From what I understand, were it successful, it would become a new staple for the Disney parks, planned to be installed in Tomorrowland at Disneyland, Tokyo, etc.

Yes, Mission: SPACE was a big risk that Disney should be more inclined to take these days, but they put all of their eggs in one basket with this one when they didn't need to. For one, even with the sickness that it created in a lot of people, if they had built a big pavilion with lots to do (but still with Mission: SPACE as the focus), those people would still get sick, of course, but they would all collectively be more satisfied with their overall pavilion experience. Especially if they had a restroom at the ride exit, which they should have built no matter the pavilion size!!! For another thing, and this is a chronic Disney problem, they way overhyped it. If they didn't overmarket it, and they built a big Space pavilion with something to do for everybody, I think the media frenzy over Mission: SPACE making people sick would have been greatly diminished.

They should have also started out with the "Green Team" mode, too.

Personally, I think everyone would have been better off with a completely different Space pavilion, and have put Mission: SPACE in Tomorrowland instead of Stitc
h.

That mighta worked....With a nod to an old attraction.

I would have loved to see the Journey's/HORIZONS in space plan....That would have been cool, a Omnimover through space.:o

I strongly suspect that much of the hate directed at M:S is because of the land it sits on. Anything but a rebuild of Horizons would have been received negatively IMO. It's easily in my top 10 greatest attractions I have ever experienced.

Bingo...but only when talking about fanboys/girls. I used to know a person who adamantly thought M:S sucked because it replaced Horizons...nevermind the awesome ride inside.

Well, I wouldn't quite say that. That's absolutely the case from a fan perspective, and maybe a little bit from long-time Guests, but it seems like the average Guest doesn't care or even remember anything about Horizons.

But once again, if they had properly updated and marketed Horizons, it would probably be just as much as a must-see for all Guests much like The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc, possibly even more so than anything else in EPCOT, including Spaceship Earth.

The sad thing is that half of WDW guests don't even know about Horizons.:( A few of my friends families have AP's and they go "lul whut wuz dat, a boring ride?" when I mention Horizons.:rolleyes:

Exactly...EPCOT doesn't even have classics anymore.:zipit:

I said the same thing a few weeks ago.

Heeeere it is!

Exactly! The new one is really very good, it's just inaudible. WDI REALLY needs to "plus" the audio. It exemplifies the ride and the theme SO well. Even now.

And even with some "enhancements":lookaroun

But the old audio is still one of the CLASSIC DISNEY things that captured the EPCOT Sprit and made one of those magical Moments and memories for me, and I think MANY people on these boards. It's a shame we had to loose it . WDI could have easily kept it with the new narration.

I digress here, but why is NOTHING Classic in EPCOT ever kept? Every park is allowed to have it's classics. EPCOT? Nope. Rip down Horizons, change narrations, let entire Pavilions be dumbed down or sit away and rot. Even the Mascot was taken away. (for a time...Some might argue he is still gone)Every other park UPDATES it's classics and allows the original attractions to stay and flourish with refurbs and updates. EPCOT has not a one. It's a shame, too, becuase MANY of the original EPCOT Center classics were easily upgradeable and adaptable for a new future to be depicted when the time came. It's a shame not only for SSE, but for the entire park.

I bet a large percentage of Cast Members don't even know what Horizons is. Whenever someone asks me what my favorite ride is and I reply Horizons, I often get a blank stare until I say, "You know, that ride where you got to choose your own ending?" "OOHHHH!!!"

Although, to be fair, I once worked with a CP in Monorails who didn't even know Pirates of the Caribbean was a ride. :hammer:

I think the France movie is all thats left, American Adventure too maybe, but then those arent rides so I guess thats a little different. Well we still have Spaceship Earth, sorta. I'll still forever say it was fine as it was, but of course it had to get massacred like everything else at Epcot. I do like Dench she has really grown on me, its just too bad the script is poor in parts.

Yep, WS has 3 IMO, Maelstrom, AA, and France. Too little for a park as amazing as EPCOT.

(Although, AA really takes the cake.)

I do not think so..I agree that I would prefer, as I am sure others would also..Horizons still be there..but I have been on Mission Space and thought it s u c k e d....I hated it and would never ride it again.

I loved World of Motion but I also enjoy Test Track..LOVED Mr. Toad but like Winnie the Pooh..

So, if people do not like it that does not mean that they do not like it just because it replace Horizons..

How did it S u c k? Themeing wise or story?

Personally, I would have like to see BOTH Horizons in Space or at least the shell of the building repurposed.

I stand by what I think. Of course not everyone dislikes it because it replaced Horizons but almost all of the disinformation (and there is a ton of it) IS because it replaced Horizons. You would think that M:S is the only ride where a tradgedy has occurred but that is not true. So to use that as an excuse (not you but others) is dishonest. I know for a fact people ride it with their minds already made up that they hate it BEFORE they walk through the door. Sad but absolutely true!

The ride is great but like anything else, some may not like it. I hate Energy as it is currently presented, rode it once and will never ride it again until it has something (anything) coherent to do with the subject of energy. People seated near me were actually SLEEPING!:snore: :ROFLOL:

So, bottom line, to each his own.:)

I feel as if SSE, Part of The Seas, and LWTL are classics...

I agree with you. I also stll think AA is amazing and there are still the wonderful vistas of WS and SE.

But they have a lot of work to do to restore the former glory but it can be done. And I think M:S meets the criteria as does Test Track but as "pavilions" there isn't much Epcot in them. Energy needs a wrecking ball. I actually hope that during the refurb they find the ride system is a "lost cause" and the have to rebuild from the ground....er....I mean sinkhole up :p:o

I thought it was boring and just not fun.. certainly not worth waiting in line for to me

I would agree with you, if I thought Disney would produce a new Energy pavilion that's just as amazing as the original Universe of Energy was, but there is no way the modern corporate climate would allow that.

But luckily, updating Universe of Energy is relatively easy and cheaper, so they will probably go that route, and hopefully produce a new, exciting, superb show.
