air-conditioning and sweaters

We going to WDW this July and I know I won't need a jacket or anything, but I wonder about bringing a light-weight cotton sweater or wrap for overly air-conditioned restaurants and theater-seating attractions.

Of course, I'll have to drag it around with me all day, every day and I'll have to bring a tote/purse large enough to carry it.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I personally don't think you'll need it. I was there in June (hot, hot, hot) and brought a light zip-up hoodie with me. I brought it to the parks once and it never left the hotel room after that. The air conditioning was a welcome change to the temps outside. Keep in mind, I am a person who gets chilled easily (even though I have thick Newfie blood:animwink:)! And I did do a lot of sit down restaurants with the air conditioning on bust - but I NEVER felt cold enough to need a jacket or sweater. I did put a little jacket on my daughter once while we were in DTD. Those stores were pretty cool and my daughter was having a nap in her stroller - I figured she wasn't as hot as the rest of us so I put the jacket around her shoulders.

I'm not even bringing anything like that on my next trip b/c I know I won't need it!

And here I thought that my wife was the only woman who would think of wearing a sweater in florida in july. Some of the restaurants and long attractions can be colder and so she will get a little chilly at times.

If you don't think it'll bother you to carry it around all day, then by no means go ahead and bring a jacket. You never know when one restaurant or building/attraction will be cold, so just in case you'll have one. But if it matters, I don't think you should bring one. It's going to hot and humid all day, and even at night and most of the time you are outdoors so lugging it around all day might be a pain. I find that going from really sweaty-hot to nice a/c is a pleasure, it usually never gets cold.

One exception though, if it rains or on the weather it's planning to rain...bring the jacket! I went on a July summer day and it rained the whole time. I wish I had a jacket, it was so incredibly cold. The indoor attractions, the a/c, everything was just so cold. So to recap if what I typed didn't make sense haha, I would bring a light jacket in case for this trip but don't plan on using it all to much. :)

My wife Seemed to get chilled in the Restaurants in the evenings more so than in the day. We went in August and during the day, anytime in the air-conditioning seemed like an oasis in the desert

If you are going to the Hoop De Do Review you will need a sweater, its like an icebox in there. Only time I wish I had a sweater in other places was after the rain, its very easy to catch a chill when you go into the a/c.

We've been in July every year for the last three years and I promise you I never needed a sweater. I'm usually pretty cold, too. I will turn on the heat in my car sometimes in the middle of summer becuase I think it is cold. :hammer:

I visited 10 years ago and I remember the busses were like iceboxes. Every day I would swear I wouldn't need a sweater and then every night coming home, I sat shivering and teeth-chatteringly regretting that I'd left it back at the hotel.

I will have a poncho for the rain though. Does anyone know if the Disney rain ponchos fold down into small pouches?

Oh man do I second this one! We got caught in the rain running from the boat to Pioneer Hall.. and were wearing tank tops and shorts! We made a stop at the gift shop for some dry t-shirts... we knew we'd never make it through the show!!

I bring a light sweater with me everywhere. I never know if a restaurant is going to be chilly or not so I would much rather carry the extra "baggage" then to be uncomfortably cold. I live in Texas and even here in July I carry a sweater, boy do I get strange looks...lol

They do not (at least, not in the past - I haven't purchased one in years), but I always throw a couple of ziploc bags in my purse. You can fold it up into a quart sized one; that's how I store them at home. Also, it gives you something to put leftovers in, your camera on a wet ride, etc.

I bring a very lightweight nylon rainjacket which folds into itself, which can be attached to a belt, your purse strap, etc. I use it as sweater if I'm chilly.

I once made the mistake of just carrying a largish purse; never again. I'll stick to my waterproof tote from now on.

I'm not so sure you'll need it during the day but if you take a mid day break to your room I would bring it back during the evening if you don't mind carrying it. I always wear tank tops and shorts and every night I shiver walking through the stores and some of the attractions. I'm too lazy to carry one which is why I never bring one.

I always dread going on Philharmagic at night because I'm always cold in there to begin with and then getting cold water splasheed on me makes it worse.

We will be there the last week in June and my family will throw a light jacket/sweatshirt in a pack for the evening time. We know we wwon't need it during the day but we dress light since it is so hot but once the sun goes down and the winds picks up we get the shivers.

In February, light jackets and long pants are a necessity in the evenings. I've never needed extra clothing in August... I'm usually trying to figure out just how minimalist I can go and still be allowed into the parks... :lookaroun

I live here and we tend to feel the cold a lot faster than others. Believe me you will not need it in July. You'll be happy to be cold. It is brutally hot!!! HOT, HOT AND MORE HOT!!

If you have never been to Florida in the summer, you have no idea how brutal it gets. Wear light colored clothing, nothing dark, make sure you have plenty of sun screen. I've seen people come from up North thinking they already have a tan from going to the beach and they get burned. We are so much closed to the equator, that the sun is quite strong during the day.

BRING THAT SWEATER!!!!!! It's hot in July, sure, but air conditioning is VERY cold, and the contrast is amazing. Particularly if you're wet. I never go to the parks without a light sweater packed in a lightweight shoulder bag.
