A YouTube themed area...

Are there other studios where you DO see people walking around with their merch? I can't think of much online-specific merch in general, let alone YouTube. Maybe The Onion or Homestar Runner.
Homestar is the only one I can think of that I've actually seen any "on the street" people wearing merch.

A lot of them do fine with t-shirt sales and other merch (especially people like Philly D, where his youtube channel is basically a short news recap and a vehicle to pump his online store)

I didn't say it was their revenue. If The merchandise sold Consumer Products would notice and push it more. The parks would follow suit because they are operated as malls.
I guess I'm confused at where you see Consumer Products playing any role in this whatsoever. They don't have anything to do with the Parks business.

Nah not really. I have only once saw somebody waking around with Merch from a YouTuber and it was a Shay Carl book bag.

While I admit I enjoy YouTube from time to time (I even use it myself occasionally to post/share hiking or travel videos), this whole "YouTube Star" thing is beyond ridiculous, and adds fuel to our already narcissistic society.

No.
And while we're at it, let's do away with the notion of "You Tube Stars."
:banghead:

You make it seem like Youtubers are different from famous people on TV or in Movies.. Or any other famous comedians, singers or entertainers. They're famous people that millions of people watch on a screen as they sit on a couch and eat snacks. There's not much to that definition.

In fact, the definition of a "star" in this case is exactly described as: "a famous or exceptionally talented performer in the world of entertainment."

Which is exactly what the creators of successful YouTube Channels are. Watching a famous YouTuber that reviews movies are no different than watching some talk show on Television review a movie. Watching a famous singer on YouTube that records a song is no different than watching a music video by a popular artist.

I don't go on the youtubez or the googlez. All these new fangled internetz are clogging up the series of tubez. Back in my day we used the napster for our vidiahz, and I still Ask Jeeves using my Netscape Navigator.

Basically sums up everybody on this site, TBH.

Nope.
Call me old fashioned....but I refuse to acknowledge the "fame" of a "YouTuber."

I rank them just below TV "Reality Stars."

Okay. I'll call you old fashioned. Thanks for the permission.

On top of that note, fans of a Youtuber are also more loyal to the Youtuber they love.
Even for gamers such as Markiplier

While I do enjoy sitting down and watching hours of YouTube videos a day, I don't like this idea at all. Watching YouTube for entertainment is kind of taboo these days because of all the stupid videos that become popular. I also think that YouTube as a platform is not generally seen as a place for genuine entertainment but as a way to get a quick 1 minute laugh. And on the side of the actual content creators, they are looked down upon by almost every other medium because of how quick it is to make a quick buck. This idea is cemented by all the comments above about how "YouTube Stars" are rubbish.
Wait people seriously sit down on their couch and watch YouTube for HOURS at time? I can't possibly be that out of touch with what "the kids" are doing these days. I'm only 25!

You need to find yourself a girl, mate.

Also, don't feel too old! Because of the internet, cultural shifts diffuse almost instantly. Me, a 17 year old, and you, an 25 year old, probably have more generational differences than you and your parents. Fads come so much more quickly now that the idea of designating names to generations has become preposterous after the millennials.

I'll actually agree with you there.

No, the youngest of any time always consider themselves more unique, but they're not.

As someone who a similar in age to the OP and has watched quite a bit of youtube , I understand why it might seem appealing. However, I am downright against it. Youtube, as stated by lazyboy97o, doesnt produce anything, it allows others to produce. And stars such as Pewdiepie , Tyler Oakly, and The React series are apperiecated through a very narrow audience. Disney is meant for the family with a few designated adult only or childeren only things. I would really hate to see them turn down the alley of young adult trends. :grumpy:

Sorry. I scared people on this site with an opinion about a youtube themed area to replace DisneyQuest. The average forum member of this site is easily alarmed and confused by the ever growing culture of teens and young adults through the use of the internet and is therefore not a good idea to post about such opinions on these topics here. So for those of you who actually understand why it's even the 3rd most popular website on the internet, here are some wonderful tribute videos.

Everyone else, carry on. :)

It's amazing how nothing is ever your fault. It's always other people who just don't understand. You could just accept that you don't really understand how YouTube works.

They also have a very small view of the net and think streaming content and other things are "new".

Youtube is the undisputed king, for a variety of reasons, and with Google's investment, likely will be around for a while, but was hardly the first. Video sites with user created and uploaded content have been around since the mid to late 90s (gasp, the internet wasn't invented by Zuckerberg?!?...tee hee, Zuck didn't even invent "social media"...).

This culture isn't "new" by any means. It's just more visible, and much more misunderstood as a result.

I just don't understand why it warranted him editing the original post...now all context is lost for this thread for any future readers.

To me, that is...poor show on his part.

Fight your fight, but don't take your proverbial ball and run home with it.

You just categorically insulted everyone on this site. And you wonder why people don't take you seriously.

Kind of amusing how y'all are trying to be the ones to say "grow up" in a way that's not really helping, like, at all. Kind of wanting the argument to keep moving forward.

TBH -- I would have rather just deleted the thread as a whole. Internet fights are endless, stupid and pointless. Of course me being that "easily offended teenager" will easily get steamed off after countless of sarcastic insults, there should be a "delete thread" option so that I just don't have to deal with it.

Completely agree. It's interesting being told you don't understand something by people who were in grade school when it launched.

The only one taking this as some fight is you.
