AVATAR land - the specifics

I'm gonna be pretty disappointed if it turns out to be that similar to soarin. I really don't understand why people enjoy it? You literally just sit there in front of a Tv screen watching 5 second clips of landscapes. Disney said this would be far more thrilling with a different experience that would make you feel like you are actually flying. Soarin is no more a ride than the 360 films at Epcot

Thanks for this. I know we're in the minority (given the lines for Soarin' every day) but I'm totally with you. I like the ride, but I just don't see why it's such a big deal. Sitting close to a large HDTV would give the same sensation. I do like how they engage your other senses, the smell or oranges and the breeze blowing through your hair. Do more of that, with a digital HD projection, and it would be improved but I still wouldn't really judge it as a premier attraction. (And again, given the lines I guess I'm wrong about that.)

Do we have any info on what the ride vehicle of this is going to be? Are we actually going to be on a banshee, or will it be more like the soaring seating?

I just hope it is not too immersive so that those of us who suffer from motion sickness would not be able to enjoy it. I'm always bummed with the family goes on Star Tours, and I cannot... :(:depressed:

I have a feeling this ride is going to go for a very high level of immersion so it may turn out to be a problem for you. The boat rides sounds like it's going to be the more sedate ride appropriate for everyone.

I don't find that immersiveness (immersion?) necessarily equates to motion sickness. The ride in Central Florida that makes me feel the worst is The Simpson's Ride...not Mission Space, Star Tours, Forbidden Journey, or Tower of Terror, etc.

hu, did you even ride the same ride?
does your couch imitate the swinging movements of speeding or falling like soaring? :hilarious:

Most of you are thinking too narrow when it comes to Flight of Passage. Put anything you know from Soarin' out of your minds. This thing is going to be incredible from all i've heard.
so. if you're wrong.. who do we punch? :hilarious:

imho.. projector/screen desync, and dirty screens are the worst part of these kind of attractions.
If they can be kept in excellent shape.. I dont think anyone will have issues with getting dizzy.

I can LEAN!

jk... as I said, I'm not a hater. I actually like the attraction. I just don't see it as a huge breakthrough. It's a nice, fun ride and something the whole family can enjoy together. But I wouldn't want to wait more than 30 minutes to experience it. I'll use a FP since there are few other attractions remaining in Epcot that justify it. As others have said, hopefully the Pandora ride takes Soarin' to an entirely new level - then we'll all be happy. :)

If you don't consider Soarin a breakthrough then you must not understand the technology behind it.

I thought it was stated awhile back that you would be able to feel the movement of the banshee breathing while you ride. Which is interesting to see how the ride vehicles look. I'm surprised no information has leaked about the ride system. Is it a Disney original?

We haven't actually seen how the ride vehicles look yet ;)

The ride will have similarities to Soarin', yes, but sort of imagine the flight simulation of Soarin' mixed with the immersiveness of Forbidden Journey (or so it's been described that way to me).

HP has nothing on this. I seriously dont think its even a fair comparison. this is avatar, not harry potter.
...I don't believe I ever said or insinuated that it was.

I was simply saying that this ride isn't going to be Soarin with an Avatar theme. Or it's not going to be like SDMT where it's a pretty safe bet. It's Disney stepping out of their comfort zone a bit.
