AVATAR breaks ground

In this case I do not agree

Joe R is a GOOD imagineer, I think 'Soarin over Pandora in 3D' is more what Staggs/Rasulo are ALLOWING him to do there is no RISK in that ride system and no development cost other than the film production. I think James C is so in love with Avatar he would agree to anything as to get it in the public eye again.

I was hoping for a 3D system and attraction similar to like what Airbus introduced the A350 with

http://www.christiedigital.com/en-us/3d/3d-and-advanced visualization-case-studies/3d-and-advanced-visualization-projector-installations/Pages/airbus-a350-3d-digital-projection.aspx

Instead we get the usual put the 3D glasses on TDO crap.

I expect Disney to amaze me, Not cause me to shake head in wonder as to why did they do this on the ultracheap AGAIN.
We don't even know if the ride will require 3D glasses or be in 3D at all.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you don't wear a bra.
Nothing like riding an attraction the requires you to tightly fold your arms across your chest.
Wow. Never thought of that! I learn something ever day! I'll have to bring that up with my sister and see what she says! Lol... Should be interesting!

The thing is, we know virtually nothing about it. Yes, there were the leaked plans from Oct 2012, but insiders (including @pheneix who actually leaked the plans to this website) later stated they were working on a different ride system/idea which moved from place to place. The Japan D23 spiel about Avatar talked about "riding a banshee" IIRC and showed a short clip of video footage, but that gives us minimal insight beyond that screens/film will be used in some capacity. We've heard the name will be "Flight of Passage", which tells us little, even if that ends up being correct.

Basically, there's a great chance that the E-ticket will replicate riding on a banshee. It will probably use screens in some capacity. It's likely, but not certain, that it would be in 3D.

If would be nice if we actually had some real details about what is currently planned. It would certainly improve the discourse on the topic.

Wasn't it already leaked what system they will be using? It's not the same one in Soaring, but a much more advanced system. I believe the name of the company that makes these systems, along with what model, was leaked some time ago....

I believe there was speculation about it using a Vekoma Pandora's Box ride system, but I don't think anyone confirmed that.

Exactly. Some people have theorized that it might be used, but we've never seen anyone confirm it as the plan -- or even that it has been considered by Disney. At this point, we really don't have a clue what is being planned.

That was speculation based only on rumor. The leaked plans showed something like the Vekoma Panoramic Flight Simulator and the consistent chatter has pointed more in this direction.

I think the "constant chatter" has just been an echo chamber of people assuming it will be similar or only slightly better than Soarin'. Honestly, I don't recall anyone talking about seeing/hearing specific plans about the ride since well before the teases at Anaheim and Tokyo's D23 conventions. I don't think we peons have a clue what is on the table.

Personally, I have confidence that Cameron will make sure that the main ride is cutting edge. I just don't see him "settling" for something that isn't ground breaking to anchor his land. If the $800M budget is correct and most of it is spend on building Pandora, there's certainly the resources to build something impressive.

It might be an improved version or next gen version of the Vekoma Panorama then. If what looks like the Vekoma Panorama was in the leaked plans, then either one is used, an upgraded version of it, or a system based on it will be used. That how I see it. It's very black and white the way I look at it and can't be anything else - unless the leaks are faked.

I'll just point out again that @pheneix -- the person who leaked the plans to this board in Oct 2012 -- later in July 2013 said "That is not the attraction they are proceeding with anymore" in reference to those very same leaked plans.
