Yes, as Servo said, the paperboy does indeed speak again. Albeit he's yelling at the wall, but he is shouting his "Extra, extra!" bit.

And I agree, the removal of the chariot from Rome makes you scratch your head. Honestly, the thing had been there since 1982 (right?); it couldn't have been THAT hard to keep up and running.

It WAS running when SSE opened, and WAS NOT removed (You can still see the Projection Booth on the other side) but after a few months of operating with it, the decision came from on high to turn it off. At least they TRIED to keep it.

:(

True, it was there during the inital opening. Just don't get why it was turned off. Was it a rather small thing? Sure, but that's what makes it more puzzling. Why get rid of such a little thing that added quite a bit to the Roman scene? :veryconfu

Just from this dialogue it sounds like it broke and they just haven't fixed it.:(

I hope is comes back, it was always such a neat little effect.

 That's one of my two EPCOT Center boyfriends from my childhood!
The reason I wan't to remove him is because'
First the technical problems caused by the Paperboy. In 82-94' his voice was too high. In 94-07 his voice was too low. Now he's not even looking at you. Also in my version I want to remove the Civil War- Related stuff. The Rennaisance took place in the 14 and 15 hundreds. America has not even been founded yet. The next thing you know the American Civil War is over in the next scene. It makes little sense to make reference to events in one country in the story being told about our common humanity and the Future that awaits us. Simply' I would remove the paperboy because he does not fit the story that I want to tell in what will hopefully be the fifth iteration of Spaceship Earth.

But by that logic, most scenes would have to go. Egyptian, Greek, Alexander G. Bell, and the Woz look-alike in the garage since those all happened in a specific country, just to mention a few.

Not neccasarily. All the other things you speak of (Though I don't recall a Alexander Graham Bell scene in SSE.) speak of important "stepping stones" toward the future. The American Civil War only affected America and is not really relevant to the story being told on Spaceship Earth. BTW In my script the Woz-look-alike is specificlly referred to as Steve Wozniak.:animwink:
Oh and for trivia buffs' The caveman scene supposedly takes place in a cave located in what is now France.

I would love to share my script with you guys but Disney reads these boards and I do not want them to see it before I am ready to show them. However the last sentence of my script (not counting the exit spiel) can be seen in my signature.

No' unfortunatley' I wish to work for WDI in the future. The dissapointment of the newest incarnation of Spaceship Earth inspired me to write a new script (which I have revised several times now) that I hope one day to utilize on the next SSE Refurb. Sorry for the confusion. I have just begun to dream.

I do have to give some credit to Tom Fitzgerald (of all people) for the 94 script. Much of my script is based on the 94 script. In fact my Burning Rome scene is word for word the 94 script. I would describe mine as mostly Irons with some Cronkite thrown in and a dash of Dench and of course I have added a lot of my own wording. I pretty much have the whole thing dreamed up in my mind by now.

The paperboy no longer shouts at guests; he is shouting at the street cyc behind him. He was also another victim of the rehab scheduling; both he and the musicians had to updated after the soft opening.

Martin, since he's not facing the ride vehicles, do you know if he's even 'on'? Like, is he just audio and stationary since his front is not seen by guests?

Noooo..... he is fully automated, with A100 limbs. Occasionally he`ll look over his left shoulder at guests.

So why the change? This along with the missing Rome projection make no sense.

My guess is that the way it was set up it looked like he was trying to sell papers inside the printshop to invisible people in timemachines. Now he actually faces out into a "street" that is newly added and thus creates a more coherent and logical scene.

As for the chariot, I read somewhere that the decision was made during a ride through by a senior imagineer who deemed it looked too cheesy :brick:

So when do we start the "bring back the chariot" petition?

By the way, I know your question was directed to Martin, I just wanted to add my opinion/info. I would recommend his knowledge because he has sources while I deal in conjecture. I swear :lookaroun
