A Terror-rific Spirited 13th (ToT fans have lots to fear)...

Disney fans will find it intolerable and proclaim the park a massive failure.

No one else will notice it.
Any true Disney fan traveling on I4 will be required to do their part to bring this place down. When driving by Volcano Bay a true fan will push hard on the horn, roll down the window and scream "I'm going to Disney World!"

That'll show Universal. ;)

Agreed. This looks like it will be an excellent Themed Water Park. If road noise becomes a significant distraction, then Uni made a critical design flaw. But I think most of us can agree, that seems highly unlikely at this point.

There's a smaller sound barrier along the highway already. The sound won't bother anyone.

This reminds me a lot of Disney Spring in the sense that you can tell where people's loyalty lies with how far they fall into the marketing buzz trap.

At the end of the day Springs looks like a world class Shopping Mall and Volcano Bay a world class Waterpark, but neither reinvented the wheel like they are claiming, they are just further perfecting it.

Universal's closet theme park with Water Park elements would have been the corridor of JP/Popeye/Dudley. Volcano Bay has nothing on that level. It does look like great fun though, I'll definitely check it out.

A world class Water Park is still more exciting than a mall though ;)

Of course! I knew someone would rush to make that point known, which wasn't the point at all!

I wasn't downplaying the awesome investment, I was just setting expectations that because something is world class doesn't mean it is suddenly something that it is not.

What this actually does, finally, is really truly turn the place into a full fledged resort. The bow on the end of what they have been vigilantly working towards the past so many years. To actively capture the average guest for a full week. Their next goal is working towards that mega resort to capture people for 2 weeks (consistently that is).

I know. I did agree with your original point too.

Agreed. I'm excited to see it actually because it's an amazing concept. But as much as the marketing is trying to push that it's so different and is the 3rd theme park -- it's a water park. (a very well themed one at that)

This place just looks so cool! That being said, calling it a theme park is marketing spin. Its a water park.

I'm actually really curious how this will turn out.
Are tickets going to cost the same as Universal or Islands of Adventure?
Are people going to respond to the marketting of it being a third park or is the general public just gonna look at it as a water park?
Is there a point if diminishing returns with water slide tecgnology? Like all this stuff looks amazing, but expensive. Is the general population gonna reach a point where they just say "a water slide is a water slide" and go some place cheaper assuming tickets here will cost more than tickets to Aquatica (which has similarly amazing rides and tropical theming (though no where near this level of course). You can get day passes to typhoon lagoon for 60 dollars. a year pass to aquatica for 60. Is volcano bay going to priced like a theme park? Is it going to be that much more spectacular to be worth paying nearly twice as much a day? I think it probably will be, but how many other people will be will just see this as an overpriced waterpark? Will it turn out to just be an overpriced water park with good marketing?

I'm very curious to see how this goes. And how close it is to the highway is worrisome. I'm still excited for it, but I do question wether this investment is really going to pay off.

They are Theme Parks of the water park variety.

Just like the Magic Kingdom is a theme park of the amusement park variety.

Holy Land is a theme park without rides of any kind.

Busch Gardens and Elitch Gardens started as theme parks based on botanic gardens and a carousel.
We all know that this conversation never took place until Universal started calling Volcano Bay a theme park. Now we have to rationalize it so they are correct.

In my opinion, a water park definition is different than the contemporary theme park definition, but agree to disagree.
