AVATAR land construction progress

Looks like the second path to the land from Africa next to the Quonset Hut.

I don't think the current pace of WDW construction is historic, although it certainly may turn out to be for the Iger era (not trying to knock him, just making the point). When EPCOT Center, as it was quaintly known, was being built, it was the largest private construction project it the world--and Tokyo Disneyland was being built at the same time. Both Epcot's and WDW's original buildout were jaw-dropping in their scope. The simultaneous construction going on across WDW right now, though very welcome and exciting, is minor in comparison. It only seems big because we have seen so little recently.

Research what is happening in Dade County. Makes Epcot look like a Lego project.

If you need 10 years to plan something and have very little going on in the interim something is very wrong.

DCA 2, China, fixing other divisions, acquiring worthwhile IP's that could be effectively exploited in the parks such as Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar were the major priorities and time consuming. (Negotiations etc.) And considering that the parks made a billion dollars last quarter WITHOUT these new projects indicates beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they did things in the right order and this turnaround is pure genius.

Unfortunately, your facts will go over the heads of most here.

Looking at those pictures just made me realize something. When construction is done and and Avatar Land Pandora World of the thing... stuff opens, there are two things I want to see; 1. I'd love to see a documentary on the construction of this place, and 2. I really want a time lapse video that shows the clearing of the land all the way to the grand opening of the Avatar Land.

They've actually been around a while now (Well, maybe not ALL of them, but some).
First one is VERY early:

Second is from August 2015:

That bottom picture amazes me as it demonstrates scope and size. To the right of the white crane along the bottom of the photo are two gents with their yellow safety vests on. Just take a moment to appreciate how small they are relative to that vine structure, let alone the floating mountains the rise at least twice as high. Amazing.

Does anyone else think Dino-Rama will look even MORE bizarre being in the same park as this? I feel like this pushes things over the edge to the point at which Dino-Rama can't possibly be in the park for much longer after Pandora opens...

I dont think so - they are 2 different lands. It's no more bizzare than walking into Future World at Epcot then crossing over into World Showcase.

I was thinking about it in terms of quality. It's often noted that Dino-Rama stands in remarkably stark visual contrast with the rest of AK (despite the backstory). The opening of Pandora would seem to only multiply that contrast, making Dino-Rama look even more out of place in the park.

I still like Dino Rama, it is the "Fantasyland" of AK. I like the campy sense of humor, and fell in love with the roadside tourist trap theme. It may well be done over, but we love to spend time in each area of AK, because they are so different. Guess I think that Pandora next to Africa is also a bit of a head scratcher if you think about it, but know I'm going to love it.

Another way to visualize that is to look at the center of the red circle in that last picture. You can see a worker wearing a yellow vest. Look at both the size of the roots as well as the enormity of the shadow that is being cast by the floating mountain.

I don't think any of us appreciates the sheer scale of what's being built. These aerials just don't do a good job of translating height and elevation change.
