Everyone I know who has been to SDL has said the castle looks incredible in person and that their concerns disappeared. That well may be, but it does not photograph well and looks very ugly and boxy.

Paris has the castle contest sewn up. It's so glorious, so whimsical, so enchanting.
Enchanted Storybook Castle (even its name is a clunker) is ugly in person.

They had to make it cartoony because there are so many real castles in Europe. They had to make it stand out.
That oft touted argument is akin to saying that the US parks need a toontown for main street because they've got so many real main streets.

MS and the US castles are very much already Disneyfied versions of the real thing. One does not need to cartoonify Disney for it to be distinguishable from the real world inspiration. This same misunderstanding plays out in toonifying World Showcase, and even the MK. It's Disneyfying the Disneyfied work.

The Paris castle is ugly. A little girl's toy castle blown up to enormous size. My niecelet has got one of those. It opens to store Playmobil figures.
The inside of DLP castle is great though, the dragon lair especially is one of the very best spaces Disney's built anywhere.

Agree to disagree. I do think the difference would be that main street is a snapshot of the past and not much like modern day main streets. And Worlds Showcase takes you to countries most people may never see.

A better comparison would be California Adventure being themed to California. Many of its big landmarks are versions of things people can travel a few hours to see. Fake redwoods aren't hugely exciting compared to real ones. So, CA added a bunch of IPs and became more disneyfied because theme park versions of real things aren't that exciting when the real things are right there.

Nature's Wonderland style balanced rock rising behind the construction walls at Disneyland. Looks like there's something to those rumors of the Railroad reroute being an homage to the Mine Train.

Hmm, that's the first time I've ever heard the DLP castle described as ugly. But, each to their own.

That's very interesting. Never thought they would reference that again. If only they would bring back the Rainbow Caverns themselves for the train to pass through. I'm sure most of us haven't seen it and would like to see it in its beauty.

Couldn't tell you what the modern rulesets are but I stopped around Tempest.
I stopped playing around the same years I think.
A lot of my cards suddenly became "invalid". Not easy to get top decks in my country during these years.
They had to be imported by guys who traveled to the US back and forth to my country.

The site-that-shall-not-be-named is reporting that Hong Kong Disneyland wants to tear down their castle. The reasoning (the site says)? HKDL (meaning the HK government or park officials, it doesn't say) is jealous of Shanghai's grand (and original) castle and they want a new one.

Ladies and gentlemen, the peeing match has begun.
Cant wait for the ultra duper Beast Cinderella 1Km tall tower with the world longest and fastest rollercoaster.

So if Hong Kong Disneyland is getting a new castle with a new design, can Tokyo Disney get something new so each castle park has a unique icon?

(Or make MK's even bigger and more elaborate?)

I know neither would ever happen. Just a fanboy wish.
I now imagine a Tv show on disney "CASTLE WARS.. THE WAR RAGES ON".. with every single disney park trying to outdo themselves in the castle department.

I cant wait to see a Versailles sized castle in Shangai :hilarious:

Shanghai Disney castle looks like a generic fancy mansion that had some castle pieces randomly glued to it with a giant, boring, mostly empty, city-park-wanna-be courtyard in front of it at the end of a group of tacky, mismatched group of buildings that have no coherent theme or color scheme.

Turn left at the castle to see Tomorrowland, and by "tomorrowland" I mean "a nice airport built to looks very modern in 2007"

Come see the half of Fantasyland that is built so far! Including a maze themes to Alice in Wonderland (no, not that one. the Tim Burton one you probably forgot existed)

Adventure Land and Treasure Cove are both pretty solid looking.
You just perfectly described the new term to call down Disney castles.. "McCastle"... the McMcansion appeal but on Disney park castles.

Based on the pictures, I'd say the new Lego Disney Castle looks better then the SDL castle...

(I don't recall the Lego set marked as 'Hard To Find', so I guess they might not have plans to eventually discontinue it. If it does get discontinued, this could be a $DIS investment that might actually pay off in the future - once the 'big' sets go OOP the resale value spikes).

Luckily, I already got mine :p:D.
