worser things have and are happening

This is truley a bad thing, but the media will likely blow it out of proportion and I am sure that news helicopter had to avoid the vultures, woops, attorneys circling waiting to swoop in and sue someone....

Well, a quick look on Lexis-Nexis shows that people wilkl sue disney for any reason. Lots of times it gets tossed out or dragged on for ever. And disney always appeals. Always.

This case....the families won't have enough information to sue. I mean is anyone actually going to find out why the front train broke off. it could be wear and tear could be a bump in the ride caused by someones glasses or something. YOU CAN'T PUT A VALUE ON LIFE. so why sue, it won't bring them back. sorry if i sound dismal

It was offically announced about an hour ago that Thunder Mt here at WDW is closed indefinatly until they can fully inspect every part of the track for any ageing peices or what have you.

According to a safty expert and to one of the engineers of the attraction, they believe and are leaning towards it being a crack in the track some where in the vacinaty of where the derailment took place.

Quite humorous. When a train derails, its always because there is something wrong with the track? No. High winds, other factors can play into it. Now winds arent a factor here, obviously, but things that could be:

something dropped onto the track by a previous rider
too much weight on one side of the train
something a rider on the train did

or it could be a ride fault. I'm just saying don't pass your opinion as fact until we know.

You know what... Disney doesn't need you to defend it, they have their own lawyers. Train derailed - Disney's fault - period.

No matter what, they are legally responsible for what happens at the park. And that - IS a fact.

First of all-- we WILL eventually know what caused this. So let's all stop speculating!

Second-- quit blaming the media for "blowing this out of proportion". Someone died, for Christ's sake! And it happened while they were supposed to be having fun. The accident occurred at the most popular, most successful entertainment complex in the world. This IS big news.

Third-- who gives a crap about lawsuits? If the guest is at fault (which sounds highly unlikely at this early stage) the courts will recognize that. If it was a maintainence oversight or operational error, the families will be compensated. That's why we have courts. It happens every day.

Fourth-- quit believing the urban legends that Disney is going to cover this up. Sure, no company wants "bad publicity". But this goes beyond that. Did you not see Michael Eisner and Jay Rasulo take center stage at the press conference? They're stepping up to the plate when it counts. As for the investigation-- its being conducted by state and local authorities-- not Disney.

This was a terrible accident and I really feel for those killed and injured.

However, given the information that I know at this point (which may be lacking), I'd like to make a few observations.

From what I've heard thus far, the gentleman that died suffered a heart attack. He did not die from TRAUMA suffered in the accident. Granted, he may have literally been scared to death; but he must have had some other risk factors for a heart attack, like advanced age, hypertension, or a history of heavy smoking. People are not SCARED into having a heart attack for no reason; they must already have some factor that has made them prone to one, and the accident is the event that sets it off.

Second, If memory serves me, each of those cars holds 12 to 15 people. A train with 3 cars would therefore have a capacity of 36 to 45 people. (Feel free to correct me; I'm no authority). If only one other person suffered even moderate injuries, it says something about the safety of the ride. Obviously the work put into safety brakes, padding and restraints was effective enough to prevent MANY severe injuries.

We here, and the media, can speculate all day about whether there was any negligence on Disney's part that caused the accident. However, I can't see how Disney can be culpable if the guest died from a heart condition rather than trauma. I think they should also be commended for being as forthcoming as they are with information, and for handling the incident as efficiently as they did.

Just my two cents. We should all say a prayer tonight for all those involved.

I have never been one to speak out allot on these boards about peoples posts and or opinions but I feel something needs to be said.

This is a tragedy a human life was lost today by an accident. Can we please be

1. Mature about the issue and show respect to the gentleman that lost his life, and keep his family in our thoughts.

2. Let’s stop this speculation about this and that until we know for a fact what happened.

3. We all know the media jumps at any news. Anyone who lives in Florida can you tell that with our "little" storm we had today that the local news was running with predictions of the entire state being hit with over 15 inches of water. Don’t believe everything you read or hear. People will RUSH to be first and allot of times recant when they are wrong.

Most of all I find it disturbing when people make light and or say things like example "I wonder if his ghost will haunt the ride"

I chalk that up to age/maturity and maybe the person was trying to come off a different way. But again please show some compassion in this case and not make light of it. Some one is with out a husband a father a brother and a son tonight.
