A Call to Arms: Fans Will Embrace the Walt Disney World Resort's 40th Anniversary

The 35th definitely was not of the same importance as the 40th. As far as I know, the milestone dates are 20th, 25th, 40th, 50th. The 20th probably isn't as important as the others.

You are going to buy your wife a lot of flowers! :D

I would say the major milestones in a relationship are 1 (eat the leftover cake), 10 (that cost me some jewelry), 25 (silver) and 50 (gold), but I try to be on the cheap side since we have the annual re-occurrence of New Year's, Valentine's, Easter, Mother's Day, first date, Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthday. :lookaroun

I remember Disney did a 15th anniversary logo for the Magic Kingdom and it was kinda :snore:

What's so special about 40? . . . other than it not being 35?

Don't get me wrong - I am all in favor of any party or celebration. Just don't bring back the castle cake!

I assumed that WDW *would* be having a big celebration for their 40th. They seem to want to celebrate everything else, why not their own anniversary? They try to do a new theme every year, celebrating WDW's 40th is really a no-brainer!

Suggestion to WDW: anyone who is 40 years old in 2011 should get in free for the year!

This call to arms is disappointing. No firearms whatsoever...

*sadly marches away armed to the teeth with NERF weaponry*
:lol::sohappy:

I kinda agree here. 40th is not really a big thing, but seeing WDW hasn't had a Anniversary in a while...

Hmm...think I can sneak my - oops...I mean my son's - Vulcan in? Thing holds 25 Nerf darts and unloads then three a second until it's empty...

We do have nerf Missile launchers on the top of our cubes at work (I'm a geek - I work in a programmer shop with 9 other programmer types...). Does that count for anything?

I was at DL for the 40th and it was a nice presentation. I have large commemorative tickets for the park and the indiana jones ride framed in the house. I think if it can be done for them it should be done for us as well with just as much effort.

Im suprised after 3+ months of talking about this i havent seen a 40th logo made up yet. Im so disappointed:lol: you're a slacker mcfly!

Sooo....An interesting thought..

Seeing that MK and DHS WILL be getting their improvements, but not in conjunction, and NOT for 2011, sadly....

Does this mean that a 40th will be overlooked? After all, what can they open it with now? Unless they do only new parades or new firework shows, I don't think that they could do anything for a 40th, seeing that FL is going to be done two years following.

While I'm thrilled that MK (and DHS!) is getting vast and awesome new FL, the History lover in me is a bit sad that it won't be in time for a 40th.

A 40th, that in concept, was going to be Resort Wide, have new draws for each park, and be fantastic.

Not complaining, by any means...Just wondering what could have been.

I really think Lasseter wanted something, but didn't get the FL plans pushed through in time.

Shame.

Fantasyland was perfect for the 40th.

Something tells me they will gloss over it ala EPCOT 25 and save all the PR, Marketing, and insanity for the FL Opening.:D

(Maybe I will go to that instead!)

Can't wait because our next trip is scheduled for March 2011, and me and WDW will be celebrating our 40th birthdays together (well mine is actually in January). :p

To top it off, my wife and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary that month too. So we will have ALOT to celebrate that trip!!!:sohappy:

It may not be a major anniversary celebration, but something very likely will happen.

While things may not yet be announced, there is plenty to look forward to with this coming anniversary. Keep yours eyes open for some news in the not-too-distant future...

They could always market it based on 'exciting new improvements we have in the works' and open a Blue Sky Cellar that gets people excited for a later trip (the perfect WDW marketing campaign...one that gets people on repeat trips). I'm not sure how well that would work in practice, but if done right, it might work.

I really think Lasseter wanted something, but didn't get the FL plans pushed through in time.

You know, the more I think about this, the more I wonder if something will be open by then. They will have, essentially, 1.75 years from the date of construction commencing to get something open for the 40th. Depending on how they begin construction, it seems something could be open.

I really think this will open in phases (and not just Phase I: Fantasyland minus Pixie Hollow, Phase II: Pixie Hollow), so it would seem something would be open by the end of 2011. Now, I'm not sure that could be Ariel's dark ride, but they could at least have something.

Possible. The only date they gave was 2012.
