Just imagine how awesome a whole Space Pavilion on the scale of WOL or The Land would've been. Add M:S as the major anchor attraction and boom, immediate success, IMO. None of this "M:S is the biggest failure in EPCOT's history" crap.

Yep, I always thought the WoL building would be easy to convert to a Mars habitat (built into a crater) with all kinds of possibilities. You journey there via the M:S and then the possibilities are limitless!

I think WoL should just be put out of its misery and torn down. Besides, it would put balance back to both sides of FW, having three pavillions on each side.

However, it is common knowledge that M:S wasn`t nearly the hit Eisner wanted his baby to be.

And I think that this is very unfortunate. Everyone defends EE as the second coming of all etickets and the battle that took place to get it built, but M:S was a huge, much bigger gamble, and I wish it would have paid off. This makes Disney less inclined to take risks IMO...

Love the idea of WoL being turned into a weather pavilion but...

I'd rather see "Space" take over that space (WoL) in a pavilion comparable in size to The Land. Everytime I mention it Lee says that will never happen and he would know I hear.

The Wonders of Life dome would be a wonderful facility to use as a Space pavilion. Just imagine queuing up, boarding a simulator ride (either the existing Mission:SPACE attached to the building, or a replacement for Body Wars), and taking a journey through space to a domed base on planet in the process of being terraformed. Inside you would find all varieities of exhibits and shows on the history (and "future history") and perceptions of space. Or the base could be on the Moon being terraformed, and you could have the choice of taking the thrill ride simulator, or for those not thrill inclined, a space elevator simulator.

But personally, I'd prefer not to lose any topics out of Future World, so would rather them develop a new Health and Life pavilion, just as vital of a topic as ever. And of course bring something back like Horizons. :D

Weather shouldn't really be anywhere but between The Living Seas and The Land. It's just too perfect.

Trivia: Wikipedia claims The Land is about the same size as Fantasyland.

That neat little piece of trivia has been around since before Wikipedia was even a gleam in some nerds eye. I believe it was touted in one of EPCOT Center's original promotional videos.

A lot.

Media induced hysteria and over stated safety briefs about the death ride may be something to do with that.

Well that and its underwhelming final section

I think the biggest disapointment about Mission Space was that they kept advertising that there would be pure weightlessness in the ride. Yeah right. What weightlessness? There's only strong G forces. Very disapointing.

But don't get me wrong though, I do really enjoy M:S.

Careful! That`s management speak!

LOL gotta love Wiki - anyone can put wrong info in. The Land is six acres; the same more or less as the old 20K plot.

Until someone invents a zero-G machine on earth I don`t think anyone expected weightlessness. The great effect you do get is when the capsule rotates so you spin butt-first. Very effective at having arms floating in front of you. To think we put our first M:S ride off for 2 weeks, then hammered it on the final night after going green first....

must be getting old.

The weightlessness feeling used to be a lot stronger before they toned down the experience. Stupid Media, Stupid Judy, Stupid Energy.

I don't know, I went on it around the time it was brand new and I didn't feel any weightlessness any time then either.

I've only seen the Preshow...postshow...and Chicken exit. Oh, I did see the ride car for about 3 mins.

Mission: Space is a casualty of the marketing monster Disney has created like Alien Encounter and Pleasure Island (as we are led to believe). I'm speaking of course of the happy happy joy joy magical where dreams come true homogenous Disney Parks brand where everything must cater to all the little pirates and princesses throughout the world. Walt Disney World used to be advertised as the "vacation destination of the world" for "all ages". M:S, AE, and PI...even EPCOT were created under huge risk to offer a little something for everyone. Disney puts up warnings for M:S and AE and guests do not take them seriously...now the rides have bad reps. Pleasure Island was a huge gamble for Disney that was very successful during the majority of its life. Then Disney takes down the gates and kills the nightly New Years Eve party, so the "families" can get to the Westside of Downtown Disney (which IMO is not family friendly). Meanwhile, Citiwalk at Universal is making a killing.

Fairy tales and pixie dust not your thing (all of the time) we don't want you. You're too old.

Next years slogan:

Disney Parks: We take no risks and raise prices!

Not quite; that`s a tie between Astuter Computer and Imag `99. However, it is common knowledge that M:S wasn`t nearly the hit Eisner wanted his baby to be.

From what I understand, were it successful, it would become a new staple for the Disney parks, planned to be installed in Tomorrowland at Disneyland, Tokyo, etc.

And I think that this is very unfortunate. Everyone defends EE as the second coming of all etickets and the battle that took place to get it built, but M:S was a huge, much bigger gamble, and I wish it would have paid off. This makes Disney less inclined to take risks IMO...

Yes, Mission: SPACE was a big risk that Disney should be more inclined to take these days, but they put all of their eggs in one basket with this one when they didn't need to. For one, even with the sickness that it created in a lot of people, if they had built a big pavilion with lots to do (but still with Mission: SPACE as the focus), those people would still get sick, of course, but they would all collectively be more satisfied with their overall pavilion experience. Especially if they had a restroom at the ride exit, which they should have built no matter the pavilion size!!! For another thing, and this is a chronic Disney problem, they way overhyped it. If they didn't overmarket it, and they built a big Space pavilion with something to do for everybody, I think the media frenzy over Mission: SPACE making people sick would have been greatly diminished.

They should have also started out with the "Green Team" mode, too.

Personally, I think everyone would have been better off with a completely different Space pavilion, and have put Mission: SPACE in Tomorrowland instead of Stitch.
