AVATAR breaks ground

Did anyone (besides myself) notice that Tom Staggs is playing a more active role in deciding on big projects? They said that this (Avatar) was his idea and that he approached Cameron about it. Disney Springs was his idea. And before that, changing FLE to include the 7DMT was also his idea.....

Are they really his ideas or is he just taking credit?

The FLE exteriors are very pretty but its a case of style over substance. An area should lead to a greater interior or attraction; the weenie if you will. The outside shouldn't be better than what's inside.
I think your opinion represents the majority of people here. An area that is both visually stunning and has state of the art rides is desired. Short of that the majority would rather have the state of the art ride over the stunning environment...see Transformers which is wildly popular and basically a state of the art ride in a warehouse. This is why I said Avatar is likely to be highly criticized unless the boat ride really comes through. No matter how good the e-ticket is it won't be enough.

Well Avatar was Igers idea after a Hollywood luncheon I believe ... but yes Burbank has more hands on role on CapEx projects ... @marni1971 was it the Space Mtn. refurb that caused Burbank to be more hands on again... :p
I hope they hurry up and fast-track the next Space Mountain refurb and give us one with smooth tracks and onboard audio like the DL version! Let's see, 1994 was the refurb before the current (when was it... 2009?) one... So, that's what... Every 15 years? So, the next one would be 2024? They need to make that at least 5 years earlier, like 2019...

About Iger, I predict he has another big merger up his sleeves (to be announced 2015) before he exits.

I enjoy the current bumpiness of Space Mountain. Am I the only one?

Before DS and before HW some here suggested a reimagining of DTD without PI. But I am glad he ran with it.

Oh, and the parking garages were the suggestion of a WDWMagic poster. ;)

There were rumours that something was happening between Disney and Lucasfilm. I can't remember if anyone said that Disney buying them outright was on the cards but there was talk of meetings between the two parties and suggestions that something was in the offing.
Blue Sky Disney had been discussing the Licasfilm acquisition it for awhile as a when, not if scenario.

A big part of why Marvel and Avatar were able to be kept secret is that they we very much unilateral actions carried out almost on a whim.

I love the bumpiness too
The bumpiness works when there's nothing else going for it. The DL version is a whole different experience. For that experience, smooth tracks works better than bumpy tracks. In the DL version, you can't see the tracks - and when you don't hear or feel them either - you are more involved in the story of the ride versus the logistics or mechanics of it.

I heard that he was considering merging with Flashlight Friends and replacing Imagination with the Flashlight Friends party zone.

I personally don't I actually think it shows a lack of creative endeavors by either James C. or Joe R.

In this case I do not agree

Joe R is a GOOD imagineer, I think 'Soarin over Pandora in 3D' is more what Staggs/Rasulo are ALLOWING him to do there is no RISK in that ride system and no development cost other than the film production. I think James C is so in love with Avatar he would agree to anything as to get it in the public eye again.

I was hoping for a 3D system and attraction similar to like what Airbus introduced the A350 with

http://www.christiedigital.com/en-u.../Pages/airbus-a350-3d-digital-projection.aspx

Instead we get the usual put the 3D glasses on TDO crap.

I expect Disney to amaze me, Not cause me to shake head in wonder as to why did they do this on the ultracheap AGAIN.
