And not slamming you but I'm not sure you have established your creditentials as having a direct line to WDI. I hope you do though.:)
I have no direct line. However reliable sources say Tony Baxter has plans to put it back on the platform within the next few years.

It is a "thrill ride" with the younger guest in mind. Everything at the MK is not designed for just your age group in mind.

huh?

Disney rides should be fun for the whole family. I didn't say ANYTHING about thrill rides (HM is certainly not a thrill ride). IASW and Jungle Cruise are also MAJOR rides and not thrill rides. We were talking about phillarmagic and how New Tomorrowland (which was mostly family attractions) and Splash were the last major additions. :veryconfu

OK, am I the only one who wants to hear more about the John Carter of Mars movie?! If done right this could be huge! Or is this one of those I heard a friend, who hear a friend who overheard an exec who over heard an imagineer? John Carter has everything (swords fights, shoot outs, adventure, a love story(kinda), shapely women (and men) and big ugly monsters). What more could you ask for!!

John Carter of Mars will be Pixar's FIRST live-action movie. It will be faithful to the novels though naturally there will be some changes to make it less sexual. Director is Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) in production now. Release date 2011.

Will it one day have an attraction at Magic Kingdom? Only time will tell. (I would certainly be open to one).

There is also another rumor that everyone seemed to forget about that I believe had some truth to it and that was the Adventureland redo. Basically the story goes that if Harry Potter is the big sucess that we all know it will be then Disney will quickly greenlight a major overhaul of Adventureland that would include:

- A new version of Tokyo's Raging Spirits
- Swiss Family Treehouse replaced with the massive husk of a pirate ship
- New version of Tiki Room
- Updates to Jungle Cruise
- More changes to Pirates of the Carribean
- Veranda being reopened with a pirates overlay

So basically it would become a land heavily influenced by the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Personally im not too keen on it but if it means getting rid of Aladdin carnivale spinners and tiki room under new management and doing a proper refurb to POTC then SIGN me up immediatly! :)

That being said, I think the Fantasyland redo is/should be first priority. That place needs a redo, a cleanup, and some new attractions desperatly.

Along with their own look at the Harry Potter madness going on at Universal, Jim Hill Media also has a good little bit of info about a proposal to have Pirates take over of Adventureland. Seems like the Tortuga restaurant is just one of many ideas that would see the the Pirates theme begin at the Adventureland gates and carry through all the way to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride itself. Nothing has been approved of course and shakeups within Imagineering may see these plans being shelved forever, but it including the replacing of the Swiss Treehouse with a new Black Pearl ship guests could explore, a new Pirate version of the Tiki Bird show and even a new outdoor coaster ride that would tie into the proposed storyline for a 4th Pirates film where they quest to find the Fountain of Youth. (Jim compared it to a Pirate themed version of the Raging Spirits coaster installed at Tokyo DisneySea in concept.)

That's a pretty unrealistic expectation. Not all families fit the same demographics. If you want to have any serious discussion about compelling guest experiences, you have to acknowledge that certain demographics have disjointed interests. An interesting experience to me is likely different than a 4 year old's, and the converse is also true.

IMO, Disney's themed attractions should cater to the largest audience needed to justify the investment without compromising on the vision.

I dunno it worked well for Walt for 20 years at Disneyland and has worked in Disney movies for over 70 years now.

That's not patently true. "The whole family" doesn't always enjoy rides like IASM, or Peter Pan's Flight, or Dumbo, etc. And some rides that don't cater to "The whole family" (which is essentially any ride with a height restriction) are also working well. The truth is "the whole family" is much too broad a term, and far too limiting in attraction design.

You can think of the park design like a tree. The whole tree (or park, in this instance) should appeal to a very wide audience. Each branch (or land) should appeal to a somewhat narrower audience (much like Fantasyland caters to a younger audience than the park as a whole), and each leaf (or, attraction) can cater to an even narrower audience (like attractions with restrictions). The end result is that each ride can execute successfully on a very directed vision, while giving demographic balance to the land, and each land balancing the park. Done in that way, we'd still have a Tomorrowland with AE, instead of SGE.

Agreed in full. I think it's the easiest to do, the most marketable, and most realistic. It's also pretty damn cool. I love RFID Tech.

And it's been done before...;) 1983!
