Aerosmith Contract Ending Soon? What's Next For Rock 'n' Roller Coaster?

I really don't see why Aerosmith would not renew the contract...they love the ride and gives them some more advertising.

As long as it isn't another 10 year contract. It's not like any group remains popular forever. And I have a feeling the newest generation of coaster fanatics isn't sitting around anticipating the next Aerosmith album. Gotta either go retro or go fresh.

I don't think hannah montana is happening. The show is ending soon :sohappy:

Doesn't matter. Disney will sow Hannah Montana for years after its official end. Look at shows like That's So Raven, Kim Possible, Even Stevens, etc...

As long as Disney can continue to make money off Hannah Montana, they will. And the coaster doesn't have to be Hannah Montana themed. It could go Miley Cyrus themed.

Still don't think that is where this will go. I agree with the others here who think Aerosmith will still be the feature for a few more years.

By the way, this wasn't meant to be a rumor that is going around. I was just speculating, that's all.

I don't know if it will be a 10 year contract or not. But, the questions still remain:

1) Is the original contract 10 years?
2) Is there a clause that kicks in that allows Disney to use Aerosmith even after the contract expires?
3) If the contract is ending, does anyone know if Aerosmith has extended with Disney already, or are they about to?

Everyone seems to assume it's the bands decision. I'm pretty confident Disney would not sign such a contract with anyone. Everything about this is being kept very quiet. But I think you may see changes soon. To what degree, I don't know.

I would consider Aerosmith more timeless than 95% of groups out there... And I don't know that more "current" generation groups will ever be able to have the same staying power in this day and age... There are just too many outlets and avenues for music fans. Back in "the day" you listened to what the radio wanted you to listen to and that was about it. And it didn't change weekly. These days... There are so many more options.

Anyway... My point is that you have to play to the largest segment of your audience. And most everyone knows at least a couple Aerosmith songs, even younger kids.

Jt said it earlier. The best solution is often the easiest one. They'll re-up.

Re-upping would be smart for both Aerosmith and Disney, in my opinion. I am just curious if anyone knows the details of the original contract, and the questions I asked earlier.

I think retro classic early rock (pre-elvis) in a 1950's section works. It's fun and everyone knows the music.

Also it would allow DHS and DCA to cover themes based in every decade of Hollywood's "Golden Age". The 20's and 30"s at DCA and the 40's, 50's at DHS.

Basically:
1) Is the contract with Aerosmith really set to expire? I believe the original term of the contract may infact be expiring.
2) If so, how fast will Aerosmith be removed from the attraction? They won't.
3) Who or what will Disney replace Aerosmith with? Won't have to. Aersomith will be staying.
4) Who or what would you like to see replace Aerosmith? Me? I'd like U2. Or No Doubt, since they are the only other band besides Aerosmith to even come close to being in RnRC.
5) Do you think a G Force overlay would make sense, with a complete rebranding of Rock N Roller Coaster? No. No little critters allowed.
See above.

There are two problems with this... One is cost. Pay licensing fees for a whole new mess of songs, completely retheme the whole attraction from que, to pre-show, to load, to ride section, to store at the exit, plus the exterior of the building.

Second is I personally don't think that coaster is something that goes well with that kind of music. Harder rock music like Aerosmith just matches the whole thing better than something that would come out of the 50's, IMO. I can't think of anything "pre-Elvis" that would make sense... Considering the launch and everything else.

It's easiest to re-up from both sides of the fence here. It works well for both just to sign on the dotted line and get back to finalizing how TLM will fit into FL.

I guess I try to see things from every view point and I just don't see future generations getting excited about Aerosmith. I'm of an age that appreciates their music but musical tastes vary greatly over time. That is why I think retro 50's would work, especially if they created a 50's "land" to present it in. Just my opinion.

Most of that music is about to enter into public domain by the way.

PS- Mermaids are fantasy.

I'm not positive how the "public domain" thing works, but I'm pretty sure that songs go into the public domain if no one RETAINS the rights. I don't believe it to be a case where at a certain age, a song enters the public domain irregardless. There are pleny of songs older than 50 years that are still copyrighted... See "Happy Birthday", or any of the discussion regarding the holiday overlay for the CBJ.

And I know Mermaids are fantasy. I was making a joke about WDI manpower being needed for that rather than RnRC. It was a poor joke, admittedly. I should have said something about needing all of their resources for the groundbreaking of TLM next month, so they didn't have time to waste on RnRC. :lookaroun

No way!!! I may know it, but that doesn't mean I like it. Heck, thanks to my dad, I'm pretty sure I know everything John Denver ever sang, but I haven't listened to it since I moved out 23 years ago. Don't like the idea, not one little bit. I wouldn't mind them updating it to a group that has a bigger presence on the charts these days, but it still has to be rock. Not Brittney, not Jonas, not Miley. It's GOTTA rock!!! That ride makes you scream, Chubby Checkers ain't gonna do it. It'd be like having Ariel be the pilot on a new version of Star Tours.

Here is how I understand it. I'm not an expert on the music business. The actual recordings are copyrighted. But after so many years they can be recorded and sold by new artists who don't have to pay a royalty to use the song. I understand congress is being lobbied to change the law.

Some of rock's original songs are timeless and known by everyone. For example Chubby Checker's The Twist, or BHatC's Rock Around the Clock (the Happy Days theme song). I think rockabilly songs would be fun and would fit the ride especially if it was part of a 1950's land. I'm not sure Aerosmith music will stand the test of time as the classics have from the birth of rock n roll.

Plus I want a Roger Rabbit dark ride to be added to DHS.

Um, John Denver isn't 1950's.

OH... So you'd be potentially talking about COVERS of originals?? Eek. Those are the songs on Rock Band and Guitar Hero that I never play. Unless they wanted to just pay the fees and use originals, then it doesn't matter.

I could maybe see "rock around the clock". But I don't know if that's any better than "love in an elevator", for example.

And many would call Aerosmith "Classic Rock" already... The more time passes, the more that will be the case.

Not for me and "Love in an Elevator"? Really? Not exactly what I would consider Aerosmith at their best. They really have not been cutting edge fresh since the 1980's.

I wouldn't want them to do covers of original songs, BUT once songs are in the public domain it might be easier to get use of the originals. Disney and early rock artists (and their estates) could really create some very positive synergy. Trust me that Aerosmith and others built their careers on the stuff and they would be the first to admit it.
