American Idol Experience To Close

I hope Disney has some kind of plan if they are moving up the closing of AIE. Between this and the AFI shop closing it certainly seems like something is in the works. Here's hoping...

If you reread the quoted section, you'll see that Crazy Omurice (is that name supposed to sound like "Old Maurice"? Because it's apt.) is specifically mentioning the contestants.

Further, I think it's inane to expect the judges and host to actually be who they're portraying. No, chances are the Simon-esque host is not actually from London, much the same way that Christian Bale isn't actually an orphaned billionaire playboy with a leather fetish.

But if it is a real song contest, where the contestant can compete for real, then advance to appear on television, as a contestant you would find it inane to expect some type of real judge panel?

Well, this is a terrible shame. My friend Leslie and I were gonna make a special trip in September just to see this show, as it would be closing soon. Turns out we'll already be too late. (sigh)

God bless the "Ignore" button.

Just because they're performing a character doesn't mean they don't have a musical ear. Heck, I'm pretty sure that, after the qualifying round, all the voting is done by the audience. The judges just provide color commentary.

The judges do offer a fair critique of the performance, which might sway the audience ("Oh, yeah, he did slouch during that part of the song..."), but it's still the audience that makes the call.

The Frozen Sing-Along Show has a queue down San Fransisco Street on Streets of America. As reported on this site, Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights are starting to go up. American Idol is under performing while the temporary Frozen show is getting higher numbers than American Idol ever did. Assuming they push the Frozen event out again or want to continue the show, they won't be able to do it on Streets of America with all the stuff for the holidays. Besides, American Idol experience is set up for Fastpass+ and has more queue space already existing that they can capitalize on. It just makes sense, nothing to do with expansion plans.

Equity actors can't just be "reassigned" to other shows, as some have suggested. Besides the obvious fact that those other shows already have a cast (what are you going to do? Fire them?), equity performers have a contract for specific shows not with the resort. Yes,some will wind up staying but the majority of them will be out of work at the end of this month.

Also, the "Arrendale Historians" are equity as well. One of them played Gaston down the street for years and years before being aged out of that role.

I for one am glad to see AIE go. My wife has a beautiful voice and was chosen as a finalist and so we had to rush our ADR at Ohana only for her to lose. What a waste of a $230 meal (I only got to drink one Lapu Lapu too!). Good riddance!

You're blaming the AIE for you rushing through your meal? You could have made the decision to skip the meal or just not do the show. That's your own fault.

This exactly!!! The sad thing is AIE had already become it seems the sort of orphanage for various Equity performers who's other shows/clubs had been closed already. I'm glad the Frozen show has the Historians as another place for the "improv comedy" performer at WDW. They're such a unique kind of entertainment and it's a shame to see the roles available for them reduced over the years.

I'm sure it's a hardship on anyone who is let go as a result of this show closing, but it's the nature of the business. If you are an actor on a tv show, a dancer on a muscian's tour or a performer in a Broadway show when your show ends it's run you are out of work. You start looking for your next gig. Many people end up working odds and ends jobs until their next opportunity comes along. It's one of the biggest drawbacks of that kind of work, but if that's your passion you really have no choice. There are very few places where you can get a creative type job where you are acting or singing or dancing that lasts indefinitely.

AIE had its run. I can't say I'm sorry to see it go. I wish they were replacing it with something from a galaxy far, far away, but I'm trying to be patient with that;)

That's all entirely true, I'm a musical theatre major in college so I know how the business works. The thing is that for awhile or a long it seemed you could have a steady job as an Equity performer at Walt Disney World because there were so many shows and parts for equity performers. It seems that those gigs are harder to come by these days at WDW.

While there are limited opportunities for Equity positions at Walt Disney World, there are many jobs for cast members. While it would likely be a lower paying position, and many Equity members may not be interested, are the performers offered a CM job at Walt Disney World when their performance role ends (as nearly all such roles eventually will)?
