Alright, don't get me wrong, Maleficent is terrible. It's an awful movie. BUT at least it tries to do something very different to justify its existence. There was a creative vision there even if it wasn't a good one. Same with the live action Alice films.

I'd take that over just straight remakes like Cinderella and (based on what we've seen and heard) Beauty and the Beast. They aren't changing the stories in any significant way. The visuals are heavily inspired by the animated versions. Why do those movies exist? They feel like straight up cash grabs with no creative vision behind them.

I'm all for changing a story sometimes, if it works. Maleficent just doesn't do that. I like that she's the "mistress of all evil" for no apparent reason at all. Giving a backstory as to why she's mean ruined it for me (kind of like Ron Howard's How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which gave a backstory on how the Grinch came to hate Christmas, despite the original source material stating no one knew why he hated Christmas). What they did to the Three Good Fairies was wrong. I could go on.

Cinderella wasn't exactly like its animated version, but even if it was, I'd rather watch that over and over again before ever taking time to watch Maleficent again. Beauty and the Beast is great the way it is...why change it? And based on the trailer, I can already tell the live-action version will not be exactly like the animated one.

All of Disney's recent live-action films are cash grabs because they're all animation-to-live-action projects and guaranteed to make money. There's nothing truly original about any of these films, Maleficent included. I can't remember the last time Disney made a truly live-action film that not only received stellar ratings, but also made lots of money.

From OU, another piece of the "Donkey Kong" permit.

When the rumors first came out I knew they had to find a way to have you jump between tracks. I can't imagine what else they would've drawn this up for.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen. As a HUGE Maleficent fan, I left the theater fuming. There really is nothing positive I can say about it. So much potential for a stellar film wasted. Sigh.

"The greatest, most deliciously evil villain in the Disney canon....how could she possibly be a strong female character when she's a bad guy? How do we correct Old Racist Misogynist Jack-of-all-Isms Walt's problematic transgression? Let's revisit her story so that she embodies every patronizing feminist trope of the past twenty years. After all, it's that KING you have to look out for..."

Can't wait for "Cruella". :hungover:

Among the new attractions and offerings at Shanghai, one went a little under the radar. A Club 33 opened at the park with entrances from both Disneytown and Shanghai Disneyland. We knew it existed, but Disney had been a little hesitant about advertising and confirming any details about the club. It's almost as though it's elitist in country that isn't technically supposed to be about that sort of thing... It's the people's park no less!

Here are some photos:

This club opening comes at a time when Disney has increasingly been looking for ways to incorporate new expensive offerings and experiences at all their parks. This new club along with the recent expansion shows this concept is still very much alive and the Magic Kingdom or other parks make a decent option to add on.

It's interesting that anything normal people can't have breeds contempt, jealousy, and mystique.

Remember there was supposed to be a helipad in the middle of the lake so that high Party officials could fly in and be ferried from the Helipad to the park on high speed boats, Animal Farm as usual was right some animals are 'more equal than others'.

So it looks like the Club 33 is the replacement for the helipad/boats for Party Officials.

In communist societies equality is ONLY for the rank and file.

The Ron Howard Grinch was fun though and it kept to the spirit of the original, Malificent just no Angelina Jolie talent was absolutely wasted on that horror show of a movie.

A gentleman offers his arm to a lady, he does not take liberties, even with a hovering hand.

Address the princesses as "your highness" (or, if a queen, "your majesty"). After that you can say, "ma'am", but being a commoner, you'll eat your vowels and pronounce it as 'mum'.

It would be a kindness to ask a polite question regarding the royal's known exploits, e.g., "You highness, what was the most interesting thing about moving into a royal palace?" (applicable to Belle, Ariel, and Cinderella).

When you first enter, a royal will greet you with a photopass photographer at the ready. "C'est Belle! Magnifique!"

As they come to the table, you'll have to take your own pictures. So, have your cameras ready.

Well, this shouldn't be awkward at all for me... :cautious:

Never seen it, but we've had it on the DVR for months... Probably just gonna hit delete on this one

Don't delete it until you've seen it for yourself! Some of my favorite movies have bad reviews (like Casper and Hook!). Watch the movie, you might like it. My aunt LOVES Maleficent.

The Ron Howard Grinch was fun though and it kept to the spirit of the original, Malificent just no Angelina Jolie talent was absolutely wasted on that horror show of a movie.

I'm one of few amongst my family and friends who truly dislikes Howard's Grinch film. I found Jim Carey's performance and interpretation of the Grinch to be way too obnoxious and too ridiculous. I also hated the backstory and how materialistic the Whos are in the movie (another completely different aspect from the original source from Dr. Seuss). I MUCH prefer the 1966 animated special (50th anniversary!). :)

In saying all of this, the movie does have some funny moments (the mail room scene where the Grinch is switching up everyone's mail is my favorite), and I'd rather tune into it before Maleficent, definitely.
