I'd love to know at what point they switch over from skipping the entire queue to filling the queue. I was maybe 10-20 people back in the initial FoP line that morning. If I knew that if I dropped back to like spot #100 I could see the entire queue, I'd be fine with that, even with an increased wait time (assuming we're talking a couple attraction cycles and not a 60-90 minute wait). My next visit I'll likely be doing another non-EMH morning rope drop, so maybe I'll ask a CM at the attraction as they start feeding us in.
Yeah, my mom is one to rush in crowds and we were pretty close up. I had wanted to drop back a little too. I can't envision them feeding much more than 2 cycles into the FP line as they would get filled up quick and potentially start an awkward merge with people who actually do have a FP at 9am.

Just had a message from a work college. Average tourist type, likes the parks. With his wife and young kids:

"Wasn't impressed by pandora.

Queue for the main ride too long.
Boat ride was boring. Just more trees.

No bloody avatars! (Except 1 on the boat ride that wasn't even a main character!)

Lot of disruption for not a lot of return. "

Did they end up riding Flight of Passage, or did they skip it?

My review from my Trip Report. I'm assuming I don't have to warn about spoilers since this is a review thread.

It begins with a feeling of energy flowing through the "bike" and you, then the doors in front of you slide up to reveal what is a huge screen but to you it's a new "reality". I never perceived it as a screen, which really helped sell the experience.

You are quickly sent through some sort of portal and emerge within the viewpoint of a Avatar/Navi on top of a banshee. You are following a guide, another Navi on a banshee, and taken on an exhilarating ride through a strange yet beautiful world. The bike moves up, down, tilts forward and back and side to side to make you believe you are really flying. The glowing green seat you see in the photo above does expand and contract from time to time to mimic the breathing of the flying beast. It was flat out awesome! I was laughing, hooting, wowing, wooing, and more. It was also a nice long ride - almost perfect amount of time. You visit different landscapes and areas of the planet and have many thrilling experiences. At the end you return back through a portal and the ride ends.

So how do I rate this ride? It's the best I've ever gone on. I was never on Harry Potter so I can't compare, but this was just incredible. If you go in as a skeptic and try to figure out how it's all done, it will take away from the experience. At least for your first ride, buy into the experience. Believe your are really being transported into a Navi Avatar, stir up your imagination and let it run free. I promise you you will be blown away.

Congrats to Disney and the Imagineers. They hit it out of the park! The rest of the group unanimously felt the same.

im not taking offense to what you said or what your friend said its just odd that all of the sudden we get a random 2nd hand observation from somebody

i mean why should anyone care what your friend thinks
its different if you wrote about your thoughts

Sorry you took it so personally. I wanted to add the voice of someone I know to be average and level headed. Why is The timing weird?

Can you point me to the official ratings you mentioned though? Seriously I'd like to read them. Thanks.

I will be going to WDW in September with my very active 90 year old grandpa. He read in the paper somewhere about Avatarland and is super excited to visit it (though I have to keep reminding him it's not a 5th gate lol). He's never seen the movie before, so I'm interested to see how he reacts to the land and rides. I'll be sure to report back.

Just as a recommendation, I would have him watch the movie beforehand. And if you haven't seen it in a while, I would rewatch as well. My family was reluctant to start a 2.5 hour movie when I had them all sit down to watch last weekend. After we went to Pandora on Sunday, they all admitted that they're glad I made them watch and it really enhanced the experience. While you will enjoy it regardless, I think having watched the movie you appreciate the land and rides a bit more.

It left my 81 year old mother in awe (and yes she rode FOP and couldn't stop talking about the experience).
