A Terror-rific Spirited 13th (ToT fans have lots to fear)...

They should both totally get yelled at for spilling the beans too early. There is no praise to be had here..the only benefit was to Nintendo's stock price...hopefully they are planning to get quite the haul from licensing and merchandising fees.

Separate but related topic...Nintendo is one of the last remaining independent owners of valuable IP. Gotta wonder who is going to snap them up. Even for a defiant Japanese company, getting value for your shares is important.

Not Just Nintendo...Comcast hit an all time high stock price during the announcement this morning. Three years for Nintendoland in Japan. On good source they want to have it open and running before the Olympics.

In the end...I suspect they will both be worth high praise...but both were announced too early and too little information has come out (if you look at similar time frames, obvi more information is out about Pandora now).
And both instances were because of the parties involved in the deals.

Rather impressive considering the situation with Tokyo Disneyland's expansions and how they were affected by the Olympics.
I like Nintendo and I'm looking forward to Avatar, but let's argue Disney vs Uni. Le double sigh.
I was merely saying why there are different attitudes concerning both projects.

The 3 Es are rumored to be Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Mine, and Yoshi's Island. The 2 Cs are rumored to be Mushroom Kingdom related flats.

Theme Park Wars 2020: The 10th Anniversary Edition is gonna be good.

The Star Wars Experienc VS Mushroom Kingdom

BTW, I think Pandora is going to jaw dropping, I love a lot of what they did at Disney Springs (The Boathouse, Morimoto's, and Homecoming all get two thumbs up from me.), and I saw Moana today and I absolutely loved it.

Totally agree. We know that Uni knows better, they watched the Avatar thing happen and kept their lips shut on what they were doing during the same time. Nintendo needs this more than anything...they are trying to build on their recent PR successes to keep their stock price up and their shareholders happy. Although the Classic NES may become more of a PR drag than success after how Nintendo handled supply levels.

Same can be said about Pandora...Cameron wanted Fox to pay for those sequels...getting Disney to pay for Theme Park licensing was a big deal toward making the world of Avatar more than just a 1 movie IP.

That's the key difference Universal Studios Japan is 3 hour bullet train ride away from Tokyo in Osaka. They don't have the same construction constraints as TDL. The Olympics get first priority for all construction in Tokyo whereas Osaka doesn't have to compete for the same resources. The development for those lands should have started back when Tokyo put in the bid for the olympics to start expanding to make sure they weren't shortchanged.

TDL has the upperhand however with being in the location of the Olympics more so than USJ and should see a larger international jump but USJ with a larger local jump in attendance.

Oh yeah. Nintendo is definitely going all out to build a better and different image for themselves. The Switch, Universal, Mobile, and talk of movies, etc. The NES Classic situation though is just stupid. How do you send out so little stock? :banghead:

Luckily I'm not one of the people that desperately wants it.

I wonder if there is anything in the ownership agreements that would prevent the Government from selling their shares in Hongkong International Theme Parks to someone besides Disney.

The terms said that the Government couldn't sell for the first year of operation, but after that it's fair game. They have the right to completely divest themselves.

Disney on the other hand could lower investment, but certain minimums must be met.

Is it true that one of the rides won't be screen based? Universal could use the physical rides. Especially when the next two rides (Fallon and FatF) are going to be screen based too.

Pandora will be beautiful, I just hope the attractions stand up to the land.

Per OU, Universal is going away from screens due to guest satisfaction surveys. And in the press release used these exact phrase which makes me think no screens period.
All of the adventure, fun and whimsy you experience through a screen will now be all around you – in breathtakingly authentic ways.

I would like that! However, haven't guest surveys been saying this for years? Even so, yet they still made Fallon and FatF.

Please stop with the screens. They make me sick. Something a Disney ride has never done to me, except maybe the Teacups in the wrong hands (my nephew can be mean;)). I have ridden Mission Space, the original Star Tours and yes - Body Wars and I never felt sick.

In my opinion but when 5% of guests complain about screen fatigue it doesn't have the same amount of push in comparison to 30%-40% complaining. The positive is they are listening to guest feedback rather than altering it.

I have heard that Yoshi's and DK are all practical, and supposedly, Yoshi's is an acid trip on steroids. The DK mine coaster has been in the works for years. It is the reason the JP amber mine project disappeared. Mario Kart is going to be a mostly practical mega E. I have conflicting info on if it will use augmented reality tech. I'm leaning towards yes. And Peach's Castle will be the land's "weenie". Yoshi's was not originally supposed to come to Orlando, but I believe that for several reason it will be included, which is bad news for E.T.

Disclaimer: This is all rumor so...we will see.

Yeah, that's just you. Seuss Landing was not cheap and it is not plastic. They developed a brand new building technique where each building facade is entirely hand carved styrofoam covered in stucco covered Kevlar.
I have to chime in (late) because stucco covered, carbon fiber reinforced EPS is what I do, but this technique for creating false facades has been around for much longer than seuss landings opening in the late 90s- in fact, Disney themselves used this same method earlier that decade in creating the intricately detailed 'stone' facade of ToT. Also, like pretty much every 'stone' anything anywhere from your shopping mall exterior to the support columns on your front porch. Universal is great at lots of things, don't get me wrong, but there's no need to stretch their achievements.

Wow! Thanks for all the detail @Disneyhead'71!
I had a mixed experience at Universal, but your info really gets me excited. Universal is killing it as far as creativity and innovation. If they apply that to practical rides instead of screen-based rides, those rides will be awesome!

I am hoping for the best!
