A Spirited Perfect Ten

That is true for most luxury items, but, does not apply to a resort like WDW or any Disney park. They offer an experience not 14 carat gold fixtures. They offer an experience that is not available all over. It is a limited supply and a massive demand. That's what determines the price in a capitalistic system. Yet, everyone seems to not want a socialistic state, but, are always upset about capitalism. Gotta make up our minds here folks.

All I can say is you don't seem to understand what people with net worth in the 7-9 figure range EXPECT, In vegas there is a reason each of the major hotels have a limo fleet as do most major hotels in major cities. It's part of the baseline expected service the car meets the customer's jet at the ramp. Disney ONCE had something similiar but no longer I'm sure they can contract it out.

...aliens..

thats implying they have money left to buy said merch.

I remember parentsof4 also mentioning the declining of the merch sales.. and hence why the infamous magicband technique was born.

Here's the problem with merch, There is very little to BUY if you have been there more than once and very little on the high end like art and jewelry. Because TWDC has been focusing on the COST there is nothing 'new' to buy. Example we LIKE pins mock me if you will. Up to a couple years ago there were always LOTS of NEW designs to buy. Now it's we've already GOT everything on display and the only new stuff was AP and DVC pins. Once again shows Disney is going for the 'one and done' market.

Disney is becoming an example of accountants knowing the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Then can you tell me why I'm continually spending so much on pins! I already have almost 10,000 (seriously) and I'm still ending up spending a fortune on them! The LE's do sell out faster than they used to. So if you aren't there on release day (or have a proxy, I send my Dad) you may not get one. They did completely redo their open edition selection in 2014.

Now, I agree with you on the rest of the state of merchandise. I visited a lot over the last 18 months because of my Mom, other than the pins, I got everything I wanted after the first 2 trips. My Dad and I went to DL for the first time in years, and all their merchandise was the same as WDW's. We bought a couple 60th branded things, but that was it....other than pins.

Well, now we know where the funding for DHS re-do/expansion came from.

Well, not quite all of it. It did take 15 years to acquire that many, and I had several starting from my first Disney pin in 1989. But...

My Mom worked merchandise for Disney for 15 years and we have another friend who works gets bumped up and down from merchandise management at DHS depending on current staffing levels. She said that retail sales per square foot, the pin rack is one of the highest grossing places....and they can't get people to keep it stocked, organized and looking attractive for shoppers. The stock crew HATES the pin rack ("all those different items, it's too much work, and I want to talk with my friends!") and so no one does it. So what does that tell you about management's ability to motivate their staff and get anyone to recognize where the money comes from and a whole host of issues. WDW is not a well oiled machine, and they are losing easy dollars because of it.

I'm just teasing you.. I have no issue whatsoever with how you choose to spend your money. I also enjoy the pins, as I think they're the most unique and interesting merchandising that WDW puts out.

I got that :), but I had thought of that pin related how WDW "mistreats" pins thing. On one hand they know pin sales are strong, but they don't do what any other retailer would do, and make sure their best sellers are well-stocked and looking nice, and then maybe they could use the profits to build stuff ;) .

I'm really not there often enough to notice. I go a minimum of 7 months between trips normally and every time I go it seems like an entirely new line-up of pins plus a few main-stays.

Happy Halloween Month! Those who attended last year's Villains Unleashed - which was technically NOT a Halloween party - probably thought "Club Evil" at the Brown Derby was a one-off event.

Not so, according to this posting which is being promoted at the Disney Meetings LinkedIn page: https://www.disneymeetings.com/blog.../?CMP=SOC-MEETFY16Q1SOC-DM-Blog-10-07-15-0001
More like the name was adopted from the meeting concept. That show with the reimagined look for the villains has been available for years. I suspect many elements of that will find its way into the new show at DHS though

They send a bus now, so it hasn't stopped. It's the biggest limo that most people have ever seen. Seats around 60. Party time. Homeland Security probably doesn't allow ramp side pickups anymore.

I assure you the limo fleets still meet the private jet's at the GA terminal, it just means the driver has to have a ramp pass (and pass the background check from DHS). What you are talking about is several steps down on the service list.

WDW has a problem in that it stoops for pennies while dollars fly overhead and it shows in their GPM numbers and the clearly incompetent management as exemplified by your example is far too common at WDW.

more upcharge events apart from paying tickets? or this is the rumored hilarious joke about a upcharge event inside an upcharge event?
