If Disney really used that metric, then their under-use thus far of the Incredibles is financially irresponsible.

I'd agree with you but The Incredibles doesn't fit into a particular pre-built land very well which is why I think it's been mostly neglected short of an ill-conceived yet workable dance party. Although The Incredibles 2 will likely see that under-use changed. One could guess that Carousel of Progress was in contention for this very IP overlay but I'd imagine that went over like a lead balloon, thankfully.

Based on Rotten Tomatoes 'fresh' (i.e., not/recommended) score, Brave is equal to Monsters University and better than The Good Dinosaur and all three Cars.

Based on critics' score averaging RT and Metacritic, Brave ranks better than Monster U, Good Dino, and Cars 2 & 3.

Based on Worldwide Gross, Brave did better than: WALL*E, TS2, Cars, TS, A Bug's Life, Dino, and Cars 3.

Based on profit, Brave did better than: WALL*E, TS, Cars, Bugs, Dino, Cars 3

Based on Rate of Investment, Brave did better than: Cars 2 & 3, Dino

Sorry, I should've said weaker. Most of the films you compared it to (except for Wall E and the two TS films) are considered the weaker Pixar films. The Brave IP is just weaker in comparison to the other options for UK, it wouldn't promote anything coming up like Mary Poppins would, it doesn't sell as well as the options (except for maybe Toad), and it only seems to be talked about when Disney randomly inserts it in one of their shows (and that's only because they lack female role models, but hell, Poppins is a way better role model to begin with). I just don't understand why they would pick that IP if it barely fits thematically compared to the alternatives, and especially when one of the alternatives is considered the best live action Disney film of all time.

Also, Cars 2 made more than Brave. Movie Gross doesn't mean anything, popularity and merchandising is where Disney really looks. That's why Cars Land had no references to Cars 2.

The female role model is an important one. Merida doesn't have a love interest and even purposefully eschews one. She is very proactive. Compared to the classical princesses, she is the anti-princess. And that's why her import is more than the movie. As part of the official Disney Princess Franchise, she's more than her movie.

I would have thought by your Avatar that you would have recognized that Cars 2 isn't represented because of box office, but because of just how bad a movie it is. ;)

But what feels quintessentially British? Sword in the Stone doesn't really...(though the story is) Bedknobs and Broomsticks seems like too remote a franchise... Brave feels very Scottish, but not British...Which IPs do the Brits find most appealing to represent their Heritage... personally? Martin?

Brave!!
Poppins
Mr Toad

Unfortunately, Disney only goes one extreme or the other. They only promote stereotypical female role models, or stereotypical damsels in distress. Ironic that they are all princesses. How are people supposed to relate to that?

You know what's funny?

My little girl seems to like many of the princesses. I have ideas as to why she likes/relates to specific ones, but I try not to analyze and just let her be a kid...
