Another Disney Parks "New Years Eve Announcement" 2012

So is it safe to assume that because it is being announced on network television, it will be something marketing related that includes BOTH coasts? So I am crossing off any major WDW addition or announcement off the list. I really don't know what it could be except for another push for Limited Time Magic. I think Disney realizes that the only people who even know about it are fans. This could give it more exposure to the general public. Not that anyone in the general public cares anyways...
I think that's a very safe assumption.

In the past, what forums have they used to announce new attractions or big construction projects? I would assume any new announcements of that nature would follow the same pattern with whatever the same forum they've used to make past new attraction construction announcements.

I would exclude the Avatarland announcement from the norm as it was staged jointly with James Cameron's company.

I doubt Disney will use valuable national air time to announce a theme park addition that is years away (e.g. Avatarland) or something with limited appeal (e.g. GF DVC). Instead, Disney should use the air time for something with immediate marketing value.

The general public (i.e. the people who will be watching the show) don't regularly visit WDW fan sites and have no idea about what is already common knowledge on forums such as this. Since Disney already introduced the public to the 'New' Fantasyland during today's Christmas Day parade, the most logical next thing to announce would be details of the Limited Time Magic or some other promotion. To the typical viewer of the Ryan Seacrest Rockin New Year's Eve broadcast, it will be news.

It might be NextGen but given its rumored problems, I doubt they'd announce something that's not ready for prime time.

Of course, I'm very much looking forward to eating my words when they announce the Star Wars 5th Gate.

Monty, I have neither the time nor the desire to discuss my alleged 'arrogance' or my 'wit' ... I know what works and why (both here and in regions beyond). ... So all I'll say is Merry Christmas!
And a very Merry Christmas to you as well!

HP 2.0 has already been announced, just not the details. Universal should be doing everything it can to downplay HP 2.0. They definitely want to avoid making a big deal out of it at this point.

Getting people excited about HP 2.0 now means people will delay their Universal vacation until it opens in 2014. Undoubtedly, Universal is desperate not to have HP 2.0 adversely impact attendance before HP 2.0 opens.

Yes, but they haven't give any further details.

UNI absolutely doesn't want to talk Potter 2.0 now ... not with so much opening first, starting with next year's huge Transformers debut. Let people ponder and wonder and talk. They don't have to announce anything because they have the buzz. ... Disney does not.
~This is what I meant. As soon as details are revealed...I imagine Disney will release the "potter swatter" (I live in hope)

I guess I'm in the minority, but I actually thought the one extra day thing was a pretty cool concept. I didn't make it down there for it, but that's irrelevant.

By the way, they said a Disney Parks announcement not a Disney World announcement. Most likely whatever it is will be a broad concept and not related to a specific park or attraction. I would have guessed limited time magic, but they already talked about it earlier in the parade. If you are hoping for something related to a new ride or attraction you are probably going to be disappointed.

I thought it was a neat concept as well but I thought the notice was way too short for most to enjoy. I did however get went to florida that week for a trip for work. I opted to go the next day rather than waste $90 to stay at one park all day.

I am thinking the new years eve announcement will be about some of the first limited time magic events.

DVC-GF and limited time were already announced. But maybe it will be LM details. Anyway, I'll just check this board on New Year's Day to see what was announced.

I have to say that honestly, I did not think they made that big of a deal of it during the parade. It was not meant to be some kind of big buildup to keep make an announcement that will let us all down. It was basically saying, we are going to make an announcement...they did not say huge announcement, they did not say earth shattering announcement...just an announcement. I think we can calm down. I think we are also not taking into account what going over this fiscal cliff is going to have on both Disney and Universal....I have to think that big corporations that Disney and Universal that are going to get hit hard with increases in taxes and such are going to pull back from what they offer the customer. I know nobody wants to hear that, but unless our political leaders put their egos aside...the Middle Class is going to be slammed by both parties...true story.

I think the fiscal cliff would impact small businesses a lot more than large corporations. Not sure if there would really be a large tax increase for TWDC but there could be a potential trickle down impact if middle class and upper class people end up paying more in taxes maybe they delay or cancel a WDW trip.

Not everyone will be able to partake in every promotion that Disney advertises. It may be appealing to some and not to others. That's life.

I am hopeful that this will be something fun that my family could participate in. Whatever it is, I hope it is being offered in August when we go. :)

A few more days and the rumors can be laid to rest.

You mean the same things they will be announcing 4 days earlier on Disney PR Blog. One would think it would be whatever they are doing with D23 - whether they want to announce when they are killing it, or whatever else it would be.

I'm doubting the annoucement is re: Limited Time Magic because that's already been announced and was discussed many times during yesterday's parade. I think the idea is it's something people haven't heard yet.

Maybe they'll be announcing the super cool <insert super cool thing here> that will be talked about for weeks before being shown to a packed, media only, crowd.

Maybe the LTM for the week of February 28 will be a redeux. Most of these things are going to be recent events they have the process map handy for, Tianas, Pixar Weekend, Star Wars WEEK, Food and Wine at the Flower and Garden - TDO is lazy, they will do whatever they have to lower the bar to the point they dont trip going over it.

The latest Disney Insider email hints to a giveaway/sweepstakes/contest being announced on 01/01/13. I would think that this might be what they were referring to.
