A couple of days ago I was having a discussion with a co-worker about WDW's resorts. I was saying that we usually stay at the WL or GF almost always with an AP discount. She has stayed at AS and PORS and suggested my wife, 1 y/o son, and I stay there. I replied that we like to stay at the deluxe MK resorts because of the extras and conviniences to which she replied that I'm a "Deluxe snob". She said this in all seriousness. I'm a pretty down to earth guy who's been going to WDW since I was about 5, we didn't ever stay on property until the late 80's and only then at the Disney Village, then later at dixie landings and some others. I worked my butt of in medical school and residency so I could provide my family with a comfortable living and now I'm labled a snob becuase we like to stay at nice hotels. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

it's kind of bizarre that once the co-worker learned that you stay in deluxe resorts, she went on to recommend a value or moderate resort. i'm not putting those places down, but if you're accustomed to staying to larger rooms with more amenities, why would she think that you would prefer a smaller room with fewer amenities? sounds like she's got insecurity/jealousy issues.

for our upcoming trip, i was considering a moderate, but we're going deluxe (wl) because:

* i'm tall, so i prefer a queen-size bed over a double

* bunk beds for the kids

* great theming for our kids, while you're still young enough to get into that sort of thing

* since this is our first family trip to wdw, and i know my kids will never forget it, i wanted everything to be extra special.

maybe you should print a hard copy of your post and the responses and leave it in her mailbox. heh heh!

You are definitely not a deluxe snob. That is great that you work to provide a good living for your family and to provide quality vacations with them. It is your money and you choose to stay where you want. There are some people who do not make very much and save their behinds off to stay at WDW deluxes because they like those resorts and there are some who make really good incomes that stay at value resorts because they prefer those, but it does not make anyone any better than the others. Have a good trip with your family and do not worry about others comments. Maybe they are just jealous. :fork:

Very true Chuck. She sounds like one of those "misguided" friends who are like "Well why are you staying there? You can stay here for a lot less" without giving any consideration to the fact that the OP probably already KNOWS this. Again.. I reiterate.. nobody's business

No your not a Deluxe Snob - you stay at the resort of your choice! We have stayed at the Poly, CR, AKL, WL. POR, POFQ and CSR - all were wonderful (well we didn't care for the WL and couldn't understand the big fuss about it - nice lobby - after that - not much to wow us) and found we just love the CSR. Our choice so are we moderate snobs?

Well, it is interesting to see all these views. I am happy to say I am a snob. I will not go lower than a moderate. I work hard - 70 hour weeks, and I spend a lot of my time in hotels for work. If I am going to take my family on vacation, I want it to be different, having relaxing elements, I want to be spoilt and I want to be happy spending time in my resort if the kids need to rest. So we are staying at AKL in November to have all of that. I can happily watch the animals in the Savahanna rather than thinking - we travelled 3000 miles and saved a year to spend time in a Motel room (AKA Value).

When the kids get older(they are 3 and 15 months now), we may spend time at the moderates as we will be more into openning to closing type people (like pre kids days), but by then I hope our econmic means will be more in line with staying deluxe every time.

I am a snob, and I am proud of it.

I don't really drink
I don't smoke
We don't go out much
We don't really gamble

So Disney Vacations are our vice. And it's no one else's business how much my family and I spend on it, as long as we are happy.

For experience we have stayed at:

WDW:
Poly
Contemporary
Wilderness Lodge
Port Orleans Riverside
AKL Nov 2006

DL:
Grand Californian
Disneyland Hotel

Disneyland Paris:
All the hotels at the resort several times

Other interesting hotels:
Burj Dubai (the big tower)
Del Coronado San Diego
Waldorf Astoria
The Ritz London
Harbour Inn Hong Kong
The Venician (LV)
Luxor (LV)
The Bellagio (LV)
Ceasar's Tahoe
Grand Legacy (Reno)
And many more

For work, I tend to use Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn, Travelodge, Crowne Plaza, Hilton, and Marriot.

My favorite hotel of them all so far - the Grand Californian at DL!

Am I snob? Probably. Do I care if anyone thinks I am? No.

To each his own. We like Deluxe resorts, so we stay there. Some people could consider even going on a WDW to be "snobby." But, I don't think staying at a WDW hotel makes anyone snobby, regardless of category.

As the majority of the replies on here I agree no your not a snob. Since we started staying at Deluxe resorts I love it. We started out at the AS Value resorts and then Moderate resorts but have worked our way up to Deluxe when we can afford it. You work hard in life and should not worry about what other people think. Have your vacation the way you want it.

