News Announced: Mary Poppins Attraction in UK Pavilion

Agreed!! This is exactly what I think as well. The way they made the announcement...almost like it was THE big "surprise" of the Epcot segment, and with a musical number... and **** Van **** appearance....we're talking something bigger than a Meet and Greet or Carousel here. Also, if the attraction were Carousel themed...I'm certain Mary would have been riding a horse on the poster and not pictured descending onto Cherrytree Lane from the sky with her umbrella.
The attraction artwork also features the image of a balloon floating up, like the balloons in Returns. It could be a combination of the two films.

I hope it ends up being a dark ride based on the original. I love love Julie Andrews and the remake was so creepy.

It was a sequel.

Everything in the art points to MPR.

Here's Jack and MP from MPR with a balloon...

The Mary in the poster is from MPR. The kite is the patched up kite from MPR....

Apologies for being out of the loop and not wanting to go back and read 300 pages worth of posts, but why did so many people think--and still think--this will be a carousel of some sort?

A carousel--even the most spectacularly themed one--would be underwhelming especially given the importance of the movie: many people think Mary Poppins is the best Disney film ever made (and there's also the sequel and the "making of" movie).

And to confirm the attraction while keeping the details top-secret so they can later reveal. . .(drumroll). . . a carousel? Talk about a letdown.

Now if the horses leave the carousel and gallop through the animated English countryside. . . that's something else altogether.

I think it's the opposite. To announce it's a carousel right after having that big number with Dick van would be a letdown.

Revealing that it's a carousel a year from now, everyone will have forgotten it ... like the new Magic Kingdom theater they announced two years ago.

We think it because we have very reliable insiders, mainly @marni1971, who have hinted that is what we should expect. Maybe it's a spinner with some seriously plussed up elements but calling it a dark ride is setting yourself up for disappointment.

It may be an important movie, but it's not a billion dollar franchise. Not trying to rehash the conversation of whether or not MPR was a bomb, it wasn't it did fine, but it didn't light the world on fire and that's the new standard for determining whether or not you get premiere parks treatment.

Do you feel you have the latest scoop on what is planned for the Mary Poppins attraction or is the information you have from some time ago??

This was personally my favorite announcement from yesterday...I'm really hoping not to be disappointed...

As always...any info is appreciated...
As far as I’m aware it’s still a type of spinner ride. I hope I’m wrong with this one.

Like I said above though, seems weird they really announced it in such a way where I’m not sure if it’s a spinner could be, but I’m doubtful. Why would they announce a whole new mini land build up an attraction just to announce a spinner seems off.

I'm figuring WDI is looking at the live-actors-in-a-cartoon section of Poppins as the highlight both films AND a way to 'toon up' EPCOT. I suspect that the ride itself could still very easily be a simple carousel, but you have to journey to the indoor cartoon land to get there through some magical preshows at Number 17.

Imagine some Enchanted Tales with Belle type preshow to a sort of mini-Mermaid Lagoon like at DisneySea, but it's English fair instead of underwater kingdom.

Again, all fine to me, because otherwise UK pavilion has nothing going on.

It’s not a mini land.

From what I know and from what they’ve shown the budget seems to tally. Like I said I hope I’m wrong. I’d love a good old busbar ride.

Would the budget allow for a Carousel (in appearance only) with a platform that breaks away into dedicated ride vehicles as they move toward screenz similar to Rat or MMRR? Cause that'd be a nice departure from a basic spinner.
