Appalling state of the monorail cabins

I was at MK on Oct 4th. We had just boarded an Express Monorail at TTC and just as they closed the doors. The Pilot came over the PA stating that they monorail ahead of us had mechanical issues just north of Contemp. It took us about 30 minutes to get to MK. Not sure what color it was but maybe there is an issue in that section of the beam perhaps. In our case, our monorail was fine but they opened the exit doors since we were still at TTC platform. Our AC was working well too, guess they were just being over cautious.

Just got back from a day trip to the World on Sat 10/24. Monorail Yellow had a sloppy job done on her when some equipment was added for possible rear-view monitor. You can see from the pic that a bolt was just put clean through the plastic windshield. I think it could have been done better. But that's my opinion. also you can barely see, down and to the left what looks to be the camera module that records the video when the pilot is in the opposite cab for backing purposes. Both ends of the monorail have these additions. I could not see if all monorails had this bolt issue or not. But this one caught my eye as I was leaving MK for the day.

Onboard "Dash Cams" they've been installed since 2012/2013 connected to the on board recorder. I believe virtually all Disney Transport vehicles that carry passengers on the roads have some form of "dash cam" installed.

as for the bolt, it may be that the windshields are starting to peel back( trailing edges are trying to straighten out) and the hardware is needed to make sure the cab stays watertight(relatively) until they can source a replacement canopy screen?

Yes all road transport has them. Just pointing it out to others they may not have noticed it. Post was mostly about the bolt through the windshield. Hopefully issue can be corrected sooner rather than later. Most people probably would never notice something like that. But I can't un-see it now. Maybe it's being a QA inspector in years past. Wife also hates when I point out holes in movie screens at theaters as well. LOL

Those bolts were added several years ago after several incidents with the windshields falling off. I don't remember them being that noticeable though.

Yes, I haven't noticed them before either. Perhaps they could have painted them black to make them even less noticable, instead of leaving them silver/chrome colored. Although I don't want them to be out of service for several months to accomplish this. ;)

I went back and looked at some of my old photos. I think they started putting these in between 2005 - 2007.

Here is what it looked like before:

In this photo you can see the plastic covering that was installed to cover it on the interior:

Here are some shots from the outside:

At the time I took these they hadn't yet installed all the interior covers.

And here's a shot of one of the incidents where the windshield came off:

Last month I was pleasantly surprised by the actual transportation aspect of the monorails for the first time in a while. No breakdowns, no stoppage other than a brief "holding for clearance" stint. I think one of the lines was down for a brief period of time at one point but I got the impression it was a planned outage. I may be wrong, though. Still, it was far better service than our last 2-3 trips.

While that part of the experience was generally positive...my God, the cabins. They still look awful. Drippy air conditioners, mildewy/gross carpet, missing panels...dirt and trash and just not a good scene all around. I'm not generally a WDW Pessimist but this is one aspect of the resort that I always feel like they should be WAY more embarrassed about. Some of those cars are just sad.

We were down at WDW last night, and we just couldn't convince ourselves to ride the monorail after that last experience (earlier in the thread). We actually waited an extra 30 minutes each way for the ferry just to avoid it. I'm not sure we'll ever be able to get on one again.

Sad to say, but I was impressed with a couple of monorail cars I was in a few weeks ago because they were in "ok" condition rather than "deplorable" condition.

On our recent trip, we decided to ride the monorail from Epcot to TTC for Contemporary. It was our first monorail ride of the trip, and the last. 30 minute delay at Epcot platform and wen we finally boarded we hit the TTC and slowly made our way to Contemporary. Only reason we didnt leave the platform for a bus was that they kept announcing, "slight delay, we will depart in a moment".

So then, Going up the escalator as we were leaving Contemporary to head to Poly, I saw Monorail Red pulling out. I thought, "cool, there will be another one here shortly". 15-20 minutes later, Monorail Red pulls back in for us to load. I asked the CM if that was the same one and if they were only running one monorail on the resort loop? He smiled and slowly nodded with his eyes closed as to say, "ya, this is sad". Waiting 20 minutes wasnt the worst, but its just sad that the monorail system is in shambles.

OK. Not to over simplify, but based solely on the thread title, I am going to guess. . . Florida?

King's Island in Ohio used to have a monorail for their Wild Animal Safari and while Ohio has some issues, I do not believe it has reached the "Appalling" stage yet? For those curious on the current location of the monorails, they are part of Jungle Jim's International Market in Fairfield.

I was just looking at one of my monorail pics from about a year ago., according to the time stamp on the pic I took it Nov 15, 2014 at 8:16am. I was near the MK Toll Plaza and noticed that Monorail was being towed from the direction of EPCOT on the EPCOT beam. I thought, wow this is pretty bad that the parks are not even open yet and they are towing a monorail to backstage for repairs. I do realize that monorails are in operation hours before parks open for CM transit as well as get all monorails on-line before park open. But, that's pretty bad.

In case you are suspect. Here's the pic. LOL

Sometimes the trains don't want to function when trying to open. Ever had a flat tire on your way to work?
