hope it is better in person, and that my shoe laces and white t-shirt doesn't glow when I walk past.

SO on jim hills podcast he said he has a friend who did a walk through of Pandora. Basically said the friend doesnt like avatar but said they would go today because its the best work disney has ever done
A toast to James Cameron. Without his infamous drive for perfection Disney probably would've halfassed the crap out of this expansion.

Illuminated Concrete. Great Idea!
Disney can't even change the lightbulbs that are at arms length, and now we will have burnt out bulbs encased in concrete for eternity.
unless they are Gel based touchpads. aka theres black light in the borders of the pathways and once the "darker" gel gets pressed, it hits the light rays.. thus illuminating the area.

Not too surprisingly, there seem to be a lot of parallels to the Mushroom Forest scene in Journey to the Center of the Earth at TDS.

In person, it's pretty clear that those effects are mostly just black lights, but it does look very cool. It's definitely one of those memorable "wow" moments from the ride, so there's a lot of potential for a large environment like it

If these plants are going to be outdoors, I'll be curious to see how these plants look during the day, when they really can't control the show lighting. It will also be interesting to see how they look up close, since the scene in JTTCOTE is quick enough that you don't really get a chance to take in the details
