SSE Update:

Two new transfer access vehicles were added to Spaceship Earth in February to accommodate Guests with disabilities.

The project, which was several years in the making, provides a 28 ¾-inch opening entrance to the transfer access vehicle, compared to a 12-inch opening on the remaining standard vehicles, providing a more accessible transfer into the seat.

"It is our goal to create accessibility wherever possible," said Mark Jones, Operations manager, Services for Guests with Disabilities, Worldwide Safety & Accessibility. "The large opening and exposed seat of the transfer access vehicle will provide many of our Guests, including those traveling in wheelchairs or using other mobility aids such as walkers, canes or crutches, with much easier access to this popular attraction."

Several teams helped incorporate the transfer access vehicle including Worldwide Safety and Accessibility, Ride and Show Engineering and Epcot's West Maintenance team.

"The Cast think it's been a great addition for our Guests who experience Spaceship Earth.," said Bob Olson, Future World East Attractions, Guest Service manager.

Spaceship Earth joins a long list of Epcot attractions, including The Seas with Nemo & Friends, Test Track, Ellen's Energy Adventure, Living with the Land and Journey Into Imagination With Figment, that offer unique vehicles for Guests with mobility disabilities.

"Spaceship Earth, our iconic attraction, is something that all Guests should be able to experience during their visit to Epcot," said Dan Cockerell, vice president, Epcot. "I am constantly amazed by the level of hard work and creativity that is put forth by our team to ensure that our Guests, regardless of their physical limitations, have immersive experiences in our park."

This explains the report of SSE vehicles being removed recently. Thanks for the info!

While we are on the subject of Spaceship Earth' It turns out Judi Dench and Jermey Irons were co-stars in a Television film done by the BBC. Weird coincidence.

Maybe the BBC should have sponsored it and it would have been done by now.
