AVATAR breaks ground

So, Avatar plans were leaked in Oct 2012. They showed some Soarin' like ride with four theaters and part of a boat ride. It has now been taken as gospel by some that these are the final plans and what will be built.

I'm just pointing out that in Oct 2012, Avatar was far from finalized and confirmed. We had lots of reports from after that point that the project was close to being killed and that Cameron was ready to walk away. We never got any sort of "official" confirmation about Avatar still proceeding until the Anaheim D23 in August 2013, which had a little Pandora tease. And then some more information from the Tokyo D23 in Oct 2013.

My guess -- and this is personal opinion so grain of salt and all that -- is that Cameron didn't agree with the Oct 2012 plans. He wanted something more/different... groundbreaking. If Disney got him to come to the table and sign off, it's because he got something that he wanted. I think it is extremely likely that the plans evolved between Oct 2012 and whenever they were finalized and green lit (if they've even been finalized). Like many projects, though, I doubt that old plans got completely scrapped -- they probably got adapted into new designs. So, while the plans might still be a "flying on a banshee" simulator and a "boat ride", they might be markedly different than how they were originally conceived. Just like POTC isn't a walk through in a wax museum.

IIRC, there were reports that Imagineering and Lightstorm have a specific building with tight security where they are working on Pandora projects for DAK. It's being closely moitored to avoid leaks. What would be the point if all they are building is a modified Soarin' and a re-skinned IASW?

We'll see once we finally get details of the attractions, but I don't think it makes sense to rely too heavily on blueprints that date to when the land was still very much in limbo and a work in progress.

How does he know that? The leaked blue prints fit perfectly with the released artwork. So, I venture to guess that that is still the plan.

1. How would he know that? I'm guessing the same way that he got his hands on the blueprints to begin with -- he's probably involved in some way in the project.

2. The released artwork is so abstract as to provide virtually no information about the ride system. It could fit perfectly with a "Pandora's Box" ride system as well. In fact, if we take the artwork literally, it seems that each of us guests will be riding on an actual banshee on Pandora; not very practical for a theme park ride. The concept art tells us virtually nothing.

You must be talking about something different than what I saw. The art I saw did not show people flying on banshees. The leaked plans I saw showed the plans for the entire area, including the boat ride. Before we continue, let's make sure we're talking about the same thing. Did the leaked plans you've seen show the entire area and the boat ride? If so, we are talking about the same plans. If not, let me know and I'll go through my hard drive and post it.
EDIT -
The leaked plans I have, I found on a different website prior to when the person you said leaked it to this site leaked it. I doubt he is on the inside.

He's talking about CONCEPT ART, not blueprints. We all know what the leaked blueprints looked like. He is referring to the concept art officially released by disney which shows guests flying on actual banshees actually inPandora. Oh and @pheneix is most definitely in the know. Don't jump to conclusions when you haven't been round long enough to know that is the truth.

@Groxtak is @PeterAlt (his regular account isn't working, and he was approved to make a new one), so he's been around long enough.

I trust you. It's just a vetting process.

Yep. Those are the same leaked HVAC plans from 2012.
They've been around for some time. I still don't think anything has changed. The artwork released recently jives with these. I'm not talking about the banchees ones, but the ones of the floating mountains and the boat ride and the area where people are walking around. A blogger posted that you can see the details of the blueprints within the art if you look carefully enough. He pointed out many specific detailed examples of that I don't remember off-hand.

Why don't you think anything has changed? The Avatar project was not greenlit and proceeding in Oct 2012 when these plans were leaked. Lots of work was done after that and something changed that got Cameron to agree to it. I think it is highly unlikely that whatever was proposed in Fall 2012 was not modyfied in some fashion before being given the go ahead.

The concept art is stylized and gives us virtually no insight into the relationship with the leaked blueprints. Yes, the artwork suggests a "fly on a banshee" ride and a "boat ride" which can be consistent with the blueprints, but the concept art is not anywhere near detailed enough to suggest that they are definiately proceeding with those specific plans. It's quite possible -- likely even IMHO -- that they have developed something related to, but more advanced than, the leaked blueprints.
