AVATAR land construction progress

April 22 was everyone's guess. That's close too.

This neighborhood makes a lot of sense. It is after spring break. So, the land will not
be absolutely crushed on open. They already have crowd issues and this would just
turn it into a madhouse. They can also do soft openings and tests over spring break,
just trickling folks in.

I can believe 'sometime in April, after spring break' as a probable open, it just makes sense.

Agreed, now there has been DCA, DHS and EPCOT

Despite the general consensus on these boards, I don't think Epcot needs a "major makeover", not in the same sense that DCA and DHS needed/need. Epcot certainly needs investment and updating, but a majority of the park is just fine. They just need to update/fix a few pavilions and add some attractions to existing space.

Agreed. It has fantastic infrastructure. It just needs a series of renovations and reopening of shuttered locations. Expensive but nothing of DHS's magnitude. A quick billion would do wonders. And I have heard such updates are under consideration. In the very least, Disney is aware that updates are needed for Imagination, Innoventions, and Energy. At the glacial pace they work at, things should be fixed in time for SSE and Mission Space to be due for renos. Of course, a permanent World's Fair SHOULD have one pavilion under renovation at all times on a rolling 10-year schedule. Like they used to. Dare to dream.

And the brain trust created a 25 year old park that is 1/3 closed and only has 5 rides. Brilliant expansion plan.

Causing a train wreck and then cleaning it up shouldn't be considered brilliant just because they are cleaning it up.

The brain trust that created the great wand and the BAH and DCA 1.0 and decimated animation etc etc is no longer a major contributor. Cleaning up those issues though is no small feat. And the historians will document this.

A rushed product always seems just that.

Epcot is surely next after DAK and DHS to be revitalized. The perfect project post 50th anniversary to keep the momentum going. IMO.

PS- and then, of course, MK 2.0!!!!!

Meanwhile DAK goes another decade post Pandora without a new attraction...

I doubt that seriously. I think after MK 2.0, you will see a new E or D level attraction added each year on a somewhat rotational basis at WDW. The mistakes of the past won't be repeated. IMO.

Especially if Star Wars keeps providing cash flow.

We can only hope, but I'd argue Disney don't need Star Wars cash to improve parks...they're bursting at the seams.

I thought that Future World East would be turned into Star Wars attractions (MK 2.0) in the future. Test trac turned into Speeder, Innoventions into meet and greets / SW technology, EEA into a 45 minute SW ride looking at all of the movies and the festival pallivion back into a ride - along with your retail and food offerings. 4 E - ticket rides plus the meet and greets.

Interesting. I don't think they know what exactly to do with Epcot. To me Disney-fication of WS makes sense. Future World is tough. I'd like to see it become the new Tomorrowland at WDW. And Tomorrowland at the MK become something all together new.

Eh. I think it makes sense to use Future World to depict realistic, optimistic views of the future. It already has the backbone for that, but could use some renovations or additions to revitalize and strengthen it.

Meanwhile, Tomorrowland can keep the name but shift more towards "sci-fi fantasyland", so that it's just a fictional depiction of sci-fi tropes. I feel like it has already moved towards that anyway, but going full bore towards it would help to differentiate between FW and TL (moving CoP to Epcot would help to strengthen that, but I don't expect it to ever happen).

Nah to much money to be spent. Easier to just slowly close certain areas down earlier or make them seasonal. Cant you see it! "Returning for the holiday season is Journey into Imagination with Figment! Guest can come relive the magic of their magic memories as they enter the world of imagination for a limited time! Come through November 11th - January 6th to experience this great Epcot attraction!"