We prefer staying at AKL. We stayed at ASMu the first year we went down and vowed not to do it again. It was too loud and it was not what we were used to. I feel the same way-my husband has a good job at one of the Big 3, has worked hard for what he does and can provide us with many luxuries in life. I don't think staying at a deluxe resort while you take a well-earned vacation is at all being snobbish.

nope, to each his/her own. we go frequently with a group of 12. We don't always all stay at the same resorts though because different people have different tastes...we rarely eat at the resorts...we prefer to enjoy the park experiences because we feel more Disney...the only exception for our family is Chef Mickeys. we like to get up early and be gone all day, my brother and his wife prefer to go back to the resorts.
Everyone in some aspect has a favorite something or other whether its their favorite Disney resort or car brand or style (think of the backlash against SUV's is it really anyone elses business how you spend your $$$), I wouldn't let your co-workers comments get to you.
My vice is the Old Busch Stadium..people can talk to me until they are blue in the face and I will never be able to truly in my heart say I love the new stadium, my heart will always be with the old Busch Stadium so I guess that makes me a OBS snob. When I get to disney I don't really care where I am because no matter I am at DISNEY!

I've always been a fan of the deluxes myself. As a kid my favorite was the Dolphin...I absolutly loved the kids club there for some reason. My parents say I would run down there before we even checked in. I stayed at the Yacht Club last year and it was really nice. I never got to the pool though!!!! The resturaunts were great...great buffet dinner there. Two years ago I stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and it was beautiful. The breakfast buffet was to die for...not to mention that I met Steven Tyler there :)

Sorry if that came off too snobby.

Nah, not too snobby, though I WAS going to pretend to be the typical reverse-snob-ugly-American and write, based on your first post:

You "want to be spoilt?"

SPOILT?!?!?!

It's spelled "spoiled!"

My God, you'd think the English would know how to spell!

Eh, but I didn't.

But, for the record, "aluminum" is pronounced "Ah-LOO-min-um" and NOT "Ah-loo-MIN-yum." Your countrymen really need to get on the ball on that.

Just lived in Europe for 20 years, and get confused about spelling full stop (uk) period (US)
What about getting your cookies, biscuits, chips and pavements mixed up and trying to translate your hood from your boot and ending up one floor below the the one you need to be

Oh, sure you say that NOW that you've been exposed as a bad speller! YOU just don't want to bring shame to the crown by pretending to be an American! That's a capital offense (NOT offence), I know it is, my uncle works security detail at Harrod's!

We always stay at the Poly mainly because it means so much to us. My fiancee's family stayed there religiously when they were children (he even learned to walk there on the beach of Seven Seas Lagoon!) and then he introduced it to me years ago. And that is where we were staying when I got engaged, so it means a lot.

Even though some say the room is for sleeping, a nice room and hotel make you want to make time to do more than just sleep there. It's the feeling I get when I am there and all the amentities available to us right outside our long house. And it so much more relaxing there and with all the frenzy of the parks, a couple could use some relaxation at the end of the day. We don't vacation as often as some of the people on these boards because of the nature of our jobs, so when we do go, we like to go all out to make it really special. I spend a lot of time in the parks but we have also enjoyed everything the Poly has to offer. After all that is part of your "magical vacation experience". A lot of my best memories are from hanging out in that hotel, in the pool or boating around Seven Seas Lagoon. I can't imagine staying anywhere else for those reasons alone.

But whether it is the beautiful grounds of the POR or the Poly, it is whatever floats your boats. The world is made up of so many different people and everyone has a different idea of what they like and don't like and what they are willing or not willing to spend their money on. So in my opinion, she shouldn't of said what she said.

:sohappy: Going back Summer of 2007!!!!

I've only read a few of the posts out of the 99, so this has probably been talked about.

We are timeshare owners for 5 years (not with Disney) and exhanged last year to The Boardwalk Villas. Prior year we stayed at Disney Hilton Head. So, we are used to the 1 or 2 bedroom villas with full kitchens, laundry, etc.

Just a couple weeks ago we stayed at POP Century through the fall vacation promotion and free dining plan. I have to tell you that is was a big change having to stay in a regular hotel room. Don't get me wrong the room was nice and we actually like the whole atmosphere/theming of POP Century. Just not used to the small space, no kitchen, etc.

The way we approach Disney is that we are on the go all the time. Wake up to be at the parks at opening and go home after they close or after late night at Downtown Disney. So, in theory, Disney for us is like Las Vegas. All you need is a bed and shower and you are all set. Who cares what the room is like.

So, my point to everything is it depends on how you spend you vacation. If you are on the go like us, doesn't matter what type of room. If you enjoy the resort more, then the deluxe/villas are better idea.

We, fortunately, have the luxury of staying at the DVC resorts when we go. But, I must admit, after staying at them, we are spoiled and probably considered "snobs" for it.
