That's sad, I don't see the new movie, having the vibrancy, colors and just campiness that the original presents. I mean when I think of mary poppins I think of the bright colors (like during the penguins and animated scenes). A modern movie isn't going to have that :(
I wouldn’t count that out just yet. I’ve read that there’s a sequence where they jump into a Royal Doulton plate, similar to the chalk drawing that led to the Jolly Holiday sequence.

I really think this is the perfect ride for Disney to go retro. Instead of high tech ride systems, or screens give us a ride we would get in the 60s 70s (not plywood) but an omnimover or something (I for one am glad they are still doing boats), lately it feels like who can have the most technical ride between them and universal. But every ride is starting to feel the same, I think an old school ride would be a major hit, and this is the right IP for that. Something like the "jolly holiday" would be perfect!! If done right, up time would be great, it could eat people, and wouldn't be that expensive. I also think long term the classic style of ride will hold up better than these "technical marvels"

That's my fear too. The first movie just lends itself PERFECTLY. I really expected them to go with the classic in this instance. I'm pretty mad they aren't.

I'll have to see the new movie before I decide. It would clearly be a no brainer to use the original but this movie has the potential to be a very good film. The only reason I think a lot of people are upset is because many have already decided the movie is going to be "less than" the original or just not a good film. This is a case of nostalgia blocking the view of many.

Not saying you are doing this but pointing out a general observation.

True.

Personally I've just wanted the original Poppins as a ride for so long, but not begrudging the new one at all (I know you weren't including me in that but just wanted to say it). My tune could change after seeing the film.

We'll start to see it because based off the orchestration I heard at d23 there are no callbacks like that. Rob Marshall kept emphasizing how he wanted this to feel like its own thing while still inspired by the original. The new music evokes classic Poppins but is not literally said material.

Of course.

A Spoonful of Equal...
Merry Christmas (the original is where the war on Christmas started)
Chom Chom Cheerios are Heart Healthy
Feed the Bards (this is a scene where they help a band of homeless of minstrels)
Step in Thyme (scene at the spice factory run by an evil Emeril analogue)
and SuperDuper-cali‐fragil‐istic‐expi‐ali‐docious which is such a big departure from the original, there is worry it won't be recognized

Maybe it'll be based on Saving Mr. Banks and Tom Hanks will pop out of a parallel dressed as Walt?

:D

At the end, dad will take the young lad outside for a rousing rendition of...

Oh, oh, oh
Let’s go fly a drone,
Right over my neighbors home,
Let’s go fly a drone and turn on the GoPro.

Video comes out crystal clear,
I got a shot of his wife’s rear,
Oh let’s go fly a drone!

As an interesting side note, there is an adorable Mary Poppins themed tea cup in the Twinnings store in the UK. It is a ceramic type mug with a silhouette of Mary Poppins done in bas relief and the handle is her umbrella curved, complete with the parrot's head on top!! It is white/ cream colored on the outside and is unglazed ceramic and a great pale pink inside, which does have a glazed finish on it. If I can find the matching teapot, I may need to own that. Just a note to say this is still quietly and slowly moving forwards (or at this time a UK addition hasn’t been cancelled)
Sorry Martin, I'm sure that this has probably been addressed in the 200 something page threads, but is this ride concept going to be similar to Tony Baxter's Mary Poppins ride design? I saw a short video on this a few years back and thought it was brilliant and would fit perfectly in the UK pavilion.

I don’t have specific details but I doubt it would be so elaborate.

happy to hear it is moving forward! is it still bouncing between being a flat ride or a small dark ride? I know before there was some dicussion about which direction they were going. I understand if you can't say :)

Its also for the best this moves forward, that whole side of world showcase is going to be swarmed when the rat opens.
