A Spirited 15 Rounds ...

Those of us who enjoyed the Prequels have been facing articles telling us we are wrong for over a decade. I could sink my teeth into the faults I see in TFA and TLJ but i don't want to crap on the next generations childhood the way mine was by the previous generation.
How noble

If you don’t like something you have every right to speak out. If people who enjoyed that something get offended it’s their problem, not yours.

The bigger point is that bad movies shouldn't be part of one's childhood.
Star Wars movies don't get a pass from criticism just because the first two were good and the rest made a lot of money.

I certainly wouldn't hold back my venom from the godawful transformers movies because children saw them- in fact the opposite is true.

Did you ever read EU stuff? I enjoyed the first 3 Zahn books, but beyond that, not much.

The movies are starting to feel like mediocre EU stuff, and thats not good.

I did read a lot of EU stuff and was devestated the day that they were declared non-canon. Sure there was some crap but there was a lot of good in there too. A lot of my passion for Star Wars has waned somewhat as a result.

I know what you mean. That did feel a little like having the rug pulled out from under you. However, I do like that they are re-canonizing some of it and I expect this to continue. I guess this is their way of weeding out the garbage while simultaneously making it easier to maintain continuity going forward.

I think they should have been more selective rather than throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Just caught this show called Disney Fairytale Weddings: Holiday Edition (or something like this)... anyone know if this is all fake and staged? It seems so unrealistic... like a big ad for Disney weddings.

You certainly let a corporation's press release have a lot of power over your emotions and past experience. It's not like the books self-destructed.

In any case, the EU was never "canon" to begin with. They were one of the various sub-levels (Star Wars had a ridiculous amount of them). It always was the position of Lucasfilm that the only true main SW canon was the films and then TV shows, that's why the "EU" was invented to begin with.

I think you guys are selling TLJ short. It’s the best SW film since Empire and is a role model for the kinds of things future films should do, namely strong character and thematic work and expanding the galaxy.
I left the movie entertained, but thinking there were a lot of problems with the movie. There were threads sewn that went unsatisfied. The crux of the movie was setting the audience up for disappointment.
It starts from the first scene with Rey and Luke. We anticipated Luke's reaction to receiving his lightsaber back for two years and he tosses it aside. We have an emotional setup introducing Rose after we see Colleen from Iron Fist die. Then there's an hour of the Rose/Finn relationship that was irrelevant to the plot of the movie. If Finn sacrificed himself there would have at least been a payoff there (not that I wanted Finn to die). You have red herrings galore on who Rey's parents are, and then it's revealed that they're nobody (assuming we believe that's true). If Kylo was lying, then you wasted a substantial portion of the movie towards misdirection. You have the build up of Snoke and Kylo completing his training (for the second time if I'm not mistaken), and then you kill off the puppet master halfway through the movie (again, assuming he's really dead).

Lastly, they had an out for killing off Leia. It will be interesting to see what alternative they come up with now for Episode 9.
There's components here where it could be the opposite of the 2nd and 3rd Pirates movies. After the 2nd Pirates movie, I left the theater excited by what #3 would bring, and then #3 ended up ruining #2 for a lot of people. I suspect some of what we saw in Episode 8 may be better framed in Episode 9. But if that's the case, it might make more of Episode 8 irrelevant.

Having said all that, I'm taking @WDW1974's sarcastic advice and seeing it again this week.

People liked the characters, that's why people are passionate about EU. But whether you read them or not no one wanted to see their childhood heroes killed off 1-2-3

These movies are about to get really bad really quick.

Did you read mostly the continuing adventures or ever delve into the tales of the old republic? Couldn't ever get into that
