American Idol Experience To Close

It's rumored that the plans on the table are to expand SW through the Muppets area and replace Streets Of America. Personally, I hate that idea. I wouldn't want to see the Muppets go (or Mama Melrose's, or Pizza Planet). Streets Of America desperately needs either an attraction or shops or dining retrofitted into it, but it adds a lot to the park and shouldn't be demoed either IMO.

Of course, even ignoring the HISTK playground, SOA does actually have an attraction -- the Premiere Theater -- which simply doesn't get used much. I'd really like to see that reopen with a regular show (or shift Laugh Floor there and put up a Monstropolis facade). Personally, I think a PatF show would be nice given that it takes place in America; could even be coupled with Mama Melrose becoming a Cajun/Creole place. Keeping the SoA also allows for the Osborne Lights to continue easily.

I'm not a fan of expanding SW into SoA. There is room backstage + using the access road (once reconfigured as planned) + building into the parking lot as needed. DHS needs a bigger footprint of onstage land anyway. Once of the reason that the park feels so crowded on SWW and other busy days is that it just has less room for guests than the other parks.

The fact that they have not given HISTK a Pixar overlay always struck me as odd. Seemed an obvious add. Now I think we can assume it is because that they have other plans for that area. I am guessing SW long-term with Pixar expanding towards the Back Lot and LMA....... AND BEYOND! sorry

Correct
Last week disney waited to charge our card at the end of our trip
All at once

Yep, they aggregated potentially hundreds of individual transactions into one. If you had 200 transactions over a week at $0.05 each that is only $1.00 but given the annual number of guests it could save a lot of cash especially if they more like $0.25 per transaction that many large companies pay saving $ 49.75 in total just for one guest group.

It's interesting that the new rumor there mentions the "Battling coaster". This idea started floating around a while back due to a patent for this type of ride which turned out to NOT be a Disney patent. I guess it's possible that Disney has licensed the patent, but it does make me suspicious.
I remember that, it was a very exciting time around the internet, it was before I knew not to trust everything you see on line. I would love to see those plans again

I personally would rather see it go in SoA simply because I dont like that area as much, but thats just my preferences. Also, yah, It would definately help to expand the parks footprint anyways.
Yeah the Cars Rumor will never die for some reason. IMO, since Disney Land already has Cars Land, I would think they wouldn't want to duplicate now after so many years. I would rather See Monstropolis or something newer.
I don't think they would add two brand new from scratch lands simply because, as sad as it is to say, it would be too much of a challenge for them and it would end up cheap. I would love Monstropolis-infact that is the land i would most like to see out of any option-, but I'm doubtful.

I've said before, but a very cheap way to add Monstropolis to DHS would be: reskin the "streets" of Streets of America to Monstropolis, add Laugh Floor to the Premiere Theater, convert Mama Melrose to "Harry Hausins" and then use the HISTK plot to make a dark ride (like the one in DCA). New immersive land with minimal investment.

While its interesting that American Idol is being closed, its hardly unexpected given the shows slide in the ratings, however this thread has now divulged into a string of speculation, be it carsland, SWL, or an expansion of Pixar Place. Should Idny be announced to be closing then rather then being a discussion of what could be, this quickly become an exciting guessing game! Here's to the future!

This is so true! SOA really serves as more walking space for a park that doesn't have enough of it, it was for this purpose it was opened to the public originally and removed from the back lot tour.

Just how much empty attraction or otherwise empty warehouse space does the Studios have at this point? Do they still have dusty costumes from movies of the 80's and 90's on display for the sad back-lot tour in those massive wardrobe buildings? Someone outside the bean counters at TDO must realize just how much potential they have there to overhaul that park.

Yes I dont understand why they did not do the tornado scene as intended, it couldnt have cost any more than fantasia thats there now. It would have made the entrance into munchkinland so much cooler. Also replace Alien with Maleficent, just an idea. I've said this in the past but I wish Turner Classic Movies would become a sponsor of GMR, imagine the possibilities with that.

Replace Alien with Star Wars, have an AA version of Vader at the end of the hall while looking from behind the rebel troops firing on stormtroopers. Lots of fog and the door being blasted open like in the opening scene from EpIV.

Put Maleficent where the westerns are now in the castle bestowing her "gift" to Aurora with AA Maleficent like the witch in Oz.

So much could be done to update the attraction, bring in more popular and current movies that most younger guests can relate to.

Indy to Adventureland would be great and I think there is room. Nothing says it would have to be a clone. The franchise could also be adapted to DAK.

Especially a mine train attraction based on ToD (I know it's not the most popular of the original trilogy) that takes place in India.

No, it means they don't know what to do with the area. PP phase two has been on the board since 2007 that I know of.

Don't know what to do or won't pay for it.

This may not be the right place for this, but we are talking about the topic, so why not.

So I was looking around about SWL and got to wdwthemeparks.com, and I saw this:
  • It is expected to be a simulator that utilizes Disney's variant of the CAVE ride system.
What does that mean/what is the CAVE ride system?
