"He did not die from TRAUMA suffered in the accident."
I'm not sure if that is the case.

"like advanced age, hypertension, or a history of heavy smoking"
Umm, he was 22 that kind of rules out these factors.

"If only one other person suffered even moderate injuries, it says something about the safety of the ride."
You've got to be kidding, so one death is an acceptable fatility rate because the ride seats 36-45.

"However, I can't see how Disney can be culpable if the guest died from a heart condition rather than trauma."
Absolutely, 100% Disney is legally liable. If the brakes fail on your car and you hit a pedestrian you are liable because it is YOUR car and it is your responsibility even if there is no negligance on your part (I've yet to see any evidence of such negligance in this case)

"I think they should also be commended for being as forthcoming as they are with information, and for handling the incident as efficiently as they did. "
I agree with you here.

True, but if the person who died was the main provider for his family...

That's not a reason to sue or not to sue, that's the reason we have something called life insurance.

Yes, there are a lot of posters in this thread who are going overboard with speculations, theories, panic, negativity, denial, etc. It's going to happen. The anonymity afforded by the Internet allows people to be as crass, dishonest, or downright mean as they want to be without fear of repercussion. That's just how it is and those of you who are offended by comments about ghosts or whatnot should get used to it pretty quickly.

That being said, there ARE people that prowl these boards who have a definate axe to grind when if comes to the Walt Disney Company. They will cast things in a negative light whenever possible while trying to come off as experts or insiders. There are also Disney fans here that will say anything in order to defend the company whether they know it's true or not. The bottom line is...

Don't believe everything you read, and take anything anybody on these boards tells you with an extremely small grain of salt.

I'm just waiting for someone to say that they heard construction on Expedition: Everest has been halted indefinately while they examine the ride plans for the possibililty of this fault. Heck, this accident may cause them to re-think coaster-style rides altogether.

Second-- quit blaming the media for "blowing this out of proportion". Someone died, for Christ's sake! And it happened while they were supposed to be having fun. The accident occurred at the most popular, most successful entertainment complex in the world. This IS big news.

THANK YOU!!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

Jeeze... I know we are all Disney Fans... and we will stick up for the company & parks..... but damn, bad things happen... even at the Happiest Places on earth!!!

Quit using the media as some kinda cop out and a excuse for everything..... its just getting old.

I won't be defending disney. They messed up. Shows how safe their rides are. I hope the families win the lawsuits.

It was a horrible accident. Anyone that needs to sit here and talk about how it isn't Disney's fault, or how 'well designed the ride is because only one person died' has got issues.

I can't even believe that I am reading some of the things I am reading - this is insane.

WHO CARES WHO'S FAULT IT WAS?!?!?!?!?

EDIT: Biting my tounge.

I know that *most* people here are really trying to be positive and supportive of Disney and not panic. But I have to admit that this news is making me rethink my desire to book another trip soon.

We were just at WDW in June, and my mother and I were discussing the safety at Disney. She was amazed to see me ride all the rides because I don't ride a lot of rides at the usual amusement park. I explained to her that I ride them all because I trust Disney's safety standards. I never felt "scared" when going on to a ride at Disney--I only felt excited, and that is the way that we should feel at an amusement park.

I have a lot of anxiety about many things, and Disney was one of my only "safe" places. I always felt like nothing could go wrong at Disney. I'm really saddened that I no longer feel that way.

PLEASE! If it was an accident, Disney didn't mess up. All rides have problems, all over the world. My home park has had two deaths since i can remember. Many parks have problems all the time. When you crash in your car, do you sue the city? No. You sue the guy you crashed into. Roller coasters are the safest form of transportation (i doubt you inspect your car for 6 hours before driving in it). Accidents happen. Period.

And no, roller coasters ARE NOT supposed to be closed when it rains. I have ridden numerous rides when it's raining. They close roller coasters in Florida when it rains because it also comes with lightning (most of the time). Riding in rain is not fun, but every major theme park will run all rides in the rain.

All of you who are scared to go back to Disney, I hope you're scared tommorow, when you get in your car, cause i see car accidents all the time, but no one is scared of cars, and again, you don't inspect your car for 6 hours before driving it. As stated above, Roller coasters are the safest form of transporation. Period.

I won't be defending disney why? Because its disney's fault. Did a guest cause this problem? No.

I think I can safely say that mkt is not the only one here that wishes you would disappear, Ceo. I was not aware of today's events until logging on and slogging my way thru 16 pages of speculation, rumor, and general hysteria. The one thing that sticks in my mind from reading all these posts is your callous attitude to this whole incident. It almost seems to border on glee that the Disney Company has suffered this tragedy. If you feel that negatively, then do us all a favor and take your attitude to the Six Flags boards or Universal and bash away over there. The ultimate cause of this will be found out in due time. I don't have a problem with people speculating on events, but when you start talking about how you hope Disney loses whatever lawsuit you think might come their way, then it's time for everybody to RELAX.

At any rate, don't go away mad or anything...just go away.
