Al Lutz: "Next Generation" RFID personalization coming to Fantasyland attractions

WHO CARES if Disney keeps track of you? What possible difference could it make to your vacation?

No kidding! I'm fascinated by some folks who are actually worried that Disney would be tracking your movements, on a mass scale, throughout their property. What's the big deal?

It's not like there is a, um, er, "Gentleman's Club" in the basement of the Contemporary and if you wander down there your RFID tag alerts the wife back in the room that you have strayed off course. :D

And it's not as if Disney would assign CM's to sit in a massive control room (dramatically lit and sleekly furnished for added impact) tracking every movement and every visit in real time. And even if Disney did have human CM's tracking millions of guests movement over the course of their 8 day vacation, which they wouldn't to begin with, but even if they did... so what?!

We do realize Disney already has access to much of this information via your room reservation, your Magical Express info, your Dining Plan visits, your DVC usage, your Fastpass you got for Splash Mountain with the tickets that came with your disney.com reservation, etc., etc.

Wait, are those black helicopters hovering over the Tomorrowland Noodle Station tracking which combo meal you just bought???

I swear, 1982-1983 must have been amazing for Disney park goers.

Not to get too off topic, but the huge capital expenditures of 1982-83 led to the poorly-leveraged situation and hostile takeover attempt of 1984 that nearly destroyed the Company.

But I agree that it must have been exhilirating before the dark clouds moved in.

This sounds like a GREAT idea.:sohappy:
I could care less if Disney was tracking me on property. I can easily trust them. Plus think of how great this would help everything, not just attractions - but transport, crowd flow, everything!
Plus, dozens of things could happen as you walk by them!:D

As you may know if you've followed my posts, sometimes I have denied what third party speculators have stated. However, I can confirm that not only is this true, but it was actually something that I had planned on posting about in less detail to break the news on it here on the forums (and a few other places). This is going to happen and it's very exciting.

It won't be long before I post another big update about the Magic Kingdom... but that'll have to wait. Let's just say that WDW has done extremely well during the current economic situation and efforts are going to be made to make sure that success continues.

Very briefly :

It will take away the requirement to pull out tickets and insert them into machines. Fastpass will become considerably more efficient.

EMH will no longer require guests to pull out tickets to enter attractions. A sensor at each attraction would ID who is eligable and who is not.

At the the resorts, keyless room entry.

The whole RFID program is massive, and covers a lot more than just being ticketless.

Think of EasyPass or SunPass on the highway. Just walk through and go.
Fastpasses can be electronically "loaded" on the card and then confirmed in queue.

I been wondering, if we dont get a ticket for fp how would we know what time we can go on the ride and when we could get another fp.

Or would we be allowed to go through the fp line a certain amount of times a day or only once for a certain attraction? (like you get 1 fp for sm but you get 2 fp for philharmagic or you get 4 fp a day and you could use them any way you like but every 2 hours) Which I think the regular guest would find this difficuilt to understand. Alot of ppl today still think you have to pay for fp.

Or is this going to be like universal and only hotel guest get to use fp

It will never cease to amaze me how Al Lutz gets these scoops, and just goes with it and puts it out there and trumps everyone.

He does it all the time for Disneyland, and on this one it involves WDW too.
