OMG the 80's. lol. I was just a kid but I remember the big glasses, teased perms, and puff painted shirts! Not to mention tall socks. Funny to think, when our kids get older, our kids will be posting the pics we are taking NOW and their flashback pics.

What is going on with these cars? Is it a little GM display??

I went to WDW in 1987 and if my memory serves, you could win something each time you went through the turnstiles (from something as small as a hat to a car). I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will correct me  I remember I won a visor that lit up.

Great photos

These are incredible! Two favorites - 20,000 leagues and the last one of the kids with their backs turned walking down main st. This really shows how pure photography used to be before all the post-processing computer stuff. Thanks so much for posting these, I too was born in '87 fun to see what it was like!

Was that the promotion that they gave away prizes ever 15 seconds for the 15th anniversary? Maybe that was DL's 15th, but I think it was WDW....

It's like, totally the 80's! :D

Thank you so much for sharing these with us! Wonderful shots and really bring back memories for me. My family was living in Orlando at the time so I'm pretty sure we went in '87.

Disneyland's 15th anniversary was in 1970... long before they ever did the car giveaway promotions.

However the concept did start at DL and was first used for DL's 30th anniversary in 1985. It was one of the first big promotions that Eisner and Wells brought to the company. Basically the way it worked was that every 30th guest through the turnstiles would win something, but the prizes were all big deals and the biggest prize was a car. It drove attendance that year to record levels so the following year, they continued the promotion. The only enhancement was that every guest through the turnstiles won something, and the biggest prize was still a car. I think the smallest prizes were like free popcorn and stuff. One thing that really stands out was that they built this "machine" at the entrance that they called the "Gift Giver Extraordinaire"!

It was WDWs. Every guest through the turnstyles at either park during open hours got a printed ticket saying if you had won or not. Every 15 seconds one prize would be given at random. Prizes ranged from food to vouchers to a Chevrolet Cavalier or S-10 pickup to a Bahamas Cruise with Premier to $500 savings bonds.

Really enjoyed the flashback. What strikes me from the older photos of trips is how much the trees have grown over time, the lack of SUV strollers and electric carts, and the overall fitness level of the people in the photos. Thank you for sharing your memories.

I don't know why this shots not being displayed so I uploaded it again... I heard that one of the subs from 20,000 leagues is visible if you go snorkling at Disney's Castaway Cay. I want to own a piece of the ship! Will Disney somehow incorporate one of the subs into the new Ariel ride ?

Great pics! What type of scanner did you use? Some of those pictures came out like they were taken yesterday!
